>>6033944As I saw another anon put it, it's gamefreak throwing a bunch of different stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. They very clearly are trying to break away from the traditional game that has grown a bit stale, but while some stuff works well, some of it was a bad idea.
It is more character and story heavy, the idea to have captain and Kahuna challenges that culminate in a battle was good, and I like a lot of the new mon.
But at the same time the beginning of the game is a total chore. The intro/tutorial part of the game take over an hour to get through basically and consists mainly of running a few steps, cut scene, run a bit more, cut scene, etc. It also feels a bit too easy, nearly everyone is giving you handouts or healing your team ever two fights and it feels like the routes are much shorter with only like 2-3 trainers on them.
So far its not my favorite pokemon game, but I wouldn't call it the worst either. It just feels different.
