Making repaints does. Exclusivity just raises hype and ensures sales based on rarity.

It's good business, especially when the only thing you can afford to put out really is repainted versions of the thing you already sunk your money into.

If they had made the re-paints publicly available, they would have made more sales than they did catering to a much smaller market. It's REALLY that simple.
