Jazz and Blackout hanged around from the beginning of the movie up to the final battle, though. Scorponok had one of the most iconic scenes in the whole series as Blackout did. Devastator did a Sixshot and fought combined and uncombined on Egypt.

So, now that the mods / gods are obliging us to have a complete OP, who else would be up to make a /tfg/ starter's guide? We always get newbies on these threads asking for what their first figure should be or what toyline is a good starting point, and an overall arching chart like pic related could be pretty useful.

My guess is that they had to give the humans something to do because Bay and the Army are huge faggots about being featured in movies, but like everyone in the fandom has been saying that's not the type of "something to do" that has worked before in transformers; hell, most people in the fandom don't like that humans have a say in the conflict.
It seriously fucked up the movies, decepticons in the first movie were awe-inspiring and intimidating but then in DOTM you have Starscream having the most retarded death in the entire series.

When G1 is at its best, it's barely good but very memorable; when it's at its worst it's also somehow at its best because few cartoons even at that time would allow themselves to be as retarded as G1 Transformers.
It's fitting that the toyline is similar in that it had some of the most iconic toys in history (Optimus, Datsuns, Megatron, Devastator, Soundwave) but also some pretty shit toys (most minibots) in the same toyline.

Not to mention, Cullen is old and Prime is basically the only voice role he does anymore. Disney almost never hires him to do Eeyore now. Since the mvoies he's become the voice of Optimus is everything but Animated. For reference sake, before the movies, Peter Cullen only voiced Optimus for about70 episodes plus the movie. Garry Chalk, who voiced Primal, voiced an Optimus in something like 220 episodes. Since 2007 Cullen has run circles around that, and no one even mentions Chalk anymore despite voicing Optimus for 11 years.

Given chrome is a shit material and Takara has proven completely inept in it's use with the recent few MP's, I'd be fine with the chrome replaced by silver paint. As for white instead of silver bits on the crotch/legs, I'd have to see it first and then judge.

Seriously, there's a lot of shit flung back and forth about Hasbro vs. Takara, but I think one thing nobody should bullshit about is that you should almost never waste money on Hasbro MPs. They're so overpriced and are usually missing paint apps, and there's almost always a clusterfuck of QC issues. The only debatable instance was MP Soundwave, which came with all of his cassettes for a much better price, but seeing as how it got scalped to high-heaven, it was probably still easier and cheaper to go Takara.

Untrue. While Hasbro actually painted the clearance lights yellow, Takara MP-10 is actually almost completely painted red, whereas on Hasbro it's all just red plastic, which looks much chintzier by comparison. Takara also has extra silver paint in truck mode along the front wheel well.

I bought the Hasbro version first for $100 off of their site back in the day, and then the rest of my MPs were imported from Takara, and I noticed how out-of-place MP-10 looked as my collection grew. It just looked cheap, and also the joints were weak as fuck, especially the ankles and hips, and the chest doors never fucking closed right because they were pinned crooked. I ended up getting the Takara version for $140 during a re-issue and I was blown away. The quality was on another level all together. The paint was amazing, the joints were tight, and the red paint on the truck cab surface gave it a much richer color. It looked more like a collectible and less like the toy the Hasbro version was.

Of course, you're right about the eyes. I'm surprised they haven't fixed it on re-issues. I just took apart the head and swapped the eyes, then gave my Hasbro version to a friend who didn't care about the dark eyes anyway. Even if you don't have the extra eyes, it's easy enough to paint them. I also ended up painting the marker lights (with an actual amber acryllic paint meant for turn signals on model cars, looks much nicer than the bright yellow Hasbro used)

And fuck off with this "paint is the devil" shit. The paint on MP 10 is durable as fuck and looks amazing, as it was on most earlier MPs. It's only been since MP-36 that people wet their pants whenever they see paint on a figure now. I've transformed my MP-10 probably a hundred times and it doesn't have a single scratch or chip. And even if it did, a couple of scratches here or there is preferable to the entire figure looking like cheap playskool shit because Hasbro is too cheap for paint and the fans are too scared to scratch it all off.

I know you're just trying to bait me on the paint shit. Sorry, I'm not a hamhander, and even if I was, the paint is pretty fuckin' durable back then, when the MP designs were smarter and 90% of the budget didn't have to go into clusterfuck engineering to make it 100% cartoon accurate. Lambor, and the Datsuns (especially Smokescreen) and MP-10B (which has an amazingly gorgeous paint job), are pretty much completely painted, and nobody pitched a fit about it because it looked good and was durable. In fact, people complained when they realized Wheeljack wasn't painted because he ended up looking so much cheaper than other mostly-white cars, like Prowl or Red Alert. Stop being retarded.

Most other threads usually bitch about how the resulting figure looks nothing like the paint job shown (see: damn near every figma these days), or the sculpt went to shit between the proto and the release (see: figma again, for the quickest easiest example).

For a simpler comparison, look at the white on MP Prowl vs the white surface on MP Wheeljack and tell me which looks better. Or hell, just compare the painted vs. unpainted red surfaces on MP Sideswipe. It's pretty fuckin' undeniable.

Thing is, both the cast plastic and the paint look just as good to me. Maybe it's the paint on them.

I know MP10 is the fandom's darling but I just don't like how G1 Optimus looks as a material object made of matter. It could be the more industrial take on it of MP01 or the sweet spot between toy looks, functionality, cartoon looks of MP10; I don't like it. It's just fucking goofy.
Same goes for the Dinobots. I like the idea and feel of their designs but in the flesh they just looks like shit to me.

As a 3p fan myself, I can honestly say that thing never looked good even when the 3p industry first started taking hold. Fansproject's Assaulter (Broadside for those who don't follow 3p) was a pretty awesome (albeit dated) figure but when they followed it up with THAT thing, it baffled me that anybody would have even let that design out the door, let alone folks lining up to actually drop $100 on it, even if it was the only Springer available at the time. I don't care how desperate I am for a figure of a character. If the only option currently available looks like shit, I'm not gonna touch it. If nobody, official or otherwise steps up and does a better figure of that character, then I'll just live with the gap in my collecting instead of spending money on something that looks like/is a piece of shit.

Not looking good for getting ramhorn in my country because places are putting TR stuff on clearance while despite MULTIPLE sales we're still on tlk deluxe wave 1 and piss all of wave 3 trickling in, so what can I custom paint fangry's head into, anyone come to mind?

Absolutely, but I think it's been phased out since the beginning of this decade. Clear plastic is an issue for its lack of flexibility as a material, and I haven't heard anything about paint beyond a few retards thinking gold paint will make their toys crumble.

Yes, I have seen it fracture, and under the same as solid plastic but never has it been anything other than an aesthetically nightmare.

Mind you this is from my work with gundam models, I'm actively cutting the plastic, if anything I find it harder to cut than solid plastic colors, pic related was a testament to that and the only fragile parts to him is all based on the cluster fuck of a design, I touch him, his arms fall off, many times, nothing has cracked though

I think the demonization of clear plastic hit with CW, when all of the deluxes dropped clear plastic to reduce costs because of the combining gimmick. Hasbrocucks immediately began spouting that they hated clear plastic anyway because it looks bad and it broke constantly. Similar retarded arguments have been made against pinned wheel axles, metallic chrome, and paint. As soon as Hasbro gets cheap and starts omitting a detail/feature on their toys, the fanboys rise up and insist that said feature was always stupid and terrible and the toys are now better for having dropped it. The only thing I don't think I've seen anyone white knight for is the lack of tampographs in favor of stickers on the recent Voyager figures. But I wouldn't be surprised if someone has.

If one "plays" with their figures tarnishing is a problem which is why straight up silver works better, though in a case like a masterpiece figure just enough stability so it holds during basic transformation is paramount, and my mp hotrodimus's chrome came off at the touch, that isn't good (luckily I got one of those chrome markers, its actually better than when I first got it now).

Everything else though is stupid but wouldn't surprise me if all of these complaints are made by the same ham handed people constantly.

You know what I'm surprised about, they haven't found a way to make tampo prints metallic so they can make factory applied stickers obsolete

The balljoint on one of the doors on my 07 Camshaft broke, the peg that held it in altmode was always tight so that might have the helped to break it. A balljoint on one of the arms on my old Beast Wars Razorclaw broke but only because I used to disassemble figures with balljoints to simulate battle damage.
To be fair, Camshaft was hanging for close to six years exposed to sunlight inside its blister when I found it but I still don't put much trust on balljoint sockets made of transparent plastic; makes me weary of getting The Best Jolt, shitty arms and all.

How's Blitzwing stand up to the T30 one? I don't hate the mold as much as everyone else and actually like it as Doubledealer, but the new one looks promising. I'm mostly worried about the shoulders, they look like small joints carrying a lot of weight and that makes me fear breakage in the future.

If you've got the T30 one though, use its weapons with this one. The T30 does have better weapons. You can slot all 4 weapons into this plane mode, dunno about tank though, haven't tried.

Yeah, all of his shit holds in solid. His tank mode is probably his weakest because of the way the treads stick out further than the body, but eh, all triplechangers have a weak mode, and honestly, I think it makes him look pretty distinct because of it.

I've actually grown to love him for being so bad. I mean, holy shit. The fact that there is that much awful compacted into such a small package... fucking brilliant. The fact that he's supposed to wield this mini-uzi that completely clashes with his aesthetic is just icing on the cake.

I'm rather fond of the star shaped Starcream. I really liked his DotM Deluxe mold (bought TC and SW too).

In fact I'm rather looking forward to this new movie line with him getting another Voyager sized figure if >>6548097 pans out.
