Anybody been to TOKYO?

so i'm gonna go to japan in a couple of days, a 3-day stay in Shinjuku, Tokyo. so, any good shops around town that you guys know? apparently there are no FAQs here when it comes to hauling loot in the holy land.

basically i'm looking for /m/ stuff. gunpla, transformers, kamen rider, gokins, that kinda shit.

First off, Shinjuku's not the best for what your looking for. Toy Sapiens is in Shibuya, and even that's more aimed at Western collectors, with stuff like Hot Toys and and Pop figures.

Akihabara has variety, but be prepared to pay out the ass there, same goes for Nakano Broadway, all the specialty shops in there are run by Mandarake.

If you really want to score some sweet deals, get on Google Maps and search for Hobby Off and House Off, they're two of the stores in the Book Off chain of used goods stores, and those stores will have plenty of used figures and toys available, mostly inbox still, most at 75-80% off the original price because they're trying to move inventory.

These will not be in Shinjuku proper, but if you're willing to be adventurous and take a 20-30 minute train ride out of central Tokyo, toy can find amazing deals.

yeah so i chose to be in shinjuku because i'm crashing at a friend's place, and i know that shinjuku ain't that rich with hobby stores, except maybe Toy Sapiens, and Hobby Land or Yellow Submarine.

i don't really mind spending a bit more, but how pricey are things at mandarake / amiami / other "big" hobby stores? can you give an example?

also pic related is my main wishlist right now. .

When you're in Tokyo, it doesn't really matter which district you're in because everywhere else is a 10-15 min train ride or subway ride from the district you want to be in, so even if you're staying in Shinjuku, Akihabara isn't hard to get to by any means.

How "pricey" anything is in stores at Akihabra is relative. Brand new figures will cost their usual retail price, maybe a bit more if it's a fig or character in high-demand. Figures that are a little older and used (as in six months to a year / two years) are discounted a lot, with stores buying back used figures from collectors and reselling them at a huge discount off their original MSRP.

The real expensive stuff is the "vintage" toys behind the glass cases at places like Mandarake, and those all depend on the rarity, popularity of the series, vintage, etc. Old tin or 70's super robot toys can sometimes be worth thousands of dollars depending on the piece and condition.
