But seriously. One of the malls near where I live once had a claw machine years back with the 6” wide Angry Birds plushies. The funny part was that the ball-shaped plushies were JUST a smidge smaller in diameter than the claw when it clutched all the way. Once I lined up the claw it was like shooting fish in a barrel, cleaned out the damn thing with very few failures. At $0.50 a try I was able to get a shit ton after spending less than what it would have cost to buy only a few of the same type of plushies in a retail store.

Depends on what's in it, and whether or not the claw is actually capable of lifting stuff. A lot of times the claw is flimsy garbage that'll drop everything, but sometimes there's a good claw that you can actually grab stuff with if you know what you're doing. I kick ass at claw machines though, there's one at my last job and my current job and I play the hell out of them, won a Mario last week on my first try.

Nonetheless there was one time where a claw machine at a red robin had animal crossing plushies, ones that sell for about 20 dollars+ nowadays, but the fucking crane machine didn't work at all. I was so mad.

I've been trying to get those Sugar Loaf llamas any time I see them but they're always in the absolute worst spots in the machine (stuck in corners or just buried under other shit) and they never have anything to try to hook the claws to. It also doesn't help that the grocery store machine has the odds of a full grab set ridiculously low.

These are the only two I've managed to get so far.

I have won a ton of plush toys out of machines on the boardwalk. I believe this summer alone I won around 20 things from crane machines. They're almost always licensed characters since the generic ones are always a rip off and cost about 35 cents while sometimes that Nintendo plush or Futurama plush is worth a little bit more. I've gotten mostly Nintendo plush, like Pokemon, Mario, or Splatoon squiddos. I also found a machine that was a winner almost every time and would jokingly spend the last 50 cents to win from it at the end of the night, sadly it only had FFaF shit in it so I have 4 or 5 Chica plush just sitting on top of my fridge in my kitchen because I have no other place for them and throwing them in the trash is a waste.

Funny enough, I got them both on the same day and that's AFTER probably around a year's worth of grocery store visits and around $50 total spent over that time. My god was that ever a satisfying day to not only finally get one, but to get TWO of the cute little bastards.

I used to work at six flags, and would sometimes be stationed near that game where you throw rings onto bottles. The only prizes were these HUGE plushes, sometimes they'd be gigantic alpacasso rip-offs, but the giant spongebob was probably one of the biggest plush they'd put out. I'd see people sink a ton of money into several buckets of rings, and never win anything, while some just got lucky with the standard 5. Pretty amazing to see that those huge plushes were actually winnable, just incredibly rare.

before GameWorks closed down, I used to play a lot. There were times I would get 4 plushes in one try and end up giving away all my prizes because of how many I would get. The last time I went, I almost cleaned out a machine on $20 but the employees stopped me and threatened to kick me out unless I stopped playing that machine.

it's been maybe 3 years since I've played one, and only played because my date and I were buzzed and waiting to be seated at Norm's after a night of clubbing.
