OP of this thread here, can't we just leave all the bickering aside and have a civilized discussion about transforming robots? If having some extra info on the opening post bothers you so much then literally just ignore it and carry on with the talk below, all the stuff in there has been posted in countless other previous threads without anyone autistically screeching about it. That's the issue though, I'm not sure if I should get TR Blitzwing or go back for the T30 instead. I far prefer the design of the latter but the former appears to be far more functional and has a very neat G1 taste to it.

You guys see every other general like the figurerats, the figma, the plamo generals; the ones with normal people? They all keep a sort of sticky that includes a list of recent releases because not everyone lives and breathes transformers.

I enjoyed the movies and their designs but G1 designs are really more versatile. If they are going to start treating the robots as actual characters it'd be better to try to make them closer to G1.

Rightfully so, MPM Prime needed another run or two through the design phase, and manufacturing needed to be correctly established.

It's not as noticable because of how messy the Bay robot modes are, but just like the truck cab his torso is literally incapable of tabbing together correctly without hard mods. The tabs that tab the hood pieces into the diecast abdomen are off by almost 4mm.

IMO Cyberjets are fucking timeless. I can't think of a line they'd be exceptionally out of place in (given an appropriate deco) except Beast Wars/Machines.

My only concern is mold degradation, they got used quite a bit already and I seem to remember my Universe 1.0 Space Case being a floppy fucker right out of the box, if he wasn't then he certainly is now.

I think the molds are dead. Last use was what... 2004/2005 with the 3 molds getting repaints in Universe 1.0 and the Japanese Robot Masters line. WIth the Hooligan mold getting one last use with Botcon Ricochet.

Shapeways pieces are printed plastic from 3D models, so no assembly or paint. There's a lot of different materials, but from what I can tell, Acrylate currently has the best mix of detail and solidity.

Take this with a grain of salt since I haven't actually used Shapeways. You might have more luck in the customs thread, where they are sure to help you with paint and materials.

G2 Megatron and I still have him. He just needs to have the corrosion cleaned off of his battery compartment because he had the same batteries sitting in him for over 20 years. My bro got G1 Optimus. We really didn't get much as far as old TFs seeing as how I was born in 88 and my bro was only 3 years older than me but somehow, that's what my folks gave us. The only other older TF I could find that we ever owned was Afterburner and he's missing his weapons.

Unless they made a running change, every copy of the figure has the same problems. All but one are design defects, the last is a universal manufacturing defect.

If you want proof on the last one, look very closely at the render on the instruction manual. You'll notice that the hood pieces have some subtle grooving in the fire wall that creates a ring-like effect around his chest badge. On the finished figure those grooves sit fully above the badge, it's not even remotely close. You'll also notice that if you push down firmly on the cab pieces in the middle of the roof sections without having the hood chest plates tabbed in place they actually snap down onto his shoulders (there are tabs on the underside of the cab roof and slots on the underside of the sleeper cab roof that peg together.) The roof pieces should be securely tabbed to and completely flush with the neck plate. As soon as you tab in his abdominal hood pieces the cab roof pieces come untabbed, because the abdominal hood piece tab is almost 4mm too high. That's way too big of a difference to be a random QC failure.

I love the humanoid movie designs and I've been wanting screen-accurate articulated bayformers since the first movie. The revoltechs are just what I want but I can't have them. Plus there's no TLK Barricade revoltech or AoE Bumblebee. There's bad distribution where I live and we only got the first legends wave along with the step changers. The premier series (wave 1 only) is a very rare sight and even then there's only two or three pieces in the stores whenever I find them. I can't into e-money because reasons and so have a very limited range available.

It's the unlimited butthurt of never getting G1 back when it mattered to them. The early 2000s were the peak of the 80s nostalgia bubble, TMNT & He-Man just got a damn fucking good updated show and great looking toys. Transformers at that time got the DW comic that got most of the fans who were in their 20s super hype & they expected that the G1 revival is coming soon just like how it happened with TMNT & MOTU especially since they were nearing the 25th anniversary.

But the G1 revival never came. We got Energon & Cybertron. Then the last hope of a neo-G1 died with the Bayformers. The past decade has all been Bayformers light so the aging fanbase grew more and more butthurt and resentful that THEY never got their neo-G1 show back when they needed it the most. Most of the fans nowdays don't give a fuck about G1 and just want cool robots that turn into cool shit.

That's why there's such amounts of PURE BUTTHURT over the Prime Wars trilogy, it's exactly everything that they ever wanted but 10 years too late, so even tings that they would've loved back then (every voyager is a triple changer! Dinobot combiner! Voyager seekeer!) are now treated like the worst thing ever.

Meh, the amount of detail is genuinely great but the wide shoulders and thicc limbs have never been my favorite design proportions for G1 Optimus Prime. It's the main reason as to why I still prefer MP01 over MP10 and it's also why I'm not all that interested in that.

The curse of a "corporate fandom". Any franchise that is owned by a massive corporation that doesn't have a singular vision of the fiction or just a single dude handling the fiction will end up rebooting and restarting over and over again every time the interest dies down a bit to keep the profits at a maximum all time. Seeing how it's again owned by a corporation every new iteration of the franchise will have the same characters doing the same things but a little bit different to maintain copyright and trademark so that will inevitably tribalize the fandom into "x is better an y" camps that will proceed to shitfling each other and autistically scream about everything.

Eventually the fandom has 2 end point

1. dead fandom (GI Joe/MOTU) where there are no new fans coming in ever because the company spent too many years just jerking off the old fandom at the expense of new blood to the point that only a handful of people are left in it and since the franchise isn't deemed profitable anymore they will scream about literally everything and anything.

2. Newfag fadom (tmnt), where all the oldfags that were with it from the start either died off, or left the fandom because of the butthurt that their fav piece of the franchise is forgotten and dead leaving only the kids that keep coming in the fandom talking about anything.

Transformers is currently at the crossroads, it can go either way.

GI Joe was Hasbro's little darling franchise. It got the best writers, better budget for shows, better toys and was overall much better cared for than Transformers. But then Hasbro refused to properly revive the franchise (Sigma 6 cartoon was fairly popular but the toyline was utter garbage) or drive it in a new interesting direction. Coupled with video games like CoD and Battlefield taking over as the "military fantasy" toys for the 13year old Hasbro was left cold not knowing what to do with it anymore and just relied on the old fags to keep the franchise alive, which is never a good idea.

Same with He-Man. Matty thought that they only need to repaint one mold 20 times and sell it in limited overpriced ammount and that the oldfags will just keep throwing money at them forever refusing to even try and bring in any new fans with a movie or a cartoon. Again it backfired.

Hasbro has issued a special announcement to warmly welcome press and the attendees of Brand Licensing Europe 2017 to visit their booth this year. While the announcement highlights what they will be exhibiting on the show floor, one particular line caught our attention:

“Earlier this year we released Transformers: The Last Knight and we announced a Bumblebee Movie due out in theaters December 2018. And in June 2019, we will unveil an entirely new, exciting storyline for Transformers. That’s three movies in three years, as well as our television programming, gaming and growing consumer product portfolio. It’s a fantastic time to be involved in Transformers”

This is our first official statement regarding the Transformers movie to be out in 2019. We found the above statement to be rather odd for a couple of reasons; The announcement does not highlight the 2019 Transformers Movie as Transformers 6 (or 7). It also refers to the aforementioned movie as “an entirely new storyline”. Maybe we are reading too much into it but we’d definitely love to know what our forum members make out of it.

Additionally, Tom Warner, Senior VP Transformers stated that storytelling is key in engaging with new and current fans and driving growth. Production has already started on the 2018 film, which will be based on kids’ favorite; Bumblebee. The third film is slated for 2019.

You can check out the scanned Transformers portion of the Press Release, after the jump. Brand Licensing Europe 2017 will take place this October 10th at Olympia London, UK. Hasbro booth can be located at D-40.

The problem with trying to ride off quality, is quality requires money. Which is the one thing no one wants to spend. Thats why so many cartoons look like raw shit these days. Animation is expensive, so you get these simplistic as fuck designs with minimal animation, or worse, some shit that looks like it was made in Flash 12 years ago. Good writers? Expensive.

And worse, since it's a toy company, it wants to do one thing: Sell toys. It's gonna try to manhandle everything. It's gonna want new designs and new guys thrust in at every corner to push more toys. It's also gonna be pretty pissed and cut back heavily if the show isn't an instant success that translates to increased toy sales.

Greed has effectively made it impossible to have quality. Shit, only reason IDW was good was because Hasbro didn't give a shit until they noticed it was selling well because writers could just do whatever they wanted. Then the manhandling began...

Alright, I just finally picked up the Voyager and Leader TLK Megatron toys, and holy fuck was the voyager worth the wait. The leader class is okay, I just wish the wing backpack could detach and form a shield like the initial prototypes showed (I think), and like in his box art (pic related).

God tier post here, my N-words. There's almost a consensus of sorts that Beast Wars was both the most well-written show and the most revolutionary toyline, which is interesting because that entire franchise basically sprung out of Hasbro's discontent with the market fatigue of traditional Transformers and, instead of rehashing the same old garbage, the creative minds behind the series went ahead and tried doing something completely new. They retained the core basis of two battling factions of robots and added some hints and plot points to explain how it was loosely canon with the original cartoon but instead told a completely different story in a completely different setting with entirely self referential characters and themes. Seeing how it basically brought the franchise back to life and formed an entire new fandom around it that still sticks around up until today, it's probably fair to say it worked incredibly well.

It's sad because nowadays modern Hasbro would never have the balls to attempt something as bold as Beast Wars. Do you think they would ever gives us a series consisting entirely of new characters in an entirely new setting? Jesus fucking christ, of course not! How are we going to entice our neckbeard fandom without the same GeeWun story rehashed? And it's not just the old farts, how are the kids going to buy the toys if there are no Primes of Bumblebees?! People would fucking riot!

Not necessarily, but BW has an actual active fanbase that still loves the show, there's a reason as to why CHUGs and MPs of the main cast are still being made. The same hardly goes for Armada and certainly not for Animated, so it's fair to say Beasties are the second most beloved cartoon iteration only after G1 itself.

Look at Prime. By the time the show hit mid season 2 an episode cost ONE FUCKING MILLION DOLLARS to make. All because the retard producers wanted to do quasi Bayformers since Bayfromers were the shit.

They LITERALLY tough that the popularity of Transformers and somewhat good looking CGI would launch their entire TV network consisting of nothing but reruns of 90s tv and this one show. This is what Hasbro ACTUALLY believed when they launched the HUB and instead a fucking flash animated cartoon about midget rainbow horses became the biggest thing to come out of it.

It's how tone deaf Hasbro is to fiction. The difference between the midget horses and TFP is that the horses had a proper industry professional that created a fuckton of popular and loved shows at the helm, while the latter had the two biggest hacks in the Hollywood thinking that flash cgi will again be enough.

The thing about Japanese animation industry is that it doesn't really matter what studio is working but which individuals are working on it as key animators. That's why for example there's still no news on One Punch Man season 2, they can't get the whole team that did season 1 together because they don't all for at the same studio or are working on difference projects.

If I had to choose a studio tho, realistically I think Studio 4°C would be a good choice. They already did some work on Animated (the animation was bad most of the time because CN was jewing out on the budget) and worked on multiple American shows.

If you're a toy collector who doesn't give a fuck about fiction it doesn't matter what a character looked like in a cartoon you just want a cool looking toy with possibility and a fun transformation. If you're a toy collector that still likes fiction you will want a toy that resembles the character on screen as much as possible but not to the point where it's a hindrance to the fun of the toy.

The geewuuns don't care about any of that. They are people experiencing a severe midlife crisis who have lost all touch with the physical world and think that maybe JUST MAYBE if they get all the 84-85 character looking EXACTLY like they did in the cartoon they barely remember they JUST MIGHT become normal again. They don't feel fun of seeing a toy, they don't feel any joy of transforming it for the first time they just want to check out a name on their list of "collect X things to turn back time to 1985"

That's why Hasbro can take one mold, give it a different gun and paint it in 30 different colours and sell it 30 different times as a different character, because all characters in the G1 they remember looked like vaguely humanoid coloured boxes. I know that repaints were always a thing but the Prime Wars trilogy just made it into an unfunny joke.

I take it you weren't here or anywhere near the fandom during the release of MP Optimus and MP Soundwave. Scalpers were successful enough that time that they effectively had swallowed the entirety of the stock sold in the US, and their prices were full clown town as always.
Also, I take you weren't here when the first KOs surfaced and were discovered to actually fix common issues on the official release, or maybe you know but you are just acting like an attack dog for a company who has no loyaty for you.

Hang on, G1... when did the Masterpiece line, a line focused on G1 nostalgia, start... 2003? When people who had watched G1 as kids were nearing their thirties? Didn't I say something like that earlier?

Alternators was really bland and uninteresting. oh sure real cars and that detail is nice but most transformations are too finnicky and it ends up with predictable/tired design ideas.

But it is, that's the point. EVERYTHING suffered, not just Transformers. I'd love for Hasbro to actively choose to make less or even lose money producing 2009/2010-level complexity Transformers at $10 a pop again too, but its just not gonna happen. You're allowed to not like the current toys, but what you want is simply no longer realistic to expect.

As for TRU, they've always marked their stuff up past MSRP and they're up shit creek right now.

And I think this illustrates my previous point well. The TF5 toys are arguably a step up from TF3 and 4, and Hasbro raised the price. We simply aren't going to get huge, detailed toys for $10-12 anymore.

If anything I'd blame the screenwriters for handing him scripts so bad ROTF's quality can actually be weighed against other movies, you know, that one who had no screenwriters to work in? Bay with a decent script is pretty good. I don't think Bay himself thought it was a good idea to make the movie called Transformers not centered around them but it's somewhat clear from what I've read that he might have agreed to it.

They had a minicon 3 pack, and Leader Armada Megs anon(Nemesis Prime is also up for debate since that whole name and shtick was officially started in Armada depending on how you see RiD Scourge). They also had 3 reps for BWs, 2 reps for G2, a BM and (at least one)2000 RiD rep. No matter how strong or lose we take the G1 term over the IDW less than half were G1 inspired through and through.

And that is in-part due to the rise in costs for plastic and oil, meaning the toys are both more expensive to produce, package and ship overseas, and the industry-wide downturn in toy sales over the last decade. why do you think TRU is the only store willing to stock things like MPs or big exclusives? Why not? I mean you shouldn't make a whole figure out of it but that goes for almost any material; they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

I personally love diecast in legs of figures, it lowers their center of mass and helps them stay planted even in crazy poses.
