App games generate more sales because all of them are freemium bullshit that makes those with big pockets dish out INSANE amounts of money for nothing. You had people paying like 500$ in the FIST WEEK of Earth Wars to get that one character they wanted with good stats.
That person alone spent more money that goes straight to Hasbro pockets with ZERO effort from Hasbro, than they will spend on all of their toys for that year.
That's what they want. The people in charge literally want instant gratification, they want to put out a product, make bajillion of money INSTANTLY, then shut it down, make a new product with the same result and repeat.
That's why they don't actually put money to make good games anymore, or good cartoons, or fuck good movies or good toys. Because they don't understand that a healthy franchise will bring in a LOT more cash in the long run (look at Marvel the biggest phenomenon on Earth right now) and instead of trying to build Transformers as a good franchise rather than a franchise of shitty movies only dudebros like,they only focus on short term gains via freemium bullshit apps.
