Maybe it's autistic of me or something but I always, going back to when I was a kid, just wanted actual Lego brand Pokemon Lego with minifig trainers and tiny mostly one-stud pokemans (with the bigger ones being like lego animals). The emphasis of the line would be on building the games' cities, not actually building the Pokemon.

I was even okay when pokemon were just printed bricks.

Most Pokemon are organic so it's hard to translate into block forms unless you want some weird pre Nintendo 64 looking crap.

Clearly Mega wasn't going to pay to make the molds for all those mons. I'd rather have had like 10 molded mons, scaled like little lego animals.

Those sets were kind of on the right track as far as building Pokemon cities (man, a legit typical Lego-designed Pokemon Center or Pokemart set would be great) but unfortunately the execution was basically Duplo-tier.

well it is for a younger audience in mind, but they did do trainer minifigures and stuff at least.
Even Team Rocket and a few Sinnoh Gym Leaders got to be minifigs.
