I was in Big Lots today, and it looks like all their skeleton stuff is out. I don't think there was much new to report this year. They have small versions of the cat, dog and fish that have light-up eyes, make noise and shake.

WonFest Summer has come and gone, and while I didn't see anything skelly, Kaiyodo did show a new variant of their Jizai Okimono Knight. No release date other than a nebulous "2018". Should be a great counterpart for the Jizai and Argonaut skeletons.

If the revo joint size is compatible they are. My biggest hear is that they use a larger joint for the knight than they do with the skeletons. As to which one to use, that's largely up to personal aesthetics. My plan is to use the damaged skull that came with the Jizai samurai skeleton. You should probably grab the Argonaut skeleton just out of general principle.

Got my camera charged, but now the daylight's gone and I don't have a decent lightbox.
Ended up using an 80 lumen light behind and above the skeledoots and camera flash about 5 ft away head on. Two layers, base is with flash diffused by a plastic bag, top is with no diffuse. Blanded using dodge layer overlay setting.

Ended up making it look like a cg render or something.

Very weird question, but does anybody have the original vintage Rattle Me Bones board game by Tyco? I had it as a kid but gave it to my cousin. But now I want to see if the skeleton is close to 1:12 scale or not.

I don't own it, but the video on YouTube makes it look awesome! There's some photos of the game on the 'net, and this is a pic of an adult's hands and the skeleton. Doesn't look like 1:12 to me. Looks like 1:6, but not anatomically correct- the bones are thick and it's toy-like. And it has to be spring loaded somewhere.

That's the current one with the spring shoulders. The original had a ball joint. I do believe the original is vaguely 1:6 scale like the new one, though.

Thanks, guys. I'm just really getting desperate for a 6.5-7" skeleton for display purposes, so I was hoping I had found an option with Rattle Me Bones. The more well known 1:12 ones are just way too short for what I'm going for.

I'm getting desperate. At this point I'm considering buying a few vintage Skeleton Warriors and tearing them apart and cobbling together a good one, or going with a 3D printed one from shapeways.

Yeah, a skeleton figure in the 1:10 ballpark is gonna be rough. I don't think vintage Skeleton Warriors aren't gonna get you where you want to be, unfortunately. They're gonna be ~5.75", definitely products of their time

Ohhhhhh.... I didn't realize that you were looking at the Rattle Me Bones game as a possible source for the skeleton fig. Well, if 5.5" (Kaiyodo) is too small, and you're not in the market for 1:6, there is one that might work- a MEGO sized one. 8" tall, sorta. Right now their server is down/flaky, but you can see the pics on this blog site: http://misfitdaydream.blogspot.com/2015/10/8-inch-skeleton-articulated-figure.html

As i recall, the MEGO skellys were cheap... really cheap. They're cartoon-y, but no less than the Rattle Me Bones game one.

There's bits and pieces here and there - surprisingly, Mattel made quite a few skeleton pieces for their WWE figures, so out of all places apparently I can turn to rasslin' figures for boney parts. But thus far, there's no one complete package in that size.

Hmmm. looked it up and normally Citadel is prime stuff. Maybe it was designed as a wash to go over painted objects, and not directly on PVC plastic? I'm happy with the results from Testor's Acrylic wash. Works great when applied to off-white skeletons, but didn't work on the semi-transparent ones.

Was in Dollar General the other day, and noticed they had their Halloween aisle in full effect. Nothing to really report, they had the skeleton garland and necklaces we've all seen before. You gotta shake that shit like a motherfucker. I mean shake it atleast three times longer than you think is necessary. Also work with a pre-damp brush and work it around while wet so it finds all those sweet grooves. If there's puddles on flat surfaces wick them up with the brush while the paint is wet. Nuln oil especially likes to form puddles of pigments, the stuff settles out of the base liquid too easily.

Nothing wrong with that, as long as the orders get filled. If he's not selling in volumes like in the thousands, he doesn't need to contract a 3rd party shipper if he can get free volunteer work from friends and family. Bottom line is that people get what they paid for, no matter whose hands put the merchandise in the envelope.

If I had any concerns about indie toy lines, the cowboy one is the one to have doubts about. Run by a guy who has a very visible history of not sending out merchandise that people paid for.

Mine did. Blind bags, but there is are holes in the front and back to aid in identification. Hell, the red portion of the bag is transparent enough to read the figure's name on the paper. If that doesn't do ya, they even have codes printed on the back.

He's about 5" without tail. I think World Market gets a different brand than other retailers (not much tail poseability and his jaw is fixed which kinda sucks). He was only $4 so I couldn't pass him up.

Where was this pic taken? Kaiyodo Hobby Lobby in Tokyo? The bank of gacha machines against the back wall look familiar, and they do have glass cases in the shop to display their more awesome merchandise. Well, it's a toss-up. Dokuroman skeletons are INCREDIBLY affordable if you catch them at the right time on Rakuten Toysanta. They have their charms, and they're scaled-down versions of the well-regarded Kaiyodo Jason and the Argonauts skeleton.

The Boss Fight ones are pricier (like $15 EACH), but the joint design is far more reliable than Dokuroman.

Just came back from Wally World, fellow Skellybros. I spotted:

Skeleton Cobra w/hinged jaw and bendy body.
New Spider Skeleton, looks like it's modeled after a Black Widow as opposed to the Tarantula we're used to.
Skeleton T-Rex! This is a big'un. I'd hazard a guess at somewhere between 1:12 and 1:10? Definitely larger than 1:18.

I just bought the Skeleton Warriors Baron Dark since I was always on the fence but once October Toys went bye bye I decided to buy it on BBTS who actually have it on sale for a dollar more than the original kickstarter price so it's a good deal

I'm surprised by the quality, I expected a bad paint job or designs but everything is top notch. I do think the figure feels a bit fragile but man, the paint, sculpt, packaging, everything seems professional.

Any other great kickstarter figures? I always assumed they'd all be full of flaws.

Back... kinda disappointed this year by the stuff at Michael's. Nothing really new, and this year, they didn't even have the skull necklaces/bracelets that had been a reliable source of 1:18 skulls. However, if you're in the market for 1:12 skulls, or skulls that are close in size to Kaiyodo's 5.5" skeletons, they have these "Tim Holtz" skulls. The Tim Holtz line is usually scrapbooking stuff, but occasionally, they'll have a 3-D product. These are realistic, have good detail, and would look good sitting on a miniature table or wizard's bookshelf. No lower jawbone.

One thing that impressed me dude was they have a 5 foot tall skeleton with ratchet joints, so he can hold a pose. But walmart has the same thing for 30 bucks instead of 80.

Hey, take a look at this blog... same skeleton army, but it was available in black, and black w/ silver hightlights. Just imagine how they'd look with a coat of primer, bone-white paint, and a dark paintwash!

I noticed Walgreens has a pack of skeleton soldiers this year, but they have even softer sculpts than the Dollar General ones.

Yeah, I saw them at Walgreens too. 16 skeletons for $1.99, but the sculpts looked cheap and lousy. They're thinner, less detailed and don't have as much character as the Dollar General ones.

Probably a dumb question but I just got my first Dokuroman skeletons and they didn't come with assembly instructions. I've got pictures to refer to, and basic anatomy charts online and all, but just wondering if anyone had any general tips to know before assembling them?

Also, has anyone tried painting them yet? Seems like you could do cool paint versions without much difficulty but I've never painted a figure before.
