It's only sometimes 'lunchbox specials'. Some of the FT people did this for a side profit, like DaCaToys, but there are two things you need to know about FT:
1. They are intent on being the dominant market force and do not tolerate ANY competition.
2. They are extremely petty.
So competition from DX9 was already something they were pissed at. But then DX9 'stole' one of their designers, and it's been personal ever since. It's why so much of their stuff in particular has been KOed in general lately, and the whole reason why Gabriel exists: As one giant 'FUCK. YOU.' to Fans Toys. Also why Open Play exists, and why their Springer is the cheapest on the market.
