Core Magnus is a fantastic standalone robot so you definitely should consider the likelyhood that you'll just leave him out of the armour 24/7, but if you're into power up armour gimmicks as a concept alone he's pretty well worth it.
The color matching isn't as bad with the LG version. The blues and reds match and the dark red ab plate doesn't look out of place on the LG version's overall redder color scheme. The murky blue bits meant for the CW version don't stand out anywhere near as much as you'd think on the LG version.
I think I could recommend him, especially now that LG Ultra Magnus is easier to find with the reissue coming soon. You could probably skip getting the X2toys kit but the face swaps and better hand articulation are a little hard to live without.
If you decide not to get Ultra Magnus entirely I'd still highly recommend getting at least one version of this Upgrade kit, though, it's a fucking blast. I even have the black version pre-ordered.
