You have the Bayfags that only ever care about Bay and nothing but the Bay. They pop in when the movie is out, be obnoxious shitheads and then leave until the next movie. I don't consider them as the main fandom at this point.
The "main fandom" is at this point hyper split between the toy and fiction fandom, which isn't something that should happen when the fiction was supposed to sell the toy but I guess the franchise became too big that, that was inevitable.
There was a HUGE influx of fans thanks to TFP. Larger than usual. All those fans have since jumped ship IDW and IDW became their #1 thing. Problem is the existing fandom has long since given up all hopes on a G1 cartoon, the majority don't consider IDW G1 and will autistically screech at the mere mention of IDW. Because they are Hasbro's main market for "collectors" toy they then have to make toys as G1 as possible.
That doesn't sit well with IDW fans who would be buying ALL the toy if they actually looked like the comic or if Hasbro made any comic only toys (hell look at how many people are trying to get Nautica and how hard that 3rd party Tarn sold out).
So you have toy only fans and comic/fiction only fans that don't see eye to eye. That's not a healthy fandom for a franchise that's supposed to be about the unity of fiction and toys.
