Why the hell Lego releases JW sets with only the same dino over and over again? How many raptors ? In every set we either have a raptor, a trex, or another big ass meat eater ! Why no compy? No stegosaurus ? No Lego sized gallimimus?

Small dinosaurs like troodon or compsognathus or whatever would all look the same considering the scale and degree of stylization, and kids presumably generally like large carnivores more than other dinosaurs anyway, most earlier Lego dinosaur themes (and dinosaur sets in miscellanous themes) also focused on them for the most part asides from that weird canister one which nobody remembers. I do find it weird they didn't reuse the triceratops in JW considering other bodies were recycled for more than one dino, but maybe the molds wore off unusually fast for some reason.

Triceratops was always my favorite growing up, so I'm one of the people disappointed that one won't be appearing except as a brick built skull (have we seen the mansion yet?). Not that anon who really freaked out about it. I'm not made at The Lego Group, just myself for not buying the Dino theme one when I had the chance.

There’s a pretty standard rate for per pound price on eBay so just look for sellers with a good reputation
I also like searching for “Lego sets lot incomplete” usually a bunch of half made builds sold as a lot, and you can get lucky with some good parts that match

Wanted to do another Jake and Maddie story for this thread but then I bought more sets because I’m bad with money (also writers block). Hope the three people that like them are patient.

So I have this theory that there’s a bunch of old Lego Space Theme nerds on the Nexo Knights design team because this is totally a fucking Blacktron ship. Like not even subtle Blacktron. Anyway let’s build this fucker and see if I can un-Nexo it.

So apparently that column of green is then flipped 90 degrees and connected via these arch’s, probably to serve as the holding spot for the robot suit. Already I love how interesting this build is. Wish the gray brick was black but maybe black polymer isn’t strong enough or whatever.

There’s a mostly technic chunk of
Pieces. It’s not very appealing to look at but it’s in the back of the ship and I assume it involves the mech-drop gimmick, so it’s all good.

Fuuuuuuuck this is one of my biggest Lego pet peeves - non-flush cockpits. I know I can build around it buts it’s a really ugly design choice. And it’s not like I can replace the cockpit piece, I don’t have that much Trans-green. It’s no real biggie, but still kind of a bummer.

Okay. This confirms it. Designers wanted to do a Blacktron reboot but Lego wasn’t feeling it so they snuck it into this set. I mean look at this fucking guy. If Lego remade Blacktron this is what they would look like. I love it.

Aaaaaaaand one wing done. Between the trans-green and the satellite dish piece it’s like this set WANTS me to geek out over Blacktron. There’s a stud shooter as a thruster and while it looks good as such, I never liked the stud shooters because I don’t feel like losing those studs. But it’s not too bad.

So the ship is done. More pics once I complete the mecha suit, but I gotta say I love that Melvin the Lost Blacktron Soldier (they call him Berserker but that’s dumb) has a place to store both his weapon AND his shield when he’s flying. That seems to be a common thing with Nexo (at least the two sets I messed around with) and I gotta say kudos to Lego for doing it.

So Melvin’s buddy Clorox Leachman (he’s actually called “Mechabyter which is cool I guess) gets this mechsuit with stud shooters for hands, only instead of studs he gets these little spider looking things. Honestly I dig it - the spider legs look enough like fingers but if you put a green stud on them they look enough like plasma weapons or something. Honestly I’ll probably upgrade this mech In the same vein as the anon who posted those LDD Nexo mecha - more ball joints, greebly texture, etc.

The ship itself is solid. Small but tiny and dripping in that Blacktron aesthetic I love so much. If I had one complaint aside from the non flush cockpit (which was necessary since Melvin’s helmet has huge ears) it’s that I want more of it. I’m about to buy a lot of Lex Luthor sets

Definitely do man, if $30 isn’t too steep. Hopefully you’re a Blacktron Guy otherwise a LOT of this sets appeal might be lost. But since you built your own version it’s safe to assume you are.

I’ll probably review this set as well but since it’s larger and I hog the image limit enough with the Jake and Maddie stories I’ll probably just go over the set as a whole after I build it, less pics that way.

I’m not a fan of these long stickers - too easy to accidentally put on crooked and tear trying to get off. But hey, it’s a cop car! Albeit a very simple cop car, but enough slopes to look nice. The gate is a single piece with two trans blue studs but it looks okay enough.

Unless I’m building it wrong, a (GREEN) plate offsets the rear axles from the front by a single stud. Perhaps it helps the overall aesthetics in the end, this is meant to be a sports car after all.

I catch myself doing the same thing with weird color parts. Building something in blue and need to fill interior space? I might need more blue later so I'll grab a piece in pink or something.

I love the story this thing tells. Dudes got a construction vest - was it his cover? Is he a construction worker who fell on hard times? If he’s robbing a bank how’d he get this nice car? Use your imagination to fill in the blanks, that’s LEGO baby.

As for the car itself, it’s not bad - those offset axles are subtle enough to ALMOST not matter but they help differentiate it from the cop car, and I love how much smoother this set is compared to the cop car. Being able to store the ill gotten goods behind the seat is a nice touch too. Fuck I love Lego.

It has to do with production runs - they limit how many colours a part is made in year by year, so they might have, say, a big run of orange 2x4s left over from a run but no primarily orange sets the next year to put them in.

Set designers build for specific price points and a piece that's already been molded is cheaper than a new run, especially if the colour is hidden.

I thought it was, but upon further research, there was an earlier set (60007 High Speed Chase, no hyphen) that didn't have a copter, but has his name on it. The cars are slightly different, too, but there's quite a bit of similarity there.

It'd be a really great parts pack if it was fully compatible, but the clip-and-bar connections are a little off. The bars are slightly smaller diameter, just enough to make me worry I'll break the clips if I try shoving Lego bars through them. Then again I might just be paranoid.

Yep. Pretty nice set, the ski speeder is a good lego rendition of the vehicle. Not really accurately minifig-scaled but pretty close. The defence tower and turret are kinda meh but has some useful parts. Would recommend buying if you find it on discount.

To those talking about why Lego use blue and red bricks in sets that do not use those colors as the main set colors.
The reason is very simple really, it’s not for filler: it’s to ease the building process. As simple as that. They use primary colored pieces in builds that indicate the orientation of the build. Say you are building a plane and making the inner frame. Judging from the schematics it might be difficult to know what is the front and what is the back. That’s why they use the colored bricks, to indicate orientation so you can have a more streamlined and enjoyable building process.
That’s the real reason.

Well that’s DEFINITELY not where I got it from haha. Idk my parts bin is mostly stuff from childhood so it’s a real hodgepodge of bricks and bits. Hell sometime I find Mega Bloks in there before promptly throwing them in the fire. I’ll bricklink it later, see what I got it from. Till then it’s going in Jake and Maddies cabin.

In other news I went ahead and turned the Nexo Ship into a troop carrier and holy shit easiest mod ever. Still gotta work the mech claw in there somewhere but I’ll figure it out.

75217 Republic V-Wing Torrent Fighter - est RRP $80 to $100

Set:

The V-wing has a unique style white vehicle with many dark red pieces to contrast and is visually the best star wars set I have seen in a while. It shows a few republic symbols on the wings. There is 3 wings and can be all folded up and has the spring loaded missiles hidden on all wings (4 of those in total and they are transparent green)

There is a brown speeder bike which has rail like design at the bottom and can fit into the brick built rack which is rather large and slots in.

The last smaller build is a bright blue and dark blue STAP build which can hold the battle droid and has a transparent rod and clear pieces to look as if it is hovering above the ground.

Minifigs:
Clone Pilot (Same as we got the in Gunship a few years back)
Captain Rex (New helmet design and comes with 2 blaster pistols and a new dark blue/black coloured pauldron)
Commander Cody (New helmet mould and has a orange coloured bar onto the helmet and looks very odd. He has orange arms and various orange lines on his torso and legs. He also has a blaster).
Plo Koon (New alien head mould and dark brown robes and a dark brown material skirt like piece. similar to rex’s kama piece. he also has a blue lightsaber)
Obi Wan Kenobi (Same face as previous version and short darker orange hair. He has a white torso with tan robes and the robe design continues to the legs and has white 2 folded boots and a blue lightsaber)
Battle Droid (Exact same as seen before)
Droideka (Fully brick built and similar to previous versions but has a stud shooter

75216 The Throne Room Duel - est RRP $40 to $60

Set:

Comes with a similar shaped build as 75093 Death Star Final Duel. The left side has a large cloth piece in red with a small black platform below and has a jumping function and a red guard can be placed on top to jump into the duel On the cloth piece is a ragged looking hole almost placed at random. The opposite side has the same exact idea but instead of a function it has a tie fighter style cockpit piece in dark clear with a new looking print and a computer console piece connected to it and this side does not have the ragged hole design. The middle section has a dark grey and black brick built angular shaped section with a chair very similar to the emperors. It has white 1x2’s, 1x1’s and a few of the new quarter circle pieces in white placed around the chair which I don’t know if this is a function or some sort.

There is a small pod-like built which is almost identical to the superman pod in the set (76009). It is in dark grey, dark red detail and a trans clear windshield with a dark grey sticker applied onto it. There seems to be printed 1x2 curved pieces on the throne chair where Snoke is seated or it is stickers. But I assume these are stickers.

Minifigs:
Rey (Same as the 75189 First Order Heavy Assault Walker)
Kylo Ren (Similar to before but with a new angry face with sweat/tear drops)
Snoke (New angry face)
Praetorian Guard (Has a new moulded helmet in red with printed fine black lines on his face section and has a technic brick built weapon in red and transparent red. very odd looking)
Praetorian Guard (Comes with a different helmet than other guard and has a shortened rope climbing piece in black and has 1x1 red transparent clips on on half of the climbing folded plastic sections. Seems very different than anything seen before)

75215 Resistance Transport Ship - est RRP $30 to $40

Set:

The ship is a small scaled and very compact transport in dark grey and dark tan details. It is a stubby but almost pointed like shape. It has 2 windows on either side of the set and can be opened up for a quite spacious interior size. There is spring loaded missiles on either side in red and in the inside is lots of open areas and transparent blue screens as seen in the rebel and resistance bases in star wars. The set has 2 racks for weapons and another for thermal detonators. It seems to be similar in scale to the A-wing straighter from a couple of years back.

Minifigs:
General Leia Organa (New outfit and face design. She has a dark grey cape similar to Dr. Strange from superheroes)
Kaydel Ko Konnix (Has Princess leia’s hair from the older falcon in dark tan and has a new torso design and a blaster)
C-3PO (Almost a replica of the a new hope version with no silver printing)
Nien Numb (New alien moulded head. He has a black jacket with red shirt printing and red arms. He has a blaster)
Resistance Soldier (Same as the one seen in the set 75177 First Order Heavy Scout Walker with a bearded face).

They probably wouldn't make the orcs no matter what because it's way too obvious the designers wanted a warhammer reference, and the dark blue dudes wouldn't be distinct enough from what we got last year, so the only real loss are the sand green guys who admiteddly do look fantastic even though I have no clue what they are and more ornately armored red monsters since none of them had heavy armor.

I wish they woudl stick to the "Scrappy rebels have limited budget" ( which still makes sense for Dis-cannon of "Rebels sem-clandestine poorly funded by Government ) rather than "sleeker" Hell A-wings were sort of seen as replacements of X-wings so it would even make more sense to have a lot those now. Also, with government changing hands it would make more sense that the Alliance forces would have taken over Imperial shipyards and foundrys. I don't care if Star Destroyers had "negative branding" the New Republic would have used em and maybe just given hem spankin paint jobs to differentiate. The tech-creep of the new movies doesn't make sense either.
There's some stuff with the Rebel logo slapped just slapped on ISD's and an Executor and then THIS further down the timeline.

How do you sort your legos? I'm putting mine into sandwich bags organized by color/general type (2 x 2s and up, 1 x 2s and up, etc) but I'm wondering if this is actually sustainable for a growing collection.

That's how I do it. Top pic is plants on the left, animals on the right. Plants and animals are sorted by type and bagged by group.

Bottom pic is plates. Every type has its own bag, ordered by size (bottom-right corner is 1x1, then 1x2, 1x3, etc.)

I just started using the bags because they were cheap and conform to the hard storage medium of Sterilite drawers, but they work really well for me and the way my Lego room is set up.

Welp, just got off the phone with Lego after checking the status on my blonde hippie hair that was supposed to ship out about this time.

Order status was "canceled". Apparently the part is now out of stock and they ain't making more. Interestingly, they ARE making more of the classic brown hippie hair (far left) because while they don't have any in stock right now, they're scheduled to produce some in a month. So I won't be getting my replacement green headband but on the plus side I'll at least get a free longhair. I wonder if the new batch is just going straight in BaM bins or if they're actually putting out a new minifig with the same hair and headband combo as the original CMF hippie dude.

I can respect that. I grew up with it so I suppose it'll always tickle my nostalgia gland. I skipped most of the sets, including the mansion (I regret that, though I still bought Velma separate). I've found them useful enough for other things, such as the mummy case went great in my expansion of the Lego city museum heist set. And of course I had to get the Mystery Machine. The plane was an easy pass but the lighthouse was, to me, an interesting build. Gotta love that skull, too.

I still would have loved a CMF line. Space Kook, Charley the Haunted Robot, Miner 49er. Ah well, an anon can dream...

If the latest then yes. There is a stand that you can build out of technic pieces. I built it before the falcon. I’m just as lazy as you so I’m not going to search but that should give you enough to go on. Instructions and build list are available for free. Cost is around $80 for parts.

So in borrowing the design outline from >>6721487 I upgraded Clorox Leachmans mech into something more appropriate of the Blacktron moniker. There’s not as much trans-green as I like but you have to understand how little trans green I’m working with - hell the heels are trans purple bricks because I needed SOMETHING. But overall I’m satisfied with how he turned out. The trick now is modifying the ship to carry him - maybe somewhere on the back?

The only explanation is that they were getting ready to escape with those crafts in that scene, hence the chaos. But that still doesn't make much sense really. Probably just to contrast against the neat and organised hangar bays of the FO to play up the "ragtag group of underdogs" vibe of the Resistance.

This shit is my bread and butter. I sort by type. Tried a sort by color first because it was easier, and it proved a complete waste of time.

Most important part of the sort is the weight class separation - getting your tiny 1x1 studs away from your large 4x6 plates - so you don't get a mixed grain packing effect that makes you unable to find jack shit.
