What am I hoping for? Well, my most wanted were a good Meg, Jazz and Devastator. MP Meg looks just about perfect and MakeToys is working an incredible Jazz so now Devastator is my most wanted one. Him and maybe Grimlock seeing how FansToys' suck.

I don't wanna scare you or anything but if we don't get them pretty soon, we'll probably never get them.

The G1 MP market is basically aiming at men in their 30's because it's the right age to
a.) be a huge nostalgiafag for 80's stuff
b.) have a nice amount of disposable income
By the the time these men hit 40 or so, most of them will have stopped collecting for various reasons and the one who will be in their 30's at that time will probably not care much about designs from a cartoon they never watched. I would bet a blowjob that if the MP line still exist in 10 years, it won't feature G1 stuff anymore.

Top kek. G1 is their milk cow, they are the most interested in not finishing it any time soon and would just slow down the release of the best characters even more. Anyone who thinks that the BW Masterpieces are the main reason the G1 MP line pace is going to be as slow as molasses is just a complete retard. There are no "spots to be taken".

Just be glad thay they're actually releasing a ton of characters under the MP label. Compared to the start of the line the pace is great right now.

G1 is the only part of the G1 franchise that has any longevity. Kids know of G1 because the Transformers media they watch is derived from G1. Meanwhile they know nothing about Beast Wars or armada. A bunch of TF collectors are actually younger than 30 and buy Combiner wars and Titans Return because they're way better than lines based off current media.

IDW stuff is still derived from G1 by and large. The designers and artists behind it are primarily G1 fans, especially older ones. Alex Milne looks exactly like the fan conception of a fanboy in his 30s/

This sounds like your usual 20 year old /toy/ poster that can't fathom life after 30. Collectors in their 30's won't see 40 candles on their birthday cake and suddenly drop toy collecting; a lot of people do't even see those ages as a milestone or important event.

Japan has an aging population, anyway, if the way Mazinger still gets toys(and even bigger, pricier toys at that), its a good indicator G1 will still get attention in 10 years. Mazinger is from the 70's.

I'm 37, started collecting at 18 or 19, met dozens of guys my age (and two girls) that were into toy collecting through local boards and, me excepted, only one of them is still collecting today. Like or not but yes, most people do stop collecting just like most they stop playing video games or most stop watching cartoons at some point.

Fine, here's an obscure robot from a tv series 11 years older than the G1 cartoon that got a $200 toy in the last year. Japan has yet to drop 70's nostalgia, let alone 80's nostalgia.

Culturally, Star Wars is probably closer to Mazinger than Transformers in the US.

That said, Trasnformers has a benefit that most other franchises lack. It constantly reinvents itself and brings in new fans who often turn around and become fans of the previous incarnations as well.

Don't forget the absolute giant that is the Chinese market, they want either G1 or movie stuff. They got G1 through the late 90's, so this bullshit excuse of "My anecdotal evidence about me and 12 other American friends" won't fly, because a lot of those Chinese G1 collectors are in their 20s.

Hello? Are you a real human being on this planet in this galaxy as a part of this timeline right now?

The whole Generations-Titans Return toyline has been majority G1 by a large margin. That's one of the complaints some people levy against it.

Hasbro officials have parroting the strategy of converting young fans into collectors since around 2012.

How effective this strategy is up to debate, but the fact that Hasbro is pushing it is not.

G1 went through changes all the time. People complain about characters getting turned into headmasters, but late in g1 Jazz turned into a giant white man.
