For the last week or so I've been thinking about getting a couple more of the Mighty Dinosaur creator sets and using them to make more dinos. I figured I'd try and make an Ankylosaurus, as well as my favorite dinosaur, Pachycephalosaurus.
So yesterday I bought a couple of sets.

I cracked one open last night and started work. I decided as I was opening it that I wouldn't use any other bricks/parts that weren't included in each box, as a bit of a challenge.

So this is my Ankylosaurus.

What do you think?

Reposting my 1960 Briscetti Zeppola

It's got a longer wheelbase than the '53 Fairlington Conservative even though its overall length is shorter. As you can see it rides quite a bit lower than the Fairlington. The back third of the Zeppola is only connected by the 2x4 tile that makes up the back seat but I wanted the lowest profile I could get and I think I succeeded.

No particular sources or anything. But the yellow era harry potter was made around the same time as the Belville sets, featuring more conventional doll-like figures targeted at girls and garish and wacky colourschemes and prints. The designchoices and general aesthetic of some Harry Potter sets are also quite reminescant of of Bellville at the time using strange coloured and transparent pieces with occasional glitter for example. Those dolls also had interchangeable actual fabric clothes at the time so they might've had resources that would be relatively cheap. Mind you this was an era were Lego was doing some pretty experimental things to put it nicely, so it the reasons could be just whatever. I do think the troll looks really cute though.

I wish Lego still did service packs, but I guess you can just order all the pieces you want directly from B&P so it probably doesn't matter anymore.

Still, I would probably drop a fiver on a pack of brand-new trees and shrubs every time I went to the store just for the convenience and immediacy.

I sort of agree, Some current packages do this as well.
But there was actually a hermione set that came with a cardboard drawn background to make a scene. Not sure if it was this one.
The most recent leaked city sets have a better sense for kids to instantly see what you get in bricks by making the background more desaturized.

I'm a little confused here.

What exactly is considered bootleg? I was under the impression bootlegs were those chinese knock-offs and foreign brands that sort of look and work like lego but with lower quality.

But through these threads these have also been referred to as bootlegs:

Printed official TLG elements
Lego elements with stickers
Accessories from 3rd party vendors

What is and isnt considered bootleg? Is there an official definition or explanation or just pointless insults?

Bootlegs and Knock-offs are by definition copies of products originally made by another company.

The things you named (if the stickers and prints are custom-made) should just be called heresy because it's using Lego in ways that were not intented for the parts. Though that is sometimes still retarded like complaining about self-made stickers, as if Legos stickers are that much better. Why not make decals for your own figures when Lego gives you stickers for Ferrari figures?

I guess if you want to be painfully exact, bootlego would cover Lepin and others that just straight up copy lego sets. Enlighten, Kreo and others that are compatible but have their own designs, would be clone brands. Sometimes they have neat parts like the hands in >>6597623 or the gun in pic related.

It's not really consistent. and purists will ree over anything that's not lego.

People usually don't make a distinction between bootlegs, clone brands, and third-party pieces.

Bootlegs: Fake Legos that actually say "LEGO" on the packaging. Not very common.

Clone brands: Lepin, Lele, etc. Box art and design might be stolen directly from Lego, but the set doesn't claim to actually be official Lego.

Third-party: Brickarms, etc. Either genuine Lego parts with non-official printing, or non-official parts made to supplement Lego sets.

Generally, the term "bootlego" is used for #2, and "turd-party" is used for #3.

That's not a bootleg. Personally, I draw the line between clone brands and legitimate competitors by whether or not their parts library is 100% original. If they stole and re-molded parts from other companies without permission, I call them clone brands. MegaBloks might produce sub-par pieces, but at least they designed all the pieces themselves. Pretty sure Gudi stole elements from both Lego and MB.

You can if the fine bits are different. Even though the connection areas are more or less the same dimensions as Lego bricks, Mega Bloks bricks have a different shape on the underside. The offenders are the ones who literally cast a mold from a genuine element and then sell what comes out of the mold.

Still in the process of gathering a selection of shorts and jerseys, i have way more now and changed out for regular arms, but want some more colourvariety. I mostly like basketball for the 90s vibe and cool logos and colours, just like how i loved spacejam. Wich is fitting in my space city stuff.
I don't think i ever knew someone that had enough football or b-ball lego to really have a full match kind of game though.

I also had the b-ball and thought a mix of footie and b-ball would be cool, ie. b-ball and soccer on the same field. It would take some modification but it wouldn't be too weird.

The deluxe b-ball court with the NBA players and the ramps to keep the ball in-court was pretty cool. Nowadays I'd use it with the island x-treme stunts series for some sick skate park design.

You know I've been meaning to ask you guys about "heresy" for a while now. Specifically, about how you "rank" heresy.
Like what is the hierarchy of heresy, which sin against the brick is the worse? Which isn't that bad?

For the sake of discussion, we'll say that Clone/Competitor refers to any "brand" who develop their own blocks/set/products that are similar/look like a copy of Lego stuff, but use their own designs and properties. This includes MB/MC, Kre-O and some Lepin and Enlighten sets.
Bootleg refers to any "brand" or product that is a direct copy of Lego sets, designs and bricks. This will refers to fake products calling themselves Lego (or something similar) as well as Lepin/Enlighten sets that are direct copies. We'll also say that things like Dinosaur riding "Niko Knights" (Nexo Knights) or Sembo Block's "SemboClub" (which is just the Cafe Corner converted into a strip club) count as Bootlegs as well.
As 3rd Party, we'll say that refers to products designed to be used with Lego, but not made by Lego and who are up front about that. Things like BrickArms, BrickForge, Arealight, etc.

I got to watch Cadian Shock Troopers go from being sold in boxes of 20 for AU$50 to being boxes of 10 for like AU$40. And just now checked and it's 10 for AU$48. That's a 92% price rise in just 14 years and 2 months.

Thats my point, there is no true rank or even a real policy. I got steamrolled by people when I first started posting here like two years ago because of a couple pics of a hulkbuster giving the finger, and then when I discovered bootlegs/third party shit.......in a lot of ways its good to see that the more things change the more they stay the same.

It makes me think of an order of minifig monks who have some sort of holy scripture that says something like "Thou shell not willfully divide the brick. Nor shell thy take away the print that was bestowed upon a figure by the designer.". Also makes me think a little bit about 40k as well.

Also, my memory may be hazy, because 2 years is a long time (and also 2015 was a shit year for me so I kinda blocked most of it out), but I seem to remember that you were a bit of an annoying dick when you first started Hulkbustering.

I dont mind using off brand parts just to support my Moc project until i will find/order a proper oficial Lego piece from bricklink.
I was using KRE-O gun because i tolerate kreo.
Its jot just blatantly ripping off Lego like those chinese Lele/Lepin/Enlighten/whatever.
At least they made their own minifigure style and focus on specific themes
(though - most of my KREO minifigures are total shit. Their torsos separate on their own. Their heads cant hold properly and very lose, or opposite - very tight so its impossible to take Helmet off. Some of my Transformers minifigures are so loose their legs can fall off.
Imagine if you had a LEGO minfiigure with leg that could fall off randomly?

It's in another book. At least I think. They had Jedi, bounty hunters, tatoonine baddies, and like 4 others. They are just selling you different collections from the larger character book. The Ninjago books I have are about 25-ish pages long so I think that's the target size.

Not to say that the scenario that Lego has only made the piece w/ print included has never existed, (and I wish Lego wouldn't do that, its what drives people to bootlegs in the first place) but as time goes on and design behaviors would incentive re-utilizing established pieces, that becomes more of a corner case.

Actually from the few pieces that I've seen people do it in this thread, most of the erasing is done to only part of a print.
Like that one green collared shirt with the stain. It would look great without the stain, so people remove just that.
Or the classic moustache face, which looks stoic when you erase just the moustache.

I've posted trans neon green legs recently and I've done it to minifigure hair pieces, like the ballerina and cyborg from CMF, because those colors only exist with print.

BUT parts that have more specialized connections (even stuff like bar and clips connections) are too loose or too tight most of the time

Does it really have the best archive? I know it has a claim of a very high % but something about my experience with left me not convinced overall (as a non-member at least).

I think, perhaps there was times when it was no pics provided for a given item/set during my searches that made me feel like it was incomplete. Pictures that I would ultimately find on other sites easily, often bricklink.

In any case, I do love the great amount of info it provides for my bookkeeping so Im gonna get an account now.

You're just going to have to look at each store's terms for their shipping info. It isn't like ebay, where the seller can tie a single shipping cost to a single piece, because buying lego pieces individually isn't very cost effective for either party. You'll probably have to estimate the weight of the order and determine shipping cost per store based on that

Some stores can now show shipping costs when you add stuff to cart, but far from being common right now.

Some stores also have the option to "ask for quote" when you have things in the cart. If you choose that they will send you the total cost for that order and then you can decide if you want to buy it or not.

I honestly never would bother buying by the pound. If they're selling by the pound it means they got a better deal than you did (and most of these people aren't selling their childhood collection. Just reselling better finds than you'll get from them. They may have also combed through and snagged any rarer parts/figs to sell off individually)

Just try to find the better deals. If you want a good metric to go for on the "20 lbs of lego!" deals instead of "lego! $xx per lb!", then I try to do $5/lb or less, unless the parts look pretty rare.

Should also google "BrickQuest". It's an RPG system designed around Lego that uses 4x4 plates as the standard for dungeon tiles and has modular dungeon bits just like yours.

I forgot to say that it is based on brickquest! I actually played a make shift round with a friend a couple weeks ago and we had a blast (even though I was making up the whole thing on the spot)
I may switch to DnD first edition after consulting with the fa/tg/ugs, but I did like the super splicity of brick quest and also I had some ideas for new classes that use more Lego ideas. One is the “brickmancer”, who has magic bricks he or she can assemble to do such things like reaching higher places, blocking enemies, or boosting their own attack or defence
Pic related has two NPCs for the next round

Kylo Ren's Tie Fighter (75179) is $64 on amazon.
It's exactly $1 over the perfect price:part ratio, but it's a huge improvement from the starting $79.99 price tag.
Does anyone have it that would recommend it? I don't really care much at all for the sequel trilogy or the characters except for Kylo Ren, and this tie fighter looks pretty cool.

Just went to the lego store and im super excited that they have tan 1x2/1x4 bricks and 2x6/2x8 plates in the pick a brick and a couple 4x4 plates in the left over section. So I keep all of my minifigs in a container, because I don't do minifigs on a baseplate, and I was putting some on platforms, and about 1/3 of my minifigs are 5 years old or older. So I'm putting them on the platform and it was pretty depressing to see that 1/3 of my collection, being anywhere from 5-10 years old, have loose joints, weak grip, and some have the helmets pop off at the lightest touch.
My newer ones don't have this problem cause they weren't played with like the older ones, but some of my favorite figs are the older ones. Shit sucks man. I think eventually I might just try to replace some of them and, if they aren't worth something, just get rid of the other ones that are fucking up my collection.
Is this dumb to do? Should I just separate them? Cause I hate my new, tight figs being surrounded by the loose ones.

You know, cause I'll have the one lone, out of place stormtrooper, whereas Kylo Ren is Kylo Ren, and the Special TIE Pilot is obscure enough a design to pass as a special forces Imperial TIE pilot. Mind you that some pieces have a lot more or less clutch with others thanks to the different plastics used in the last years. Some cmf arms and legs can be very loose on older ones, but do fine with other cmf parts. However the opposite can also be true where a leg on some hip pieces has such a ridiculous amount of clutch it's almost impossible to move the leg around. Same for headpieces, torsos and sometimes hands.
