>>6538497I don't think their Dinobots are fiddly necessarily, though a lot of FansToys' engineering isn't particularly fun to play with, but I DO find the Dinobots (and all their stuff) rather uncreative. They're pretty much exactly what you expect them to be. Nothing more, nothing less. And for some people, that's fine, but I like a bit more flair to my figures, which is why I went for Giga instead.
I do agree that tends to be the way things are going but I can't say I like it. The TRUE Geewunners are a real pain in the ass. I love G1, but not enough to sacrifice any semblance of fun and creativity for it to look like an inconsistent 80s cartoon.
And then you get people who whine about TakaraTomy's new Masterpieces being too cartoon-accurate but that they like FansToys because they're cartoon-accurate but still detailed. Then you basically get into "well, I want it cartoon-accurate, but not THAT cartoon-accurate, but MORE cartoon-accurate than that" etc., and it all gets really fucking pathetic.
That's why I take a somewhat "good enough" approach with most designs. Hasui's style is still my favourite because he takes the best of all the sources and combines them into the "best" interpretation of that character, even if it's not the most accurate.
I should say that despite all of that, I still like TakaraTomy's newer Masterpieces too, but even those are still FUN, because they don't sacrifice the fun value just for the design, in my opinion.
