I liked em alright and bought a whole bunch, but like, yeah, they were pretty impressive for what they managed to pull off, and they tended to give us stuff for which there was no other merch (Darkstalkers is a good example), but for the most part, they paled in comparison to bigger figures/statues, and I'd much rather pay more for something genuinely nice on my shelf than something that's "good looking for a 200 yen gashapon."
I still think gashapon is in a good place these days though. There are lots of super interesting and bizarre concepts, and I can confidently say the worksmanship is great on at least 80% of the stuff I buy (and I buy regularly, at least 1-2 gasha orders a month).
