Acid Rain General: B2.Five Edition

Wow I've caught a passing glance at the B2.Five Acid Rain figures before but I only just now realized it's a goddamn build-a-figure line. Acid Rain has always been tempting for me but this hits all my sweet spots. The smaller size makes me happy too.

Are you talking about the 1/18 line? These are in the Acid Rain universe, but they're smaller (2.5in) and produced in a different factory, IIRC. Only the figures' heads and web gear are made of soft plastic.

Overall, they're surprisingly sturdy toys with a lot of play value. The figures can also swap hands, arms, heads, gear, etc. I have every set but the Stealth Stronghold, the Stealth Speeder, and the Marine Stronghold, and they're all fantastic with virtually no QC issues.

They're a little taller than Mega Bloks figures and a tiny bit shorter than Glyos main line figures. They can partswap with Mega Bloks, though, and scale well with Glyos in a "humans vs. aliens" way.

I imagine the figures could fit in the Hexa Gear vehicles, but I only have the Para-Pawn Sentinel, so I can't say for sure. The Sentinel is a little taller than the figures. Pic related.

The B2.five ones always looked too clean and... plamo-y? I dunno. The normal ones are much more weathered and gritty looking. But I'm jealous that the mainline Acid Rain line hasn't gotten Sand laurels, or tanks with fists. And I had no idea that they could be swapped around... that makes them tempting.

Thanks for making a general anon. Acid Rain has been picking up steam over the past few months and I think it could warrant it's own thread. A few of us got bitched at by the 1/18 guys the last time we made one.

The B.2 Five looks like a ton of fun, and I'm excited to finally be getting some Omangan vehicles.

I think Acid Rain needs its own thread. Its sporadic release schedule means it kind of gets lost in the 1:18 General.

The B.2 Five stuff isn't my chosen scale, but I think it actually might fit AR better than 1:18. The smaller scale allows for more vehicles, which is pretty important to the overall story.

Very glad to see some else thinks so. I actually typed up an /arg/ template about a year ago so if we decide to continue we could use that.

I also agree with your sentiments about B.2 Five. It seems like Kit has been having trouble with finding companies that want to produce the line as evidenced by the release drought for the past year and a half. B.2 Five looks to be remedying that by getting more product out for less money (I would assume based on the lack of the usual intricate paint work and size difference).

The situation kind of reminds of Ashley Wood's WWR and WWRp

I'm all for an /arg/. The brand's expanded a lot beyond the "main" 1/18 line, with B2Five, sofubi, and even prototypes of 1/12 and possibly 1/6 figures.

Looking at buying but I haven't done figures this small since I had hoes as a kid. This review is positive but can anyone else comment on the quality on the pilots? Are the mecha compatible with other toylines?

Just search YouTube for "b2five acid rain review" and watch everything you can find. Quality on the pilots looks good from what I've seen but the ball joints have a tendency to pop off a little. Don't believe the mecha is compatible with other toy lines, aside from similarly sized pilots obviously. But from other comments I've seen online maybe B2.Five will make non-Acid Rain this at this scale?

I'll have the Stealth Stronghold this week hopefully and will post my thoughts.

The pilot heads pop off too easily as the heads are rubber for some reason. Mega construx figures are smaller and do just fine. The big joints on the vehicles are really hard to get off. Those are my only two complaints so far though, and I'm incredibly glad I didn't listen to the lukewarm opinions from the 1:18 or bust people. The figures joints are all really solid and hold a pose great outside of the head. Hopefully the line gets enough love to keep going because the more molds you have the more fun it is. Laurel + stronghold builds are great to toy with.

Yeah I'm looking forward to buying a second vehicle but the Speeder is a little basic and I'm not into the "sand" color of the only current Laurel. Hoping pic related is the yellow "worker" class that it appears to be, that'll mix well with the Stealth colors.

There's a trick to removing the big joints from the vehicles. There are two static notches on the socket that correspond to two knobs on the joint. If you can line them up, you can remove the part with minimal effort. I've tried to circle them in pic related.

I didn't even know it was possible not to use the notches. It seems like it would damage the plastic otherwise. It sounds like mine just have worse tolerances than yours.

Definitely possible. One of my figures (the Laurel pilot) has a looser head than the others, so I imagine the production process isn’t perfect. Still, it could be much, much worse, and I’m not too worried about wear and tear—but we’ll have to see how things hold up long term.

Well personally, I was looking at the Sand Stronghold that comes with the speeder so it's a bit more and even though neither are expensive I'm at a spot after holiday shopping where I don't just have money to blow and would rather ask a stupid question to make sure I'm getting a hit than roll the dice.

I hear you. FWIW, the pilots are my favorite part of the line. They're crazy articulated for their size, can hold virtually any pose, and have lots of personality. The ab crunch and range of motion on the head really set them apart.

Bumping to keep this thread alive till I pick up my Stronghold at the post office. The leg articulation on these things are unreal—it almost looks like CGI where everything is conveniently cheating/floating/clipping but then you realize it's an actual plastic toy will all that unlimited nuanced movement.

Oops forgot to write things. I made some display enhancements with insulation foam and craft paints. And some rocks and fake moss. Will probably glue some sand or something down for texture at some point.

These things are the best. I've gotten everything currently available and have Wave 2 coming next week. I decided to completionist this line, and it keeps getting better. I've seen a lot of YouTube reviewers covering them, which makes me hopeful that the line will do well enough to get all the WiPs we've seen out to customers.
