Armor had a purpose. Each piece was designed to protect the wearer in a specific way for specific jobs.
You know why knights typically have their entire legs covered in plate & wear those skirt plates? It's because their legs are going to be about chest high to their enemies, because they're sitting on horses. It's why they armor their feet as well.
A soldier on the field? Since most of them have poles arms as their main weapon & they're standing together in groups, they're not going to armor their lower half all that well. Why? because if you're going to aim for their lower body, WTF ARE YOU DOING? You just left yourself wide open for an attack to your shoulders, neck, & head. If your main opponent is too busy blocking that attack because you really reached that far, his neighboring buddies will undoubtedly see it & take advantage of that GIVE UP ON LIFE attack.
So the vast majority of foot soldiers didn't care much about lower body plate armor, and those that didcovered important areas from the random shit that goes on, like the groin and knees.
>because knights in battle had an easier time. they carried less weightLOL, no. Sorry, but again, a soldier carries his ruck to his camp/vehicle, not into battle. ~20lbs of armor, ammo, & weapons is all they take. SOME soldiers have their machine gun & ammo to go with it, but weight is spread out and only a few members are gunners.
Again, the knight you believe in is wearing 50-100lbs of armor & weapons INTO BATTLE. Again, research shows how fast they would tire out. Again, this is why heavy plate armor was used by cavalry/on horse.
>doesnt this support the statement about higher ranked higher paid mercs wearing full plate because they could afford itNo, because he's not going to buy unnecessary stuff, instead buy qualitier armor that's lighter. Of course, some may just join the cavalry for the higher pay & get the armor you think was used on foot.
