That was back when they were just making basically statues. Back when they were making figures for thousands cheaper than they do now because they weren't engineering articulation and plastic prices weren't as high as they were today.
For like a decade now they've been sticking with less obscure characters and properties because to no one's surprise Alien and Predators rake in more money than the Tallman from Phantasm.
I understand why they make the their choices, gotta make money, but regardless I get bummed out thinking about how we'll never see NECA reboot their Cult Classics line with their modern day articulation. I also understand that's supposed to be part of the appeal for their retro cloth line, because with that line they can afford to put out more risky characters, but I personally them due to the baggy clothes, funky proportions, and they're out of scale with other NECA horror figures.
