The Hasbro Shared Universe was HASBRO'S retard baby, not IDW.
Hasbro DESPERATELY wants some of that "Cinematic Movie Universe" money given the number of 80s cartoon properties they own.
IDW (who only gives a shit about TF and to a lesser extent MLP and was outright forced to take on GI Joe) was ordered to buy the rights to MASK/ROM/Micronauts/Visionairies/Etc but given free reign to do whatever they wanted with them, so they could come up with ideas Hasbro could use for movie versions, who would spring forth from future GI Joe and TF movies.
Unfortunately, they raped MASK with SJW bullshit, salting the earth and rendering MASK radioactive and irrevocably DOA. This poisoned the well from day one for the shared universe and outed how far the SJW anti-life bullshit had spread in IDW. Furthermore, Transformer fans HATED the fact that the entire direction of the Transformers line was derailed by the shared universe, since they now had to buy those books to have a clue what was going on. Not to mention the fact that it drove off one of their top writers (the writer of Windblade and Till All Are One) who refused to engage in shilling the piss poor selling Hasbroverse books.
But the most notable failure was the fact that Hasbro did not force IDW to use the Shared Universe crap to reboot IDW GI Joe (which was unspeakably bad and unpopular). The only change they made was moving around the GI Joe timeline to have everything happen after All Hail Megatron to justify why the GI Joes weren't around then.
The Sitterson shit also came about around the time someone at Hasbro talked about "retooling GI Joe for millinnials", meaning that we REALLY dodged a bullet with regards to the GI Joe fandom's refusal to let Sitterson and the faggots (literal cock sucking faggots) at Bleeding Cool try and bully and slander them to ensure Rich the Bitch's pet snitch could wholesale remake GI Joe in his unholy image.
