I feel like Shrapnel is the weakest one.
I was thinking who to buy - bombshell or kickback.
Bombshell looks solid and i love how his torso-legs-arms make a cool standart robot character.
However hes boring and Kickback turns into a neat robo insect. While his robo mode is awkward with those long arms.
I might just buy kickback for insect mode and wait for that box set...

Fuck it /tfg/, I can't take this shit anymore. Do any of you remember how glorious it was to slowly watch the engineering of Transformers go from blocky rudimentar figures to the beautiful and intricate stuff in HftD and early Generations? For a moment it felt like the sky was the limit, HasTak was sequentially putting out god-tier figures one after the other and the only thing we could complain about were our wallets collectively bursting. 2010 was a really good year to be a TF collector.

And then Dark of the Moon comes out and suddenly we're all wondering, why is the engineering somewhat simpler this time around? Why are so many of them lacking in paint? Where are proper-scaled figures of the new cool designs like Dino and Megatron? Why are so many major characters like Q and Soundwave being pushed to the end of the line? That was the first moment when something was clearly wrong, but still, there were plenty of solid molds and both Prime and RtS were great anyways, so we weren't exactly worrying about what appeared to only be a partially faulty year at best.

Then 2012 came and holy fuck, not just did Generations suddenly start cooling down without hardly any new molds, but Fall of Cybertron had the disservice of getting some of the most horrendous figures we had ever seen in a major retail line since Armada. Poor engineering, poor paintjobs, hollow parts, it really could have been a disastrous year if it wasn't for some comparatively solid Prime toys.

2013 and early 2014 was a surprising improvement with Prime ending on a strong note and Thrilling 30 putting out some of the greatest CHUGs we know, but then AoE came around and we just sort of collectively realized it was only going to go downhill from here. You cannot possibly imagine the distaste of walking into a TRU and only seeing rudimentar overpirced one-step figures plastering every single store, with maybe only one or two Deluxes around at best if you're incredibly lucky, and neither of those looking particularly good or remarkable either. Other than Evasion Prime and perhaps Hound, there really isn't any other particularly memorable mold from that toyline, which is not surprising considering how little of them were made in the first place.

From that point on, it only got worse. Combiner Wars was basically a tasteless market exercise in replacing an entire Generations line with rudimentar, hollow, aesthetically repulsive and nearly unpainted Deluxes and Voyagers purely for the sake of combining into disproportionate and bland-looking gestalts that look more like stacked up Playskool vehicles rather than actual collectible figures, and it's not like we had a strong Robots in Disguise line to compliment that year either, with those also suffering from the exact same cheapness. Titans Return finally felt like a step in the right direction, with the forced Headmasters gimmick being somewhat intrusive but at the very least also giving us some far more intricate and elegant designs than what we had seen in Combiner Wars, but once again, we also had another movie line plagued with cheapness and poor distribution just in case we were finally having a good year in Transformers at last. And then, here we have Power of the Primes, and lord... We're just scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

As stupid as this sounds, they might have run risk of a lawsuit. Not all but some 3rd parties do trademark their shit and considering some of the dumb shit people have tried suing over the last decade it wuldn't surprise me if Hasbro has to watch what they make against 3rd party now.

When did we get seeker packs of the old deluxe chug mold? It took them over 12 years to make a verse two pack of th Chug OP and Megs. Even Takara is rather flighty of such things with very few times they make group sets. The age of that kind of shit is going the wayside with rising costs.

Look at a lot of the trademark blocks they suffered in the early 00s, some of them where just small nearly ma and pa business. It is by all accounts possible when you consider that an online toy retailer named Bumblebee Toys (that made knock offs of fisher-price toys, I shit you not) held the trademark on Bumblebee and it took Hasbro 11 years to get the name back.

And also look what happen when lego sued mega blocks.

aside, I agree. I'm beginning to realize that this is an addiction, because this toyline is leaving me feeling more and more cheated by the year yet I still buy this shit and actively fix it with custom paint and shapeways parts.

$20 and $30 for these, though? And they're beginning to look WORSE? Fuck this. I think I'm going to make the extra leap for Takara versions more often, wait for sales on Hasbro figures, and just skip the characters I don't care about altogether. There needs to be a line drawn somewhere and Hasbro already hopped over where it should be. I'd hope I'm not the only one cutting back, but unfortunately I know there's a lot of people in this hobby who genuinely don't understand the value of money.

It's not even double the price anymore. After currency conversion but before shipping a Takara deluxe on AmiAmi about $26.55. That's not even $7 more than the new Deluxe price. Shipping isn't too bad either if you buy several figures at once.

They all coated in paint so chunky I'm surprised it didn't come from a /toy/ customs thread. It's obvious it was rushed, hand painted test production models shown. Hopefully those stickers will be tampos in the final product, especially if they're gonna bend us over for an extra $5 per figure.

Problem is when Takara chooses absolute shit paint jobs. Some look great, yeah, but others are raw what-the-fuck moments. Some toy colors just plain look better than the show ones, but Takara still chooses show ones when they're ugly as fuck at times.

Deco yes, sculpt not really, the huge helmet looks bad, but i'm getting the takara release mostly because of show accuracy, I know that "if it didn't happen in the us it doesn't matter" but some of us grew up watching Masterforce.

1) Given how potp is doing several combiners that were missing from combiner wars, I think we have a decent chance that HasTak will go back to fill in the gaps with the HMs such as with the Horrorcons, HM Jrs and the Autobot Targetmasters after POTP.

2) I don't think there is any sort of masterplan or schedule and the releases of the HM Jrs heads by Takara is not some sort of final word on them. We know for a fact that HasTak wants to do more Japanese characters, but is not even sure of doing Star Saber or Deathsaurus at the moment just that they have promised we are getting one of them. Which is to say the planning for this seems to be rather fluid and depends on-the-ground circumstances.

It's interesting that the old Nightstick mold has elbows but no knees and the new targetmasters have knees but no elbows.

I'm still really baffled that Targetmasters aren't more universally present across the toylines. They pretty much died off immediately and any time they tried to come back, it was only a couple of sporadic releases. I'm glad Takara seems intent now on just doing them all in one go. Hasbro kind of embraced it with the weird titanmaster vehicles that mostly kind of sucked, but the new pretender armor/targetmasters seem like a step in the right direction.

I still just love a tiny robot that is dedicated to turning into nothing but a gun, though. Artfire's targetmaster is pretty much the gold standard. Only improvements I could think of would be ankles and a ball joint neck, but at this size, it's not really necessary.

I know there were TFC Targetroids, but those were of like OP and Megatron as targetmasters which were interesting, but not what I want. There were also some super generic two color TMs that were hardly better than the g1s. I just want a whole line of figures like this guy but with a 5mm peg. :/

Yes, the slots even have ridges that line up with the guns for it. Look at the top where it indents. They definitely are supposed to go there.

It's not paint on the tabs, they fit comfortably in the back slots with a nice soft grip. Sanding would probably just make them too loose on the back I fear. Also, no slots for shoulder mounted guns.

I'm not a fan of the fuzzy limbs, but it's a pretty minor complaint. I'm waiting on the Takara version, though, because I like the darker colors and the extra detail on the dragon heads. Also, bonus targetmaster, although I wish he still came with the standard guns, too.

Nobody has talked about this guy, probably because there's not much to say. I got him in with Kup, and he was totally outshined, to the point that I almost regretted buying him, but I finally got to playing with him last night and he's pretty great. The gray plastic is a bit bland, and it doesn't help that he's missing the 'Con badge (because he's technically unaligned anyway) and the extra bit of purple the Hasbro one has across the belly, which makes his torso a bit of a snoozefest, but all the paint everywhere else more than makes up for it. I also kind of wish his mace/tail were a color other than gray to make it stand out, but that's the pitfall of cartoon accuracy. Also his green paint is odd. It seems a bit low quality, almost kind of chalky, if that makes sense. But the purple, gray, silver and blue is gorgeous, so overall, no regrets!

I can see them finally releasing Soundblaster, Twin Cast, Frenzy, Eject as TR repaints.

Also they should make TR Spinister, Fulcrum and Crankcase to complete the Scavangers.

Also IDW inspired Sunstreaker with Sideswipe and Red Alert retools.

Why wouldn't it work? They all have 5mm compatibility. You might just not be able to push it all the way down into his fist because of the dino leg, but it'll still fit, I think.

All of these fan polls have been a mistake. When they gave them the chance to pick the basic traits for a new character they created Windblade, one of the most awful characters and designs to ever plague transformers; when they gave them the chance to create a brand new combiner they again picked a gril because MUH GLASS CEILING and made the single most boring combiner team ever; when they were given the chance to pick a character to become a prime, and possibly get a new toy, the pick the one character whose toys could only be improved on the fucking Masterpiece line instead of picking the girl again and giving us Arcee as a Prime.

If you were to give me the choice I would pick anyone over the fans to decide on these things. No wonder they unironically think IDW is the best transformers fiction.
