There was one guy on /toy/ a couple weeks back who loved all things PotC and I think even he hated that set. So yeah, it's not great.

A more substantial lower hull would make me like it a lot more. as the deck and everything above the cannons looks well designed.

but seriously, this horse is amazing. Nevermind the rest of the set is pretty meh. Great poses, personality. I just want the horse in a 10$ set so I can make a robo cavalry unit.

Lance vs Lightning.
Gargoyle minifigure is alright, but the bigger monster is meh.

The set does have oodles of model joints though, which is fantastic.

I just salvaged a bunch of brick related from the preschool I work at, and they are covered in paint stains and marker lines. Hand washing with dish soap has done nothing, do I need to Brasso?

You can try soaking them in simple green then scrubbing them again. Ideally a preschool is using washable paint and markers.

They added easy buy literally the other day. As long as you have parts on the wanted list, you can buy what you need with like 3 clicks.

i mean i buy stuff from bricklink but usually its specific stuff.

to have these animals i will probably need
1) to buy white neck from swan from one store
2) the other store will have wings but not other parts
and etc.

and those neck and wings will be too small to complete anorder so i will have to add some other things i possibly dont need to complete my order and stuff like that.

I would buy them if they were sold as completed animal.

Somebody made a screencap of my post regarding how to use Simple Green to clean Legos a couple threads ago.

Brasso will remove the printing, but won't do anything special for cleaning paint or gunk off of them. You'll want to use the Simple Green soaking method.

Oven cleaner works well to strip oil paint off of metal miniatures, but it might fuck up the printing or even the ABS plastic itself.

Soaking your miniatures in Simple Green will indeed remove the oil paint, but it doesn't seem to hurt Lego printing.

I would not recommend using oven cleaner to clean your Lego pieces unless you had done it before and knew exactly what you were doing.

Yeah, took it out every couple of days and scrubbed it with a fingernail brush. The paint came off the tops and sides of the studs right away, but a fine ring stayed around the bases of the studs for a long time.

The spray paint was about 30 years old, which might make a difference.

Each came with an extra hand, transparent blaster and black CMF base.

I'm not too sure about the quality. The plastic is harder than ABS and the parts fit together so tightly I was worried about breaking something getting the hands into the arms. No problems so far, guess I'll see if they crumble in a month or something.

Man i STILL need to finish up an old BL order wich had some faulty parts but have to work off deadlines for university.

County Fair season, and some County fairs have various contests for quilting, painting, etc. For kids, they have LEGO contests, and the winners get ribbons and $20 bucks. All entries are brought in advance and stay on public display for a week.

BUT- something I observed today. Dumbass county fair just leaves the LEGO out in the open, on top of 3 foot high cabinet, with no glass on top. They string a useless plastic chain around the cabinet, but the LEGO displays are still sitting out in the open, easily within the reach of children.

And, sure enough, some kids couldn't resist and plucked the Harry Potter LEGO figs right off the base. Luckily the parent had them put it back, but I'm 100% that there's some parents that don't care and let their little monsters take anything that's not nailed down. Dumbass fair doesn't understand- some LEGO figures are worth a lot of money and have to be bought on ebay. Nothing is stopping some a-hole from just reaching over and stuffing a few rare figs into his pocket and scalping them on ebay. Owner of the actual LEGO displays are certain to be pissed when they pick up their ribbons after the fair closes, only to find out that they lost $100 in hard-to-find figs.

This whole setup is so f-ing stupid that I just shot off a mail to the fair operators and told them to fix this. I would NEVER enter any of their LEGO contests, or have anyone I know enter them if they can't secure the exhibits properly.

I lost a handful of figs to my local state fair's Lego exhibit, not to mention the judges have some extraordinarily awful taste. They stopped awarding any actual prizes as well. Would not recommend.

This fair is not the only one. About 30 miles away in another county, they place all of the kids entries, including LEGO, on long tables and fairgoers can walk right up to the tables and place their grubby hands on the displays.

Maybe that's not an issue for flower arrangements, or basket weaving, but LEGO man... easily stolen and scalped.

Thanks! It was a fun build and sturdy enough that it's still on my desk years later.

The technic ball-pins came in light grey in a couple of sets 2005-06, they've been around before mixels, originally for technic steering I think.

So I'm just perusing through BL, plotting out next months Lego budget and I notice something, they've added new parts categories for minidolls parts.
Make sense, seeing as how the heads, torsos and legs aren't comparable with normal minifigs.
But 2 questions
When did this happen?
And why did they make a category for "Minidoll Hair"? Why not just leave them in minifig hair, seeing as how they're comparable? Or even just rename "Minifig Hair" to "Minifig/Minidoll Hair"?

Exoforce hair and spoopygril hair were rubber, there are also pre-minidoll hairpieces with minipeg holes.

I was wondering if some of the newer Minidoll hairs from the Superhero series fit minifigs, some with longer bangs seem like they might intersect with the larger square torso's but i don't have any to test this.

Exo-Force being rubber actually makes sense to me. They were super spikey designs with a lot of surface area, they probably needed to deform a bit to come out of the mold

The box was also is incredible condition. Now I have completely my Star Wars Rebels Collection. However I still need to modify the Captain Rex AT TE to change/replace their ugly as fucking sin Yellow pieces and construct some custom gun platforms/turrets to replace their side ladders. You're right about the buildings,they only made one wave of sets unfortunately. Though the theme is supposed to be about an Alien DEFENSE Unit meaning aliens are invading Earth and they need to defend. A helicopter would best suited for this and not spacecraft since the humans aren't taking the offensive. I love this theme because it was basically Lego XCOM.

As someone who grew up with this theme and loved it, I agree. The new ball joints are so much better and easier to play with than the old ratchet ones, and the sets weren't structurally sound. I remember bits falling off all the time.

Also, this sad excuse for a tank still haunts me as the least enjoyable set I've ever had the displeasure of playing with.

For regular parts i can't think of any specific <40 sets from the top of my head. The Assembly Square modular came with a ton of new, usefull regular pieces but is way over that price-range.

I got this mangled whip antenna in a bulk buy and since the base is all chewed-up I've just been using it as a stick for making floating shots, but before this past week's game I cut it off right where it flares out. The new end works much, much better and needs a lot less tack to hold a connection than the antistud. Wish I had thought of this sooner.

I've always disliked this chart. Excessive greeble doesn't suggest function, it is mess that makes you -think- something's more complex. While many machines may have greeble in some form, machines that are meant to be operated and maintained safely and easily tend to look rather clean.

Well excessive is excessive ofcourse.
It's best to design something with function in mind first and only use whatever greebling is necessary to balance the design out when needed.
The image gives some good general pointers for intended functionality, but i disagree with the
Beveling thing wich quickly can look overdone when applied everywhere. (Crazy use of crisscross diagonals in paneling and hatches is pretty impractical looking)
The tastefully placed lights giving the illusion of function for stylepoints can often detract from the illusion of of function more than it adds (something done way too often in videogames as an easy all-purpose tool for visibility and readability)

Excessive corrugation also tends to look more decorative than anything if it isn't to add grip to walkways or on the inside of panels.

Like you said most consumer/military and new specified machinery is often as clean as possible, a big part of greebling really comes in when you show age, history wear, tear and grime and generally improvised solutions. Tech later added on that can't be occomodated inside the hull, panels damaged or lost showing circuitry. Added venting to accomodate extra engines and heatsources that were added or upgraded. Caging for added structuralstability of improvised older vehicles not meant for the stress of new environments.

While I can appreciate the thought that goes into a realistic building aesthetic, it's simply not the most appealing visually. The reason why post apoc and star wars are so appealing is the amount of visual noise in the image. Lots of detail to get lost in.

I'm fond of the medium: something like the y-wing: canonically it DOES have paneling, but the engineers couldn't be assed to keep adding and removing it. There's a nice contrast between the smoothly paneled cockpit and the exposed machinery on the fuselage.

Current lego store promo is really charming. Not very valuable/no exclusive parts but it's really nice. You get a really cute little passport showing the included minifig around the world, I really like it.

They also had some neck-gap, but not nearly as severe as these.

Although it might interfere with more hair-styles and hats, i think it would've been better if they made the neck opening wide enough to wrap around the legde of the head piece much like the medallion and moustache pieces.

Why? There were so many cool ships and neat minifig potential for the whole series. It also produced some nice waifu material.

The whole series could really use some rereleased for some of the sets, like the Ghost/Phantom combo, another minifig of Zeb, Rebels could have easily produced a Lambda Class Shuttle, A Young Lando minifig, Those Imperial civilian shuttles from Lothal would have been cool, a new AT DP that doesnt blow ass...

Having bought both this set and Lance a lightning, if Lego had combined Lance and his horse with the flying heat packing rock monster, I'd cream and buy several.
Aaron's vehicle is just lackluster, and the big hulking guardian from Lance's set easily loses his staffs, and has awkward jutting joints in arms. Something more akin to the lava beast in axles tower carrier would have been better.

They used to work better when it took 7+ days for the thread to hit the bump limit.

After TLM came out, we switched to weekly challenges, which worked pretty well. New suggestions were made on Saturday and the new thread was made on Sunday (or whenever the old thread hit image limit) with the new challenge

Quality on the Lepin bricks are good, but the plates are a bit iffier. The one Lepin set I got had some slightly warped plates. Not enough to be an issue, but with a set that is mostly plates in the visible section, it might be a problem.
Quality on the figures is shite. Anything that moves is problematic too (hinges, turntables, etc) Be warned, idk how much of that set is made of those kinds of parts.
