I skipped the second wave of Ultra Agents but looking back I regret it. I'm sure I have enough mixel joints and parts to knock out a decent enough mech for her, but the agent armor and helmets look kinda nice too. I guess it does have their logo on the side so reusability is a bit harder without resorting to dark heresy.

The roller coaster does look nice, but I think the one I'm most looking forward to is the (much much cheaper) skate/arcade. Hell, might have to buy a couple because on its own it's a tad too small.

You get a lot more variety with the normal ones, to be honest. Anything we get is useful in its own way, some figs more than others, but I do prefer the usual line. Especially since for awhile they had it nearly synced up with the holidays. I kind of liked the spooky theme arriving September.

The dark green Ford Mustang is done up with stickers to make it look like a modern Historic Rally Car, but the color of it is also a tribute to the car chase from the movie "Bullet".(Which is why I'm looking to buy one.)

The more modern Rally Car is another Ford, this is one being the Fiesta WRC done up in the corporate colors of M-Sport, the company that basically is in charge of Ford's entire rallying program. (They just so happened to have just won both the driver and constructor world titles in the World Rally Championship this year, which is probably why the set is being made.)

The Porsche 2-car pack features an old 911, probably the IROC special edition from the early 1970's judging from the color and the newest GT Lemans car, the 911 RSR. The other Porsche is the overall Le Mans winner from this year, the 919 Hybrid LMP1-H prototype.

The single Ferrari is another GT Le Mans car based on the 488 and the 3-car Ferrari package seems to have another one done up in a different color scheme, possibly one based on a real-life team. The classic Ferrari in the 3-pack is a 1962 250 GTO (Notable because one example sold at an auction this year for $55 Million), while the F1 car looks like the 1979 312T4.

The whole line was actually designed more or less by the usual suspects like Mark Stafford (model designer for Ninjago, Nexo Knights, etc) or Matt Betteker (concept artist for stuff like Bionicle G2, Hero Factory, etc).
They just didn't have to hold back this time and could show what they actually can do when they're not forced to create a shitty jeep with two stud shooters on the sides for Batman or Captain America to drive.

Fortrex is awesome. The little battlesuits are pretty great, and easily modded into bigger mechs. After that it's pretty much a question of what makes a good parts pack, to me anyway, so kind of hit and miss.

More miss than hit and basically a more kiddier, light hearted version of Ninjago (somehow).
Some sets like the King's Mech, Fortrex or the tiny battle suits are brilliant but then you have stuff like the Rumble Maker, Thunder Mace and the recent Rolling Arsenal where they completely dropped the ball.
It's undeniable that the sets have a certain early 90s Space set influence but the thing is that it seems like the designers don't understand WHY those sets had a simple, angular aesthetic so some vehicles, especially support ones end up looking awfully poor and not up to the standards of recent other lines.

This, eh, last year's offerings were probably the worst offenders due to the theme being ruins-based enemies and yet there was only a single small model of a ruin across the entire two waves and that one even was a store-exclusive.
The latest wave drops pretty much any traces of being a Castle theme and flat out embraces what it is: a Space theme without any spacefaring.

Some of them are a good start, like they're meant to be finished by the kid playing with it; IMO the Rolling Arsenal needs a better top and rear, and a cheater wheel on each side instead of just the one in the middle, then it would be really neat.

It's an issue of printing bright colors on dark surfaces in general and it gets especially noticeable when the light printing is supposed to represent something that's been molded elswhere in that color on the figure.

The Lobo figure for example looks like he's wearing a skin tight grey shirt.

This set isn't that bad. I've seen it priced from $20-25. For $25 it does look unfinished with the guns up exposing all those studs and two technic beams that are the body of it.

They really forced the vehicles that look like weapons and it's hard to make a mace car in that budget range. It looks much better with guns down and I'm sure kids had fun with the guns popping up and shooting crap everywhere. They could have easily fixed it by having the guns rotate outward like the 'jets' on the ninjago movie dragon, but that wouldn't be a 'play feature'.

I am kinda pissed that they keep giving Macy the smallest sets. Drop bot dragon was an insane value at $15, but I like her color, emblem and weapon the best. We don't need more huge lime green shit. I still liked it better than both of lance's robo horses and both of aaron's generic rock fuckers, and what the actual fuck is Axl's rumble maker supposed to even be?

The transformation is neat, but the bike looks aweful IMO and the horse suffers for it. I liked the smaller horse better, but I can't fault them for at least trying something different. I've found most of the other vehicles to be pretty typical, uninspired lego stuff. It's too bad the theme might be ending now that they've moved on from vehicles within vehicles to mechs within vehicles and mechs within mechs.

That was on thanksgiving. Toys R Us had a sale on the a wing but it was only on their Ebay listing which had the lowest price. The community over on /r/legodeal is pretty good with updating on sales. The site brickseek.com is also good if you are near any Walmarts. You can search to see if specific Walmart stores near you are discounting sets and use the Walmart app to set an order for pickup or if your able to just drive there and look for them.

It's especially interesting how some of the details on the finished models are actually "dummied out" functions from the earlier planning stages.
Those discs on the Quake Mech's forearms were supposed to be wheels so it could go into some sort of vehicle mode by laying down and the Ice Tank didn't have its odd side cannon.

Not really, you just have to be aware of what you're doing.

Sure, as a collector it's tempting to buy all the sets released yearly, but eventually there's going to be ones that you don't really care for anymore.

Instead of letting them clutter shelves it's better to just store them, take them apart and store them for parts or outright sell/donate them to charity. The whole "they might be useful/look better in the future, so I'll keep it even though I have limited space" mentality is what turns a collector into a hoarder.

A couple of months back my dad asked me to pick up two differently colored mountain climbers if I ever see some somewhere. So I gifted him this MOC for Christmas now.
It's the first time I actually planned out a build in advance and then bought the pieces I needed.
I wanted some scenery around the climbers, but it had to be easy to build, as I wanted it to be like a real set. It came disassembled in a box with instructions and everything.

I had some room in the back of the mountain, so I made a little Yeti hideout, complete with bed, lamp and a TV. I found the lamp idea online and had to include it.
My dad loved it and it got me into Bricklink. Big success all around.

my family are kind of hoarders and i have similar tendencies, i totally agree people should watch out if they have trouble throwing out or changing small trivial things. I'm lucky that i don't really care about sets, only have two or three displayed (crammed into a bookshelf) at the time. But i make an exception for mocs and work in progress builds. I love having them out and about so i can fiddle with them whenever i have an idea or my hands want something to do, I really do enjoy just picking them up and looking at them. The biggest problem is working on many projects at the same time and not always having time for(feeling like) cleaning up when you have to pull out the parts again shortly after.

It's not cyclopean so much as one of the lenses is closed (this isn't the greatest angle to show the opened panels over the 2 lenses).

Ear hose might end up being a longer cable plugging into the rifle, but that's not even mocked up yet.

It's basically a very Godannar-inspired sniper mech, probably some Widowmaker as well.

I'm thinking tabi-style feet with a pile driver heel and one between the toes for stability, and some kind of weirdly-split hand, possibly double thumbed.

there is not that much to work with in Pokemon theme.
You can only make famous trio minifigures. 1 or two stadium sets and bad looking brick-build pokemon with possibly 1 single piece as their heas so they will look more appealing.

I'm not even a bonklefag, it's just the truth. Both Bionicle AND Star Wars were a success and helped Leg to get out of the financial crisis of the late 90s/early 2000s (a period when Lego clearly had no idea what the fuck were they doing), but Star Wars alone wouldn't save Lego from bankcruptcy, due to the required royalty payments to Lucasfilm. Bionicle was an original IP that wasn't as costly for Lego to produce and became an instant success, and was the best-selling Lego theme until Ninjago came out (mind you, 10 years after Bionicle's launch and year after its cancellation).

You may not like because it's "not muh bricks" but if it wasn't for Bionicle, it's possible that there wouldn't even be a buildable toy company you would will to pump your money into.

Nice legs. Though the shape of the calves bothers me a little, I think instead of having them taper I'd try to define a shape for the calf muscle, like pic related.

Guys if you buy ANY LEGO from Walmart you have to open it up and check the contents even if you are not currently building it. I used to buy a bunch of stuff online till I tried getting some stuff at Walmart. These people resealed the box packaging and and even the bags with a machine while I was left with missing pieces and no mini figures. For now on everything I get from In person or online I will check through personally. I worry how many sets I accumulated that could be stolen from the same way.

I think you're right about the shape - it was easier to get the back of the calf to be gapless with the 4x16 wedge since the sides taper in as well and it's a slope too shallow for wedge plates to seal nicely. I'll see if I can mess with it a bit.

Foot scaling is always a pain. Making them any bigger but keeping the contours kind of makes them clowny from the front :/

Thanks anon. I had extra figs of almost all of the first wave of the Ninja sets from back in the day, so using their heads to get a theme wasn't a big deal. That was an older photo as well; I've managed to get a couple more figures and hair pieces since then and I would upload more photos if my phone would stop being such a little bitch.

Do any anons here have ideas or particular thoughts on building things like lego trees, rocks, grasses, plants, houses/bungalows?

Personally I haven't built much of any of those things but I do think about it quite often and I'd like to try it out someday. As far as I am aware there are different ways to build trees, like different styles and such, I am wondering if some anons here may know more info on this sort of thing.

Depends on the scale. Mixel-style joints are really good for small things. Also check Nexo Knights-battle suits.

If you're going to go bigger, Bionicle-style joints work well. There's even some parts where those are integrated onto basic bricks. There's also CCBS-parts, which are pretty much updated catalog of old Bonkle-parts, and some bigger mech Lego puts out integrates some of the parts in the build.

you've got a lot of options - there's small and large ball joints, bionicle ball and socket parts, some technic clicky joints, several methods of just using clip and bar connections like this pic. might be worth looking through some flickr groups like this https://www.flickr.com/groups/930783@N21/ for ideas.

Yeah i really like your stuff man, we have totally different styles of 6-wide. Building cars is so addictive, i'm working on a whole bunch now. And as you mention that headpiece, i'm also down the rabbithole of having a eccentric taste for rare pieces.

I've readjusted this kitchen very slightly.
The sink now has better shaping, the table has adorable kitchy pink placemats now and I got some teapots. The 'plain classic lego smile' space family lives there. This is the only pic of it i'm not emberrassed about though. The baby got a cold or something.

I had one in parts because I received a box of spare parts as a kid. Once I saw him in the trailer, I knew I had to put him back together. Weird thing is that the arms that came with the torso I found was white with blue hands. Kind of a nice aesthetic, I must say, but I fixed it. Then I bought a red and white space man and they chill together with all of my space men.
