Looks like they're trying to capitalise on people's discontent towards Hobbylink Japan. They've already started to get the vast majority of my custom since HLJ forced people to either sign up with a credit card or enter a Paypal billing agreement.

you can set a credit card for payment,
you can set that payment to not use paypals BS exchange rate.
Ok ,all is done and set. works fine , tested

then out of no where BAM! new transaction process all used Paypals BS exchange rate.

I prefer payment requests. Having the money pulled out of my current account without warning isn't my favourite thing in the world, especially when rolling dice on lines like Mafex that can be months late and released completely without warning. A payment request at least lets me move money into the right account at my leisure.

I thought HLJ used Gointerpay for their currency conversion? I don't know the exact math but last I checked it was better than Paypal's default rates.

The idea that amiami will ban you if you cancel anything has always been exaggerated. It takes a LOT before they'll get onto you about it and even then, they'll warn you about it before actually banning you. Maybe they're slightly stricter, it would be hard to judge, but HLJ do exactly the same thing to people who cancel too many items.

This new feature is likely just to make things easier for their customer support guys, you be able to cancel things without having to email them, but if you abuse it, you're gonna get the same outcome.

They are much more flexible if you aren't cancelling stupidly expensive figures or order plenty to be worth keeping your custom.

I'd rather get a request and pay for it then have money taken out without warning. Mandarake has a billing agreement too (you link your PP account the moment you first use it) but they still ask you to confirm your payments on every order.

I've only had three cancellations in 7 years.

One I changed my mind and let the invoice lapse, and two due to forced EMS shipping of preordered products.

I think it should still be total value, rather than individual item value. I know that cdjapan has an individual item value limit.

Fromjapan used to be 6000 yen total value for small packet, now they've changed it to 20k or so.

HLJ kind of has a hidden total limit too for SAL. I think it is 15k ish.

I bet most instabans were from failure to pay. I've cancelled a few orders, two from missing payment but I buy a lot. I'm guessing this system is more in line for cancelling before payment is due.
