Nah. I'm 29, married, and teach high school. Collecting is a hobby. So long as you don't sink your funds into the hobby-- and so long as you don't let it take priority in your life, then you'll be fine.

it depends more on why you are collecting. if you are riding the high of buying a new figure as your only source of happiness you'll get a couple years out of it, but it's definitely not going to fix anything.

If you don't have a decent income and your shit together (live on your own, car, rent/bills & a savings etc) you should stop immediately.

Whatever you do, don't buy any of this shit on credit. If you can't pay cash you definitely don't need it and shouldn't be buying toys anyway.

It's just a hobby like anything else. Just be responsible and treat it like any other hobby. If you don't feel comfortable collecting, that's totally cool though. Just don't let others say what you should and shouldn't like. Maybe ask them what they mean by 'grow up' and why they think toy collecting is something you should grow up from. It's sometimes good to hear people's perspectives. Who knows, maybe they might change their mind if they have to elaborate or think about it more?

I was always upset that I didn’t get many toys as a kid so to somewhat cope with it, I started collecting figures. I started realizing that collecting made me really happy, since it was almost a portal back to my childhood anytime I wanted to repose them or open new ones. The point of this is just to do whatever you enjoy in life regardless of what your dumbass friends think, because at the end of the day, you should please yourself before pleasing others. You only have one life to live anon, so live it the best you can.

Better than buying drug or alcohol. Maybe one day you'll have kids and they will be thankful for your collection. Buying toy if you have enough money is nothing childish or degenerated. Adults in the past, (mostly Victorian era in Engand) had also big toy collections to impress their guests. Sure toy were far more sophisticated thpan nowdays but you probably get my point.

Toy collection can tell a lot about your personality. Not only your interests but the way how you display tham can tell a lot about your aesthetic taste, color combo taste etc. Also can show how good you are with your money mamgement or something.

Figure collecting is actually not that expensive of a hobby compared to others. I have a notoriously short attention span when it comes to hobbies so I can compare. For instance I dropped several grand on fishing equipment only to grow bored after 2 years. A decent fishing lure costs as much as a low end figure and then on your first time using it it just happens to get stuck on some junk and is gone forever. A figure stays with you for as long as you want it, and is one of the most resellable collectors items you can get.

I get it if it's some sort of self destructive hobby, or something really depraved like collecting wet naps or bjds whereit's excessively creepy. But even then, if that's how you wanan live your life.

Besides, with people who consider themselves "adults" what do they even do? Most times they sit around, talk about some nothing show that they're not even enjoying and how miserable their wife makes them, while in the house they amass a dvd collection that nobody watches, with nothing furnishing anything but the bare necessities. Then if they're slihgtly involved in something, they play watch the game with the boys, or fix a car or something. Most of em don't even do that. The life of any normie who isn't a chad is a fucking bleak pitiful thing, and they normally hate their wives and lives.

Best tip I ever got was killing the cell jew by going with one of the cut rate but still good quality pay-as-you-go plans. It saved me money (I pay $17 a month average), and minimizing cellular data to zero consumption through strict wifi usage cut my addiction from the smartphone bullshit that is consuming our generation and ruining our society.

Personally. I’ve accumulated a huge pile. I have 2 boys, so they provide nice cover for the main line stuff. But at this point they are aged out of mostly. So In storage out of the way is the marvel 3.75, Star Wars vehicles, and marvel 6 inch figures. I’ve considered selling them. But I’d honestly I’d rather have them in a box then whatever money I could get out of them. I’m sure i feel that way because I don’t need the money. I also figure in 20 years when I stumble over them I’ll remember the kids when they where younger and those feels are worth more then gold.

What I have out on display is my various transformer collections. It gets looks and comments sometimes. Doesn’t bother me because I know how much I smile at it when I look at it all. I guesstimate my tf collection to have cost me around 14 thousand dollars in total. If I hadn’t spent the money on it, I’m sure I’d have 7k in some other kinds of crap my wife would have bought and 7k more in the bank. I prefer my cases of 3p Mp crack

This is the eternal Normie vs Nerd war. Whatever the nerd does is creepy and childish and whatever the normie does is vapid, shallow and self-destructive. Even people who don't fall into either and do shit like climbing Everest or save lives or whatever get shat on by certain people.
Someone somewhere will always be ready to rain on your parade, even if you're perfect; they'll just say perfection is boring and you're not truly free and doing what you want.
So with all this mind do whatever you want. Want to collect toys? Go nuts. Want to dump them all and go drink and have sex every night? Good luck. Want to be a perfect human being? Have fun.
At the end of the day you'll always meet someone who hates you and what you do.

As long as you have your finances in order, your fine, it's not any less adult than buying video games, cell phones, cars, drugs or alcohol. Hobbies and collections are no less games and toys than actual games and toys. And besides, the companies that make your toys are aiming for you. Those most of things that have dedicated subjects on this board are aimed at adult collectors, as they either wouldn't appeal to or would be to delicate for actual children.

I used to collect Minimates, since I was a wee lad, and my dad would say "you're gonna regret wasting money on plastic junk" and flash forward a few years... he was right. Now, I still have a comic book subscription, but I've given up on mass produced figures because in the end, they ARE a bunch of mass produced plastic crap that hook you with the completionist mindset.

If I were you, I'd just shift to something like statues or Hot Toys if you still want to collect something /co/ | /v/ | /tv/ related. I'd much rather drop 250$ on a good Judge Dredd figure that I can proudly display, than 30$ on a plastic crappola for kids.
