>>6651321 If you like the design, it's probably about the best you're going to get short of Bandai throwing together a DX Chogokin of it. It's a little clunky, not going tolie, but overall it's fairly impressive for what they were trying to do and at the size they're trying to do it at. The VF-2 is just one of those designs that fundamentally doesn't cooperate with an actual 3d representation.
Anonymous
Anonymous
>>6651326 That's what's making it a hard choice, I do like the design and I do like it even more run through the Obari filter.
>>6651329 I can't wait to see what bullshit price tag they attach to this.
Anonymous
>>6651336 If you can afford it, I'd say go for it. Given how in demand it seems to be you should be able to flip it pretty easily at worst. I won't lie, the legs in particular are kind of fiddly and the arms and legs just sort of lock together in fighter mode with nothing really locking them in to the body except big beefy heavy diecast joints. The SAP connection to the body is a single long tab into the backpack and then just sort of clamping over the sides, but it actually works better than you'd expect.

I am having second thoughts about the 0080 ANIME line. Both NT1 and Zaku Kai's faces look kind of ugly.

I would say the 0080 ANIME line might be on par with L Gaim in terms of sculpt accuracy, so a bit lower than Patlabor and Dunbine.
The Gyan looks gorgeous!
I still need more MSVs!

>>6651628 Oh shit Gyan finally! Not much left for 0079 now with these two; the Zeong, Zock, Ball and the Core Booster are all we can expect unless we get more support vehicles or a mobile armor. I hope the Zeong is retail at least as the rest probably will be exclusives.

Anonymous
>>6651674 Johnny Ridden and Matsunaga Zakus have a high chance.
I hope their knee bend aren't just 90 degrees like the Zaku Marine.
Anonymous
>>6651600 >that ANIME charm Honestly, I wasn't even happy with 0079 on that front. I didn't want them to go full-on "let's take the very worst frames possible and run with those," but I wanted the proportions a LITTLE more wonky, ya know? Something like this, that really reminds me of 0079, but a little more refined and with super articulation. The ANIME RDs are very nice, I own a few and love them, but they feel a little too "safe" and modern for me sculptwise. It feels like they were a little too afraid to push it a little further.
There are so many safe interepretations of these suits out there already, it would have been great to see this sort of thing in the modern era for once.
Anonymous
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>6651692 Yeah. I'd have loved them to push them out a bit more too, I always thought the Zaku was a bit too normal and not as rounded as it appeared in the show.
I did feel the engineering choices were just as much a part of the line though.
Both of these I'm not really getting through the Alex and Zaku Kai. Hope it's just a couple of lazy releases and the good stuff comes out for the Zeta suits.

>>6651692 I felt that the Gundam and GM were a bit deviating, but everything else were pretty spot on with a few modern proportional adjustments.
With regards to the 0080 ANIME feeling odd, I think it is because every design post 0079, including Zeta, ZZ, CCA, 0080, are not too distinctively different from the 2000s interpretations.
I think we are too used to 0080 designs being represented in the late 90s modern MG style and forgot whether they could look fine being in an anime clean form.
Don't forget that 0079 First Gundam designs are the ones with the most number of "distinct" renditions, from MG, HGUC, GFF and every toyline out there. When we see things from Zeta and onwards, we don't really see too much of a distinction between different toys.
This is because, 1979 First Gundam was a completely independent style, and one of the few retro styles worthy of being well recognised and preserved.
80s lineart of Zeta, 0080 etc don't feel too different from 90s-2000s model kit lineart.
Anyway, here is a super lineart accurate 1/60 custom of the Zaku.
Anonymous
Quoted By:

Does anyone else get the feeling that Metal RD and Hi-Metal R are aimed to replace the regular RD line? It seems like Tamashii just keeps shifting more to a high price, niche market strategy. Also curious if we'll see any TRI stuff later, or if that ended up dead on arrival. I'd like to see a line at a lower price with more variety in the types of shows they pursue.

Anonymous
>>6652419 No. Metal RD has basically been an afterthought to get more money out of an existing mold most of the time. Hi-Metal R seems mostly for transforming toys that wouldn't work as RDs, or in the case of Dougram, that they think are simply too niche to bother making more than the lead robot for. We got the Roundfacer but I'll be pretty surprised if we get anything else.

Ditto for the HMR line, which has exploded with releases. Though the pricer sublines won't overshadow RDs, I can see Bandai giving them more and more attention going forward. >>6655651 DX Chogokins aren't entirely painted, and for a transforming toy that's really for the best otherwise you run into all sorts of issues with tolerances and paint chipping. What Arcadia and Bandai do, in lieu of painting the entire valk, is use quality, matte-finished plastic for the construction. It's really gives a nice premium feel to the valk and looks great. Bandai one-ups Arcadia's standard releases by adding a ridiculous amount of tampo printed detail to their valks as well.
Originally, Bandai used a gloss finish for their DX Chogokin valks (like with the VF-25S here; I actually feel the gloss kinda works for Frontier valks), but all their releases since the VF-19 Advance have had the nicer matte finish. Thus, the VF-1J will likely follow suit. DX Chogokins are really good toys and have all been quite reasonably priced (assuming you get it at MSRP), so as
>>6655658 said you'll probably be quite happy with it. My one concern about the potential DX VF-1J would be the price; it's going to be very large at 1/35 scale and it has working lights. The size and electronic components could make for a particularly pricey valk.
What is it about the Arcadia valks that put you off?
Anonymous
>>6655676 From what I understand, there are much better VF-1S in the market, but at the price ($60 in burger because of a markup), I think it was a fair grab. Needed to muck around with it a bit, but now the transformation is all rather smooth. Great paint job, free stand? All a good buy and it looks great on my desk.
I'll send some pics later when my break allows.
Anonymous
>>6656900 From what i see, the 1/35 back then and the one they showed yesterday are entirely different. The VF-1J from the event uses the same action base with the VF-35 valks (while the 1/35 use a different action base), has different proportion and is going to be in 1/48 scale

Found some slightly clearer pictures from the Italian gokin collectors. First up, VF-1J. It's clearly not the same figure that was shown off a couple of years ago. Doesn't have any panel lining or weathering, which is a bit shit given how good the last prototype looked. Also no evidence of working lights, which is a shame. So got my VF-2SS today. Not entirely sure how I feel about it. Its really neat how well integrated the super parts are compared to the VF1, with its hardpoints being completely hidden when not equipped, it has quite a bit more range of motion, and its certainly beautiful looking. But fuck, it feels like almost nothing locks into place at all, and the couple pieces that actually are supposed to have shit tolerances. The forearms pop open way too easily, the cockpit canopy refuses to stay in position to completely cover the cockpit and one of the hinges on the chest has so much extra flash left coating it I worry about it stressing the piece its connected to. The VF1s feel rock solid in comparison for almost half the price.

>>6664406 >I know very little about Votoms And apparently even less about Fang of the Sun Dougram...
>>6664487 I've been prevaricating over whether to pick it up or not. Looked pretty plastic-y and cheap in Nuu's review, but then I've seen other reviews and pictures where it looks more like its ¥14k price tag. Not sure whether to just wait for the Nexx Gilbert version or not...

>>6664573 Hahaha, oops. I swear I know the difference between the two, I had Votoms on the mind cause I was debating buying the Converge Bloodsucker at HLJ. But yeah, I'm pretty equally ignorant on both Votoms and Dougram. I just happen to own some figures/kits from both series cause I think they've got rad designs.

>>6664573 Well, its definitely not perfect but the only other alternative is the evolution toy version, which other than having the antenna on the SAP pack, looks much worse and is built of some real shitty plastic from what reviewers say.
I think the red trim looks much better but if you don't care about the color the Nexx version should come with a second gun, which is much cooler than missile pods that only open their bays with part-swapping.

So what's the deal with this "Quanum Burst Type Regular" mode? Is it like the PG Unicorn's pointless "third" mode. The designers just got bored and wanted to add a feature that never existed in the source material?

>>6664815 It looks less retarded and you have less chance of breaking your expensive figure?

>>6664815 >that never existed in the source material It "technically" exists (for a split second in the anime), and that's usually enough reason for Bandai to milk a design.
The same thing happened with Astray, which only appears in SEED's opening songs.
