The 3 prerequisites are time, creativity, and parts, or at least spare cash to buy what you need. A massive repertoire of parts isn't necessary to make something cool, but a broader selection than 6 or 7 sets' worth doesn't hurt. The best way to start is modifying an existing set, or at least using one as a template. Take a set of your choosing, and think about its weak points (exposed back, poor color distribution, flat torso, fragile or loose parts or assemblies, undesirable proportions, etc) and try to improve them how you see fit.
Start paying more attention to the way parts connect in mocs and official sets. Experiment with connecting several pieces in a compact way. Once you have a good grip on how pieces can work together, you will find it a lot easier and more beneficial to make your own arms, torsos, etc. Additionally, stop looking at pieces for their intended purpose if you haven't at this point. The sooner you purge that incorrect perspective, the sooner you can make arms out of feet and torsos out of multiple smaller torsos and shit.

Bricklink's list of sets seems to be incomplete for the Rau, it lists that it only comes in medium blue and that you can only get a Rau from Turaga Nokama, and yet there are pictures of the Rau in other colors too.

So can somebody tell me what other sets have a Rau?
Also, does it come in black? What colors does it actually come in?

Not incomplete, Bricklink only inventories parts that are guaranteed to come in a set. One of the two masks you'd get in a Kanohi pack would be a Noble mask in one of six Noble colors, but there are misprints of Rurus and Matatus in Great colors that ended up in them occasionally.

I'm flattered that my project could impact somebody that much, thank you anon! I've felt exactly the same way since G2 ended, so I try to fill the void with project like this from time to time. I'm never happy if I'm not working on something, be it a custom or just completing more combiners for the collection. I'll be sure to post anything else I whip up in the thread! My next planned project is something of an expansion of the forge, but it'll probably be a while since I don't have too much spare money for MOCing.

CCBS did away with all axle holes and most peg holes. The shells doesn't even have standard size holes. Just a couple of small ones that only a rare few pieces fit into. It's a severely limited system that you can hardly combine with System or Technic pieces. It was a terrible idea, especially for a company that markets it's product as hypercustomizable.
When I said G2 masks too it further I meant they had no connection points whatsoever. No pegs, axles or small holes. They're rickety fucking clip-ons for fuck's sake. Kids can't play with them and adults can't moc. It's frustrating.

This dude isnt wrong in a lot of ways CCBS is wack and feels too much like I'm playing with pic related. Not to say that the system by the end of G1 was much better (this can be debated, to each their own, I think it was). Bionicle fell off when the Technic label was removed from the packaging, they should have moved in the direction of the Rahi or the early Star Wars Technic builds from 2002 ish to adapt to a maturing fanbase, shit could be on a gunpla level by now if lore and design had taken a turn to the more technical

Personally I like CCBS when integrated with Technic but I agree. Early G1 was amazing, it's a shame as the line went on the sets began to have less and less detail and the line became clogged with one-time-use molds. ESPECIALLY with the weapons.

The only CCBS mixed with technic that comes to mind is the Skull Scorpion. He looked as crappy as the filler trap in the Karzahni set. Plus LoSS but he isn't what I'd call better.

I've been thinking about doing just that to be honest. I'm hesitant to mess with any chromed parts since they take months for Aurimax to get to, but I might try it out with some extras and see how it goes.

I'm pretty sure Aurimax's parts are chromed in a vat (probably by electroplating) so that's not really feasible unless the transparent parts of a piece were covered before chroming, but even then the result wouldn't be pretty. I've been thinking about ordering a part in chrome silver and painting with thin layers of transparent gloss paint to achieve a gold/blue mix but I'm not sure how it'll look. If I have time to try it out I'll post results.

Remember every form of media (books,comic,webisodes) all contradicted one another on a lot of things and a lot of plotpoints that the designers intended weren't even properly shown through these few medias. That one designer said it was intended to be canon (shown by kulta glowing and growing in the webisode) in that one random YT vid so I consider it canon.

I'll give them credit and say this does look better than the prior Vader, if only because the cape has been streamlined, the waist-cape is pretty awesome, and the technic bits are less glaringly obvious. The armor shaping is also better, and the neck area looks a lot less awkward once its covered up by the cape and chain.

He's probably the best one this wave, being the only one who has any new molds besides the head (which thanks to the smooth top can be used in mocs with some creative integration) and a few useful recolors.
On the other hand his function nearly doesn't work at all and only swings the weapon around by barely an inch and it's still yet another Star Wars Inika-build CCBS-Edition with a few differences here and there that is at least five bucks overpriced.

I found a complete Nui-Rama set and a couple of old Turagas quite cheap. Also I’m making a deal to get both Jaller and Takua titan sets from 2003 (?). The first few years, before Metru Nui are most nostalgic to me. As a kid I still bought like 1 of each set up to Inika, though.

The old Turaga look great. Part of the appeal of early Bionicle is how Technic everything looks. Later releases are always very sleek and arguably make for better toys, but the old sets have that archaic charm that can’t be beaten.

There would be no point in making an action oriented Technic theme when LEGO does already have a full system for that niche (CCBS, of course, which still is a sub-theme of Technic).

Also the market is not necessarily weak, but rather it was LEGO who handled terribly G2 and didn't invest in CCBS in general (few new molds since 2011=kids are building basically the same humanoid shape with the same pieces=interest declines). This may actually be a hint to LEGO's last attempt at making CCBS profitable.

This new blade is also weird in that it seems to attach via a Technic axle, rather via a System pin.
There's been something similar in the past, which is pic related and was also introduced by Ninjago in 2012 as propeller blades for an helicpoter. It also makes for an amazing katana for large figures and has been used as such by various sets (even in HF).
This new blade is much more specfic though, and doesn't look like a vehicle part at all. It looks like it was specifically designed as an actual weapon.

It could for sure (hence I wrote "seems to"), but Lego sets usually don't have System male parts directly attach to Technic female parts (of course MOCers do this all the time).
Also, if the blade ended in a System pin it would freely spin and fall off more easily. Lego sets are designed to be as sturdy as possible so that wouldn't be the best solution.
And finally, if you look at the blade hilt you can see the connection point is very thick, which implies a Technic axle connection.

A lot of knights kingdom leg armor looks great on bonkles. They also have a 2x3 brick sided connection on them, so you can fit black pins in the 2 tubes inside.

Pulled a few sets out of storage, including my old Exo-Toa. Crazy thing, a ton of its parts have fractured out of nowhere. A lot of them are parts with rods through them, almost looks like the rods were too big.

Guess I'll be ordering a ton of new pieces before I bother taking this guy apart again. Anyone seen extensive damage like that before?

Yes and you can blame the parts design for that.
Basically almost every axle hole connector is designed with a slightly thicker part in the middle that gives the part its clutch power and some safety holes on the sides in case you're insane enough to try something like the rifle of that Exo Force combiner so you can get the rod out again with something pointy.
Thing is, all the stress is now concentrated on those four pegs next to the holes and over time they'll simply crack.
If you're "lucky" the top of the connector will crack instead which at least makes the part not completely useless.

So I saw an ldd moc of a Tohunga head statue but of course, the maker used parts in colors that don't even exist. Regardless, it inspired me to make my own version and I'm pleased with the results. I'll post more pics when it's finished, plus instructions if anyone is interested.

I bought a 20€ lot of old bonkles and to my surprise the seller just had decided to throw in pic related for free.
Somehow I’ve had this amazing luck with legos lately. Last week I found a big Drome Racers racetrack complete from a thrift store.

Thanks for the input. I still need to find a white Miru mask for the Toa of Ice and I need to find a set with Vakama's Metru mask for the Toa of Fire. I'll be heading to my local flea market today to the one building that has a huge shelf full of Bionicles to see what I can find.
