Justified by their child's escapism causing a breakdown of the child's life. And that could be a slew of things from buying toys, to playing mmos all day to just being a lazy fuck and spending more time on a computer than the world with no sense of trying to become self sufficient.

You could be employed and even helping with the bills or your own place but they cast judgement because they are embarrassed for social constructs they made in their head or that others (usually their parents) put their and again this poison could go any direction and could just be as petty as disgusted by using a smart phone or social media in passing.
I would argue the later case is rarer then the former sense I wager most have witness or even had a friend that summarizes the former example. I have never experienced either but I made a life for myself got married etc, so it was always just a hobby and nothing more to them.
Bluntly if this isn't bait then you sound like you were either raised by or will become yourself that vain judgmental parent ready to shit on whatever another likes that helps you sooth your own insecurities and make things worse for everyone around you.
