Someone has mentioned this before but there all the major websites have removed those images and they do come up pretty often in these threads, so it's still a handy gallery to have around. It will be removed once everything in there gets officially shown.

Nope, check the link, they're from yesterday. It appears to be two new ones besides the Megatron and Brawl we've already seen, looks like we're also getting a new Prime and a new Starscream.

In this time of weapons big empty seats in them, anyone else miss mechtech-style weapons? Some were shit, of course, but the good ones were really good. I particularly like Bee's blaster, Optimus' gun axe, and TFP Ultra Magnus' gun hammer. They felt like the kind of weapons that transforming robots ought to have.

$150 would have been the maximum I'd pay for it. Looks like I won't be collecting BW MP after all. I'll sell Cheetor and only keep Primal because it's so iconic.

Its looking more than likely mp dinobot will actually cost as much as he's touted currently, he is supposedly larger than primal, perhaps by something like pic related although personally keeping him around voyager size or slightly bigger would suffice (considering mp g1 bumblebee is pathetically tiny he isn't even in proper scale with other mp car bots).

The cost breakdown is easy enough to work out, along with size there is engineering complexity (not mp36 but he looks involved), led's, the tail weapon spins (if its motorized via batteries it would make so much sense but I suspect its just push button type) and the sculpt seeing how he supposedly has molded scales, I also have a theory on the cost increase, maybe they realized the Vietnam quality they have isn't doing them favors and they moved factories back to china or just hired more competent staff to do qc checks but that's wishful thinking.

I'll have to cancel some pre-orders, maybe even mp black convoy (I have mp10 do I need him in gloss black?) but I do desire mp beast wars figures.

Who knows, what they learn from dinobot could go towards an mp beast megatron, he won't look as good as that prime one statue but with sculpted scales the prospect of him having a menacing tyrano mode is looking mighty fine.

Well the only good ones are the ones that either lock in place when they're transformed or ones like Bee's blaster there that can be held open by posing.

Integrated weapons are for sure one of my favorite things, but they're so rare. It's a shame.

Wow, it's fucking nothing.

On the other hand, if Takara did get absorbed by Hasbro, the brand would go to shit so quickly that TF as a Hasbro-controlled entity would most likely die, and either someone who knows what they're doing would take up the license, or we'd get a new age of 3P figures as they move in to replace the now-deceased official license holders.

So either Takara (and occasionally 3P) will continue to always win, or Hasbro will lose so hard that they (or at least the TF department) stop existing.

Look into other news of other takeovers. Their was one leak of the Disney Marvel one in August 2008, it be a whole year before we heard anymore news and that was from the buyout.
All this said Takara is suffering in a bad way in sales and your futures might be either the Jap side of TFs is dead and gone or Hasbro finishes what they stated a decade ago and simply buyout Takara.

Hasbro has been successfully running the Transformers brand for decades. Just because YOU don't like the mass retail toys doesn't mean it's bad business. They still make MILLIONS selling MILLIONS of toy units. Your favorite 3P would be lucky to move 1% of Hasbro's numbers. There's a reason why no 3P company has actual full time staff.

Define "successfully". Gutting their creative team and slowly losing profits doesn't sound very successful to me.

But it is, that's just it. 20% of the brand's profits comes from collectors. If Hasbro gets much cheaper with their production quality they'll lose most of their collector base, and no doubt a large chunk of the kids as well. The fall in profits would be enormous and would probably destroy Transformers as a Hasbro-owned property for good.

I'm not sure abut that, mostly because of the toys to life experiment, it lasted just a couple of years and now the 2 bigger brands (Disney and Lego) are out of it, Disney even relaunched the line as traditional articulated figures reusing some of the same sculpts.

Disney was late to the party and their toys2life model was not well executed. It had a wide variety of characters and the level building aspect going for it, but the lack of ability to mix genres in the levels kind of killed it for most people.

Dimensions had potential, but I think overall people weren't willing to spend the money on lego minifigs, a few bricks, and electronic chips for the pricepoint when they could just buy lego sets.

Skylanders has been pretty strong because each new game has added a new play element to it. 2nd game added giants, 3rd added characters with mixable parts, then I forget if the trap mechanic or vehicles came next.

Basically, the reason these other T2L lines are failing is because they are basically starting at baseline. You need to do something new and innovative with it at the start (like that new one with the actual articulated figures and cards) or start out with all the things skylanders can already do (base characters, swappable parts, vehicles, etc.)

I would argue MP-01 suffered all that to a great degree. It suffered some serious breaking issues in the hinges to the chest, ankles, and what not, the yellow paint on both versions was prone to rub off and they used a weak chrome vac paint that can age very poorly. Also look at this thing, the waist to legs looks awful, the head is way to big, the feet look way to narrow, it's certainly aged poorly when compared to what gets made MP wise now.

For starters he has less in common with the TV model, comic model or even toy of the 80s when compared to the MP-10, he looks like they were trying to reinvent the wheel with MP-1 and looking at MP-3 and MP-5 that might have been the goal. Eh, I have Hasbro's version of the old one (MP03-based Skywarp) and he holds up pretty well next to the MP-11 mold. He's also pretty damn cheap these days (there are a couple of looses at the ~30 mark on Ebay atm), so I'd totally recommend getting it instead of waiting for an MP Skywarp that will never come.

My issue is he aesthetically wouldn't match up (mostly due to the legs and skirt kibble, wouldn't be an issue if I started with the mp3 mold but I didn't), my OCD even prevents me from buying the knock off that has the correct tampos on the wings (because lack of faction symbols and stickers are a pet peeve of mine plus transformation has been altered)

Anyway, I only bought that seeker mold once, the MP-11T version of Thundercracker. The shade of blue is gorgeous. I didn't realize the black nosecone was inaccurate to the cartoon, but it looks way better than being all blue, anyway, so fuck accuracy.

I dunno, I'm a pretty big anti-sunbow fag, but I think the mold is pretty good. I mean, the only place that would truly benefit from sculpted detail is the shins, and the tampos on Artfire makes up for a lot of that (although it would still look better with the sculpting from the toy).

Maybe that opinion comes from owning the mold, and being willing to make concessions. The transformation, proportions, posability, and overall presence of the figure are excellent, so I can't really find myself getting too buttmad that it missed a chance for sculpted details here and there.

Why does Prowl's door say "HIGHWAY PATROL" like on the toy and not in the cartoon? Why is Bluestreak's paintjob based on the toy and not the cartoon? Why are almost all of the weapons based more on their toy models instead of their cartoon models? Soundwave in particular is way more similar to his toy in terms of sculpted detail and color, especially on his shoulders, which are toy-accurate and not cartoon accurate. Rumble and Frenzy are named after their toy colors instead of the show colors. Why are Wheeljack's forearms and thighs black like the toy instead of gray like the cartoon? Why are his windows tinted gray instead of blue? Why are his wings transparent like the toy and not opaque gray like the cartoon? Why is his entire paintjob lifted from the toy and not the cartoon? Why is Bumblebee's alt. mode shaped realistically? That's not accurate to the toy OR the cartoon. Even Tracks, who is more recent, has a leg transformation that flips the Corvette fenders around front of his shins, which is completely inaccurate, but was done simply because it looks good.

Compare all of this to literally every detail on current MPs looking EXACTLY like the cartoon at ANY cost. The fact that you think there's no difference between the old aesthetic and the current is troubling.

You got blown out the last thread: those aren't toy accurate, they're accurate to the real vehicle. Why can't you can't accept that the toys have almost no bearing on the Masterpiece line and it's retarded to keep wanting it to infect them? Collect the original bricks if you jerk off over them so much. Nobody looks at the Masterpiece line and sees the original toys except you.

Was searching images on google to make comparisons, these three came up all together. Honestly, some minor things aside, MP Wheeljack looks way more like an idealized version of the toy artwork than he does the cartoon model.

Ironhide / Ratchet, Inferno / Grapple / Artfire and Sunstreaker all turn into realistic vehicles and also all suffer from the same lack of greeble and detail.

I wasn't even in the last thread, so clearly there's more than one person that is correct, too.

The windows are shaped like the toy, which are shaped like the actual truck. To be based on one is to be based on the other, there's no fucking hierarchy here. In fact, since MP-10 isn't even licensed by Freightliner, there was literally no incentive for them to make the windows that shape, except to evoke the original toy.

Inferno and his kin aren't based on anything real so Takara can futz with the aesthetic however they want and Sunstreaker looks like shit so who actually gives a fuck.

The problem here is that you can't differentiate the level to which the accuracy is being pursued now. You honestly cannot say with a straight face that the level of cartoon accuracy on MP-10 and MP-36 are the same. They don't even look good together.

Nobody every said older MPs weren't based on the cartoons. We just recognize there was a clear difference in how strict they were about emulating things.
