Armada Megs was a combination of all megs before him (Tank mode like G2, hip canon like G1, huge chunks of purple like Beast Wars)
He got rebuilt into this form for Energon, which made it the default "galvatron" version (cause that's what you name Megatron when he gets rebuilt) so they went with that design, but they also knew they were going to actually rename him as galvatron eventually, so the first colorscheme wasn't purple.
Honestly, Energon Megs' colorscheme is the WIERDEST megatron colors we ever got.

The fact that he can also use his tank as an arm canon is also spiffy.
