It's probably because growing up I had a LOT of the 90's Kenner Star Wars figures and they were my staple toy to play with, so everyone was fairly uniform. But when I got the MvC Mega Man for Christmas, he was immediately made into my self-insert as a boy who was all but killed in an asteroid mining accident and his father(played by Obi-Wan) transferred his consciousness into a modified mining robot.
