>>5993444Eh, these organizations are trying to compete with Comic Con.
They see how much Comic Con is making so they try and put in as much money to grow their own convention.
San Diego Comic Con charges as much as they do because it's fuckbig. They involve the city, shut down a bunch of streets, take over 4 other hotels, a couple of theaters, the library, and over a thousand cops, security guards, staff, and other workers. That's ontop of their volunteers too.
A crazy amount of money goes into that, just so that a couple hundred companies can just advertise their movies/games/toys/shows/plays/books/whores to over half a million people (not just the convention attendees).
The money paid by attendees, promoters, and vendors is well worth the charge, even if a lot of people baulk at the extra effort involved in getting in.
The other conventions don't even put in a 10th of that effort, yet are charging almost as much for their tables/booths and entry passes. Is it worth it? Yes, otherwise they wouldn't get people paying up and growing numbers.
Personally, i like smaller conventions more, because you actually see more variety of stuff, especially with toys. Though, you really don't get as many deals as the bigger ones.
The entry fee always pays for itself, at least, in the conventions i go to.
I regret not spending more cash at Stan Lee's Comic Convention, but i have so little time to prep up lists to know what comics I'm missing and how much i should spend for a figure.
