Plus the rain checks I have for TR, I can get Octane, Blitzwing, Overlord, and/or Sixshot for better prices ($15 and $45 Canadian respectively)
Blitzwing and Sixshot might be harder to find, as stores are packed with Octanes and Overlords.

Still on the lookout for Hot Rod and Kup, but what would be a fun, QC-free, and affordable purchase - the best bang for my buck?

(Trypticon is also buy 2 get 1 free but I'd need 2 more people, and I might get yelled at if I buy a big thing like that)

of your list Sixshot and Overlord are the most playable/fun if you like playing with altmodes go Sixshot if you are wanting more of a fun playbase/playset go Overlord.
I can never recommend Octane or Blitzwing because of the sticker mess but if you must have one Blitzwing has more going on with his altmodes.

RiD is aimed at ages 4~9, they want to keep it simple for that age group. Also there isn't much of a western market for high end transformer collectables, the MP line never took off in the west and even reissue stuff of any kind struggles to get any market. And east isn't much better since Takara is financially struggling to stay out of the red.

like Hasbro's TFs the line breaks apart sets for age brackets. No idea the ranges but the combiners are on the far end. It's worth noting that Japan found Transformer prime toys complicated for their children so I wouldn't be shock if the combiners are aimed at tweens.

Monstructor wasn't made of Dinosaurs though, and the CW sets didn't sell that well.

Was he ever actually famous or did people just think he was Sammy Hagar from the similar voice and got disappointed? I don't believe I ever hear about this guy outside of his TF con appearances, nor did I ever hear about him back then.

they will only budget for so many new molds per line and may not want to fiddle with a torso made of 2 deluxes when they have to get maximum mold reuse out of each new piece. CW was heavy on mold reuse, even counting retools and POTP is continuing that. Sky Lynx only got 1 recolor and it's not a body type that lends itself easily to repaints. Rook only got 1 direct repaint but also a retool and that got 2 repaints.

Computron isn't that bad. Strafe was retooled to look like the g1 toy, sucks the guns don't come off but Takara focused almost solely on a poorly-drawn cartoon for its remolds. Takara Lightspeed is closer to the g1 toy but neither version got it quite right. Takara Nosecone is the better mold but it needs Hasbro colors to look good. The hands & feet are good enough I didn't have to buy the PE feet(which don't color match anyway) and while Takara did a new head & chest, they look like crap compared to the PE set- which won't even work with the Takara set because it's designed to fit the Hasbro version. Plus you get 2 extra robots.

Thing is, Takara didn't go "all out" on CW. Slinghsot and Wildrider were recolors with new heads. Groove? Good bot and limb modes but the motorcycle looked wrong, as eneryone thought making a proper bike with the CW torso requirements was going to look funny. Blast Off? A for effort, C for execution, it had issues.

Devastator? A few new bits to add elbows and 6 guns, and a tweak to the face, but otherwise it's still an upscaled set of deluxes with issues, a head that looks too small and really poorly designed shoulders.

Galvatron had 2 new heads in the set and Starscream is horribly floppy.

Lynx Master? Only incentive to get it is because US Ratchet was a Botcon exclusive piece.

Liokaiser? Oh they didn't do one and with POTP doing Hasbro version they probably won't bother now.

Thinking on this a little bit, and knowing how autistic Lamborhigni is about their cars, I bet being able to alternate to an unmodified-looking countach was a design requirement set by them if Takara was to use the car's likeness. Despite Sunstreaker pretty much never having been seen without the custom engine in any original G1 media.

If so I'd imagine that was a MASSIVE hurdle to cross in designing him. Things are cramped as hell with the engine hidden inside.

He's not perfect though, doesn't matter what you do he just can't hold up Shockwave in gun mode unaided.

Both torso suffer from hip issues that plagued nearly every version and it was due to shitty factory QC, the leg pins are a bit loose so the gear wiggles some. The looseness varies per individual copy, you may get one fully tight and another that moves 2-3mm.

Onslaught needed better cannons, you have to get PE or even Cyclonus guns to make his back look right. They are too short. PE didn't make a G2 set but there is a KO, you are screwed if you got Baldigus.

UW Vortex/Hepter got a 4-blade rotor but in practice I can see why Hasbro went 2 blade. It doesn't fold up well and is in the way in robot or leg modes. They have to be pulled out of joint to use leg mode at all.

Brawl has stability issues and even the "fixed" later releases didn't really fix the fact it was poorly designed. New sculpt Blast Off has some design issues too, while Groove is mostly solid.

Some of MP and 3P is simple enough to mindlessly fiddle with it but their size makes them unwieldy. Deluxe is the best size for standard transformers IMO.

Pretty good, and probably the only must-have CW OC. Shame he's actually become hard to find, but any of the remolds and repaints are worth getting too. UW Nosecone if my favorite use of the base mold because I like the orange and DRILL TANK, but Swindle/Hound's pretty good too, especially since it has proper hands.

I actually just bought this mold as Wandering Roller. Got him solo on ebay because I didn't want the whole combiner. I have to say I like the mold a lot. I love Roller's colors, the silver is awesome, and mixed with like, bright orange and forest green? Kinda cool. Bonus points for having ankles.

I'm trying to figure out other weapons that will work with him, because the stupid orange taser and HFG that came with him are kinda lame.

The prices have gone up over 50% for Deluxes. Hasbro could take a slight hit in the profits and STILL make back far more profit than they spent to produce it.

Hasbro can make do with less cocaine and ivory backscratchers. The consumers have been tightening their belts, so should Hasbro. They laid off a shitload of people several years ago, put the mountains of money they saved by not having to pay them into the line.

Some of them, maybe.
I don't like that the Duocons are going to be two part legends combiners because of MUH BUDGET but I guess they still work okay. I'll have to see if Cindersaur looks good because I'm not interested in Slash at all. Beachcomber is kind of shit and so is the Windcharger mold before the QC issues. I'll have to see how well Dreadwind and Darkwing combine. Unless Takara or a third party redo Hun-Grr I won't be getting any of the Terrorcons except, maybe if he is meme'd to death, Blot. Fire Chief could've been nice but 84 shit is always the priority, even the shit that has definitive CHUG versions; POTP Inferno is so fucking worthless holy shit.
Everything else looks like shit. POTP Optimus should've been Optimus to Star Convoy; forget about Orion Pax already, he is worthless as a toy. Rodimus is a joke.

So you can make PotP Cuckrod look a little better in Rodimus mode if you don't fold his arms behind the chest when you attach him. Helps to cover up his shoulders a bit and gives him kind of quasi-smokestacks.

Of all the optimuses I have, he works perfectly with the TLK voyager, sits a little high on TFP first edition, doesn't work with motormaster mold or evasion prime, would need some kind of adapter, otherwise it looks pretty decent with them. Some deluxes might even look ok with it.

Id have to say Defensor since all four limbs have solid robot modes. Plus Groove was eventually made available as a limb.

Bruticus loses only because Brawl's robot mode was poor and that Blastoff wasn't sold later as a shuttle so one could opt to buy whichever version they wanted to use.
