Hi, I've been collecting japanese figures for couple of years, but I bought only from a local shop here in Italy. Now I want to buy from Japanese sites, but I don't know which are the best ones.

Hobby Link is the best for new stuff.

The only one I know that you didn’t mention is Mykombini which usually has a lot of things and mostly nice prices.

Also, you're european like me so never order more than one figure at the same time:
If the size is too big, Europe charge you a gigantic useless fee just because they can. Be careful, i had to pay 50€ just because my mail contained two SAS.

Also, is there a reason why shipping a figma from Japan is around 7-8€ (Registered SAL) but shipping the same item from America is like 20-25$?

Does it have to be more than one? Cause I ordered a figma that comes in a big box once(berserker armor) and I didn't have to pay anything here in Spain. I'm thinking of getting Ryu and akuma together this month and now you got me thinking.

From Italy too, joust got my first 2 figuarts from amiami the order was smooth and fast enough but for about 30€ of expense the customs changed my for 12€ for the lulz, at least the mailman waited for me to collect the money and didn't left my goods in the open to be stolen by a passing kebabbo

It's completly random so i don't know. Figma boxes are small enough though and Spain is less strict about this stuff in comparison to my country (France) so i'ld say go for it.
If you're really afraid, buy them separately and buy akuma the next day so you still receive them at almost the same time.

Use Air Mail instead if there's the option. It's more expensive than SAL but is faster and seems like it can avoid customs most of the time too. EMS parcels are taxed 99% of the time.

If you're a Spaniard then yes, I absolutely recommend Air small packet. I've had plenty of 15k+ yen orders go uncharged, and it's almost as fast as EMS. Hope Correos doesn't change its mind about how it treats Airmail for a long time.

Mandarake is normally my go-to, mostly because I'm a gunpla nerd. Their shit's always on the cheap because it's pre-owned (but not pre-used). So the box may have a dent on it, which plummets the value for some reason, but all the plastic is still in the shrinkwrap.
This is probably rare, but they had a Fenice R MG once (~45 USD) for 2k yen (~18 USD) and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it other than a worn box, which was in better shape than the one I bought from Barnes and Noble before it.
For new shit I use amiai.

However I should say that this is my experience in burgerland.

Not him, but I'm an spaniard too and the one who recommended using airmail in this thread. Never tried it myself, but I read on MyFigureCollection that Air Mail is the way to go to avoid taxes when SAL is unavailable, good to see someone else confirming it because my next order from Amiami will be ready to ship in just two days.

I hope all this trouble with SAL gets solved as soon as possible nonetheless.

Hijacking the thread for a question related to Mandarake:
is there a way to broadly know how much the shipping cost is gonna be by knowing more or less the size of the item before they send you the total to pay? I saw that some of the shops do place a table with the shipping rates in the item page, but not all of them do it. I wouldn't want to place an order on an item just to find out that even the cheapest shipping method is still quite expensive.

You can just check the actual cost of postage from japan post.
Use the anime-export link for simple redirect to japan post.

You will need to know the item weight and then you will need to add some extra weight for packaging and shipping box. Theres also size restrictions for sal small packet . Must weight less than 2000g and size can not be over 90cm HxWxL.

You can send them a mail in order to ask them if they support specific shipping options like international e-packet.
I messaged Sapporo and they said they're okay with using that.
It's cheaper than EMS (and supposedly a tad bit cheaper than registered Airmail) and faster than SAL has tracking, insurance and you can use it for stuff up to 2kg and 6000Yen.
