Why would you expect this to be the case? If anything, the official lego store should be cheaper, because they don't have to pay for a retailer's profit margin (only the operating costs of a store). They don't, because they can get away with charging full price in their own stores.

Its usually cheaper, like a medium classic tub from the Lego store would cost 35$ , while in target or walmart they would be 28$. Or that pizza truck woyld cost a full 20$ at lego but 17$ at walmart/target

Set rules for yourself. For example, this is roughly my process
1. Make a wanted list of pieces that you always sort of want more of.
2. Only start an order when there's a specific piece you need, for a specific project.
3. Always try to keep the average price per piece, for the whole order, less than 10 cents per part.
4. After adding the pieces that you actually need, that are the reason for the order, pad out your cart with pieces from your wanted list. Try sorting by price up.
5. After that, sort by price up for the entire store.
6. Optionally, set a maximum price per order or per month, if budgeting is a problem.
7. Finally, before you check out, go through your cart, and for each thing, ask "do I love this piece?" and "does this unlock major new building possibilities?" and "do I need this for a project right now?". Ideally, say yes to 2 or more of those questions for each piece

Step 3 is the most important one. I've made absurd purchases like buying a $2 clip in a rare color, but the rest of the order ALWAYS averages under 10 cents per part. 1 and 3 combined means you'll gradually build up a collection of parts you like at a reasonable price. But 2 acts as a counterbalance.

Save a lot of cash if you have patience. If not, start with the rarest, most expensive parts and find cheapest store. Fewer stores give you fewer s&h costs. It's often cheaper to get a little bit more expensive parts in fewer stores than cheapest parts in many stores.

The Marvel lego sets have always been shit that people only buy to get the minifigs of their favorite characters. Uninspiring builds, "buildings" that are just backdrops, lots of launchers and such. It's a theme aimed at kids and characterfags who want to own the minifig, not at builders.

If you like those things, fine. But don't pretend like this is a slap in the face of the AMAZING quality of previous Lego Superhero (Marvel) sets. Because it's on par.

A fire extinguisher is maybe 1/3 or 1/4 of a person. This looks to be 8 or so extinguishers high. Also bigfig hulk is like 2 minifigs tall so...

My brothers and I have actually debated this image. I said the tear is because the guy is hurt by a flying stud. My bother's on the other hand believe he was crying first, because he was not included in playing. Thus someone shot a stud at him to make him feel included. I finished another remodeling job

My taste for rare minifig parts is too high for that one to work, and the characters i make with those tend to be loved forever and fiddled with the most so it's worth the investment for me.

Great list though, i work similarly but don't pay as much attention to it in the bigger scope of things.
A very straightforward tip newcomers might not do yet but would save a lot of time and headache: Make a wanted list per build or type of parts you want.
This way you can easily toggle off wantedlists with parts when viewing a store through the 'my wanted list' function. My default wantedlist spiraled out of control and needs too much time to sift through if i didn't stop doing that.

I'm seeing the same thing but checking news feeds. I won't bother posting the link because the one I read looked a bit too much like clickbait, talking up an in-stock tracker.

Long story short, it supposedly hit stock at 8:00 AM EST and sold out in minutes. Will that pattern repeat on the 7th? No fucking clue, especially since I'm not 100% sold on the source. Still it's a tad better than the fucking nothing we've gotten. As for any tracker their own website never sent out in-stock notices, that's for damn sure.

I worked an overnight at my job and kept the page refreshing now and then but absolutely more than a few times on the hour and i know i hit it at 8AM EST and it was the same thing. I did what I could to console myself today and went to visit the closest store, filled my $15.99 cup of random kloki and will have a drink later tonight. At least tomorrow I'll get to watch some football. :-) Better luck to all of us on the next Walmart sale. I doubt they promote it any better or announce a time when it will happen leaving everyone guessing again.

I stopped partway doing my courtesy build of a friends superheroes set. Then I opened stud.io to look at a model i pretty much finished and considered bricklinking the parts.
Then i realised the final package for my last project with a whole bunch of crucial parts is probably lost like tears in the DHL uninsured shipping rain and lost all desire to build anything.
I am a bit sick though, don't really feel like anything besides eating desu. (even though my stomach hurts like FUCK)

There's no way around it unfortunately just pick a movie, TV show or Netflix series.
It's rewarding though because it gives you an idea of what you have and gives you hundreds of ideas for what you can make.

I think they sell a giant Lego head that separates pieces into three different size groups but I don't have one because I don't think it would really be helpful separating things into categories you would want like color or part type.

It's certainly tedious and depending on how much you have is probably something that will take hours over different days but the feeling after of knowing where everything is and not having to dig for specific pieces in a mixed bin makes building literally THOUSANDS of times faster.

I would definitely say the amount of time it takes to sort everything you have is certainly less than the amount if time you'd spend digging for a piece you may or may not have in a mixed bin.

1 2x2 duplo brick can be replaced by 4 2x4 lego bricks. Looking at bricklink really quickly (minimum quantity 50, not choosing the lowest price store but more like the average), the price of a duplo 2x2 is around $.06. The lowest price for a lego 2x4 is also $.06.

So, Duplo is cheaper if you're just trying to fill in space.

That other anon is correct; Duplo fits System at the rough rate of 1:2

As you can see, both 2x2 and 2x4 System bricks connect flush to Duplo bricks. This is because the tube on the underside of the brick fits neatly and snugly inside the hollow stud of the Duplo brick. You can attach a 2x3 System brick as long as it doesn't have the tube supports, but you'll have to stick it off one edge because it isn't long enough to cover both of the Duplo studs.

Duplo blocks can stack on top of System studs and the standard Duplo block fits a 4x4 space. Some pieces don't quite fit a 4x4 space, so you need to get creative with your build, but if you're just trying to attach some Duplo and System together, the most space-efficient way is to put a 4x4 System plate on the underside.

This engine block piece has two problems that make it a bitch to work with compared to a standard Duplo block. First off, the tube extends all the way to the base of the piece for some reason, instead of terminating with enough gap to be flush with System studs when you plug it into a baseplate. I know this isn't just a change in the part because I compared it to a brand-new Duplo brick and that has the shorter tube like all my other Duplos. I suppose the tube is slightly longer because all the indents and space gaps on the top surface make it less sturdy so the tube needs to act as reinforcement when pressing down. On a Duplo-Duplo connection it works perfectly because the tube touches against the surface of the Duplo brick between the studs, but the System studs get in the way and you can't snap it all the way down flush. That's why I've got that 2x2 area carved out in the middle.

The other problem is that the engine brick is slightly shorter than four System studs on one axis. This is because there are molded engine components on the front and back sides that stick out from the surface, and the piece needs to be able to slot flush against Duplo bricks on all sides, so the walls are slightly closer together than a brick that's smooth on all sides, so that the total depth of the piece is the same as a standard brick.

I forgot to mention one of my favorite things about Duplos!

The open stud on a Duplo brick is compatible with several System pieces. Most round pieces that has a long enough bottom lip can attach snugly to the inside of a Duplo stud; pieces like standard cylinders can't attach because the bottom lip isn't long enough.

In this picture, note the difference between the bottoms of the two plant pieces on the left. The one on the far left with the longer bottom section can attach to a Duplo stud, but the one next to it (with the shorter bottom section) can't attach because that bottom section is the only part narrow enough to fit inside the Duplo stud and it doesn't extend into the Duplo stud far enough to reach the area where the connection tightens.

You can also see that the plant tentacle piece fits a Duplo stud, because its bottom section is the correct width, and long enough to reach the area where the Duplo stud narrows.

That flat platform in pic related is probably my oldest surviving moc. They were robots in Skulltron's army, and were basically big flying platforms, and the round tile on top was a teleporter pad. Agent X and Skulltron had many a battle on top of these (there were supposed to be many of them flying around Skulltron's base, but I only ever had the one) and I often had a lot of fun pretending the flying platform bots blew up and crashed in dramatic ways.
Also pictured is the helicopter backpack Skulltron often had, and 2 robots from his robot army.

I can't find any old builds from his side of things, but his first base was supposed to be underwater, hence his scuba diver commander and mutant Hammerhead guards. His second base was in Antarctica, after his underwater base blew up. The guy in the parka is one of his henchmen who actually becomes a good guy and joins Agent X.

I have a few of those sets, including the submarine. While I'm quite the fan of Chinese Legos I have to say Cogo in general and those sets in particular aren't that great, mostly owing to parts with weak clutch. On the other hand, I like the sets that come with missile pieces, if the build itself isn't working out they're certainly worthwhile for military mocs.

So i did it. Felt like I had to buy at least one official modular, to feel how they building em, and this diner came right about time. Was really nice thing to build, even if it's different in some ways from how I make my own houses. The only thing that disapointed me, was an unprinted guitar, but that isn't really significant. The building itsels is a little bit shorter then I expected but it's not a problenn, so I'll keep it as I intended and will eventually make some small changes just to blend it into the street I'm building.

i built bags #3 today and i was surprised they included two antenna as extra spare pieces. i actually thought i accidentally skipped a step.

It looks good, actually better in person than in any of the pictures; my only problem with it so far is that they didn't put the ground floor transparent panels in a separate bag so my round corner panel is all scratched up :(

Bought one myself yesterday to get the 60th year set and will build the diner next time it snows. I actually got to see it in the store and it does look much shorter than the other modulars. I'll definitely be making modifications to this after I build it stock the first time. A lot of the modulars come with a ton of small pieces to give the builds more realism and detail these days. I've torn apart some of my older MOCs and rebuilt with these small parts and what a difference!

Interesting how they added some curves to the print on the legs and put his belt on his torso instead of the hips piece like the original Mr. Incredible CMF minifig. Gonna have to pick up those legs.

I attempted to heresy my CMF Bob's torso to make him a generic fat demon torso but I botched one of the manboobs so it doesn't look very good. I think I might get another original torso and try it again.

Haven't they announced they're looking to change the formula again for cost cutting purposes? I know the blend they use in the Chinese made stuff (like the CMFs) is a tad notorious for being lesser quality than regular sets. More breakage, parts that come out of the bag loose, misprints. Kind of worrisome if they all go to that level of quality.

I can only speak from what I know, but the Star Wars sets are a clear example of less stuff for more money. A lot of things that used to be a single set are now 2 or 3 separate sets.

And yeah yeah, you can argue that many of those are higher detail versions, but honestly small pieces don't have as much plastic, so it's a bit of a cheat.

Don't forget you are also paying for the intellectual resource going into techniques and such used in said builds. It may use a bunch of small pieces that are easier to produce, but they bring the artistic vision that brings the detail to life. The detail today is amazing and comes from some of the best lego builders in the world.

That doesn't make sense though. The kid still gets lot's of toy and those detailed parts to create his own detailed builds. The instructions provided gives the kid an idea on how techniques are used with those parts to create the detail. The instruction booklet is even better made today and the number bags make the builds even easier. Basically the present a product that teaches kids how to build lego much better than they did in the past (despite not having the alternative build pictures).

Anecdotal but the kids I know that play with LEGO, and myself as a kid, seem more interested in the set they bought than in using the parts to make their own stuff.

And they might get "a lot" of toy, but they used to get even more, it used to be common to get extra small vehicles alongside the main one, or more minifigs of 2 different sides to have them fight.

It's not the most accurate of measurements, you'd have to weight the sets or something, but it's a good indication, because if plastic was the bulk of the cost, then all sets should have similar prices according to the amount of parts.

Sales don't mean much, because companies put products on sale for a multitude of reasons, and even at a lost sometimes.

But steampunk lego also became a thing since Ninjago went crazy up to eleven with all those golden pieces.
I personally love dieselpunk but it need more imagination and lego is not producing the pieces in right colors. Atompunk could be easy to build but good luck with getting retro/vintage looking figures - they are very rare (new diner modual.);
