>>6789824See, I think we need to look at what Hasbro's actually doing and not what we hope Hasbro's doing.
-Big Vehicle
-$500
-5000 preorders needed
If Hasbro wanted to do figures like this, it would effectively be a Collector's Club like Matty Collector. This is not what they've laid out. They can get out figures a lot of different ways. This is for big ticket items that stores will not carry.
The Sail Barge looks great and is much-wanted. But if they were willing to do smaller items why not start small and work their way up? Because they're probably not looking to do smaller items. Stores will carry items (for Star Wars) that cost up to a certain amount. They can do smaller vehicles and the occasional large vehicle. So they will probably not use this platform for those kinds of things. This seems to be a platform for $100+ products.
The 5000 preorders is not a coincidence. That many orders is probably the only way they can justify doing a product like this. They deliberately set this up by number of preorders, not a fixed dollar amount. It's logical to assume they will need this many orders no matter what the eventual item costs.
Now, can anyone with a straight face tell me there are 5000 GI Joe fans willing to spend $100+ on any one thing? 1000, yes. I would be willing to bet 2000 for the right item.
If there were 5000 Joe fans willing to buy stuff above regular retail I'd be shocked. It's a poor, small fanbase. Star Wars is a big, rich fanbase.
