At the height of his popularity on Fantastic Four, Marvel's mature audience magazine Epic Illustrated ran a Galactus solo story by John Byrne set in the future which would tell Galactus's death.
The story ran for about 10-11 segments before Epic Illustrated got canceled, ending right before the final chapter (when Galactus finds out that the guy killing off the Universe was a Watcher).
Though Marvel and Byrne planned on repackaging the entire Last Galactus Story comic sized one-shot, with the final chapter, Byrne quit Marvel and due to the crazy way Epic Illustrated was run and operated, Byrne was getting paid per installment of the serial and since the final part was never paid for/illustrated, Byrne owns it and Marvel can't reference the ending PERIOD.
The story itself was only just reprinted recently for the very first time, as a bonus feature in the second John Byrne FF omnibus; meanwhile Byrne himself has been open about how the final chapter was supposed to end (the Watcher was the Watcher who saw Galactus' birth but did nothing to stop him, causing him to go insane from guilt of watching Galactus kill planets for food and was destroying the Universe to save it from being eaten by Galactus one planet at the time. Galactus kills the Watcher and as the universe dies, Galactus sacrifices his life to restart the universe and Nova ends up becoming the new female Galactus)
