It was the year Lego introduced this piece. Why was this bad? Because more than any other socket before, this one snapped way too fucking much. And it was just the beginning of bad decisions in the production.
The Piraka in 2006 introduced new shades of white, blue, brown and green? Never used again, instead here are new Toa with ugly “organic” masks. And translucent sockets, so even more brittle.
2007 brought Lime green sockets that were even more fragile than any other socket color, and the Toa Mahri, who were just balls to the wall weird.
2008 started decently, but still more fragility and the cursed “Av-Matoran” build which when compared to previous Matoran was paltry as a buildable toy. And the Summer was a nightmare of design. The Toa looked awful, the Makuta’s masks looked nothing like regular Kanohi, and the Vehicles, what an omen.
2009 brought even more brittle plastic, lazy Matoran (now Agori) builds, and vehicles out the wazoo.
And it all culminated with six crappy crappy little sets. The only positive out of those six being Nektann, so you could finally armor up a Muaka and give it a canon Rider.
And then with the reboot, the classic aesthetic everyone loved did not make a comeback, and it’s not like I don’t find a bit of enjoyment out of the CCBS style, but it’s not Bionicle. It worked for giving Hero Factory a unique look, but it wasn’t Bionicle. Plus the story sucked.
