Only a glitchy, barely playable alpha that most people can't seem to be able to run on today's PCs. But it's more than nothing, and it's got the full soundtrack and other assets. Fans are already exporting the models to other 3D programs.

Bionicle G1 didn't die because of Disney, that's certain.

If Disney was partly responsible for death of G2, that's an another case. There have been some rumors going around it might have been in part because they needed to free some space in factories to mass-produce the Ninjago movie and Lego Batman movie sets.

But who knows really. Currently it looks like Lego is being almost forced to push the SW CCBS out since all it does is rot on shelves

It's a cancelled game for 2001 that was never published. someone at lego finally leaked it out after all these years and just yesterday we were able to download it.

So yes, It's pretty important.
You have to play it on virtual machine or an ancient toaster tho, some guys are working on a Windows 10 port.

Yes. Bricklink even allows you to add all parts of given set to wanted list, and then it searches for stores that have most of the parts.

And unless you're looking for stuff like Karzahni, it's going to be cheaper to part set out. G1 parts are dirt cheap on BL because no one really buys those

But it's in line with this very early character bio from the board game's story booklet, which seems to imply he has a short temper.

Lore-wise, this game is real interesting because it has a bunch of concepts that didn't really appear in the later canon. The order in which the Toa meet each other differs from the comics' account, and only Onua has his regular mask at first. Instead of having to find each mask individually, the Toa can apparently just conjure duplicates of their masks out of nothing and share them among themselves.
There's also all the dance parties, the elemental beings, and one Tohunga talks about skating on Lake Naho, which was also mentioned in the aforementioned booklet.

So, just really remembered Bionicle yeaterday and read into it today. When I was younger I was a lego fag and Bionicle was just try-hard legos for cool kids. Now after reading about it actually having a ongoing story, characters who actually have personality, and can get by without pop culture tie ins, I feel bad. Feels like I missed out, Bionicle really seems like the legit cool legos.

Basically, first three years were "sci fi beings on a tropical island with Polynesian influence", and after those three years the setting shifted to the sci fi place the characters came from. There was a noticeable shift around 2005 when the original boss of the writing team left the company and the one who took over was an edgelord who didn't care for things like atmosphere, only action, darkness and shock-factor twists. The story was still good but he got more power as the years went. Also, Lego cut ties with the studio that made the original Flash game and webisodes around that time. The franchise became more action oriented and the writing was sprinkled with shitty comicbook-style quips. They also began phasing out the mystical stuff and the new characters had cheesy names full of Z-s, X-s and V-s to avoid offending Polynesian people because the original names were lifted from the Maori language.

This just plain sucks, scfi explaination can just get too messy. Just saying “cause magic” keeps shit simple and can be done in a variety of ways. Last I was in this was the bug things with the wide heads, I read some of the Bionicle Story site and it certainly got out there, other spots I only remeber from having TV on and off through comercials, Piraka for example.

I'm not a fan of the Inika too (very gimmicky clones with retarded heads), but at least they have nice color schemes and look passable

it's especially a shame that they ditched the gear functions after metru - I'd much prefer them over dumb-looking shooting balls or clunky light-up swords (especially Pohatu's kicking function, that shit is fun)

You know, with this being a unique setting, with super powered being of destiny, my mind keeps thinking of one thing. Bionicle would make a kickass RPG, ancient secrets, shittton of bad guys, plenty of ground to cover and alter. I know that most games seem to be bad shooters or action/adventure but what about rigging it up with dnd? Spell system for projectiles, its got a melee system, attributes can flesh out your character, really gets the wheels turning. Start out nothing, discover masks and just straight up adventure from there, actual Bionicles for minis if you really want that, what do you fags think? I been in table top for years, can try to make up a rule set and get some of you fags over a chat one night to try it.

Thanks man! Those are both exactly what I had! I'm going to go dig my old toy box for them. I loved their gimmicks. I think I also got the black variant for the little round guys who could ball up and hang onto the bottom of the packaging's lid like a little bat. If you don't mind, could you tell me the name of the little ball guy?

I loved how durable and posable these guys were, I played with them as some sort of really skilled, impossible to kill, prowling enemy.

I'll be back in this thread, basically been wanting to display them again on my nostalgia shelf but if I can't find them I'd have to rebuy them. I think I might have lost Onua.

Duh. Even Lego didn't know what they were doing, Bionicle's "feel" only came about through lucky circumstances. Case in point: the PC game. Lego focused most of their attention on that and what most fans consider to be the best piece of early media, MNOG, was nothing more than a little side project for Lego tossed to some little company. That company happened to be Templar who had total faith in the franchise. When the PC game crashed, Templar had to shoulder the responsibility of tying up the story and they did it in a great way.
But that wasn't what Lego had planned. They never intended Bionicle to be the way it was, and to me the failure of the reboot shows that they never truly "got" what made the line so good. Lego would never attempt it again because they didn't know what they were doing even back then. The original team did, Faber, Thompson, Swinnerton, the set designers, Templar, and to a degree Farshtey too.

They made two waves of ball guys, the second basically just being a really beefed version of the first for the lore, but the sets were nearly identical. If it was black and grey with green accents, that was Nuhvok. If it was black with lots of silver on it, it was Nuhvok-Kal.
I don't recall them ever having a bat hanging feature though. This is the first time I've ever heard of that kind of thing in reference to Bionicle.

Debating on buying an Iruini because I dig the design, although I'd kill for a Lhikan without the rhino mount thing because of how he looks and how I envisioned a proper Toa Jaller to look, but it seems like all Lhikans come with it, bumping up the price tremendously. Amazon, eBay and the like are usually a ripoff for complete sets. You can get them at a small markup from retail in most cases on bricklink, or just part out what you want from a few sellers.

Depends, on bricklink you get a big list of sellers so you can get a better idea of what it's worth. Bionicle isn't as expensive secondhand as other collectables.

eBay is a mixed bag because people don't know how much something is worth and can overcharge or undercharged immensely.

I realised it was all just sitting around doing fuck all for me. I MOC or play with like 5% of it. Just seems like a waste when someone else could be appreciating it more.

I'm keeping the REALLY nostalgic stuff, the 01-02 sets, and my absolute favourites like Brutaka or Maxilos. But stuff like the Toa Metru I just bought cause they were cool at the time, but in hindsight I don't really like them that much.

Those were the best, I was hoping to get some of those, really loved my early sets before I got separated from them and was hoping to get some of those good early ones (couldn't care less about the newer stuff, it all just seemed too overdone by then).
I'm gonna be browsing Bricklink for a few sets anyway (hopefully can find some close to me), but I'll let you know if I'm still interested because it seems you have quite a wide choice there and 5 quid doesn't seem like much at all.
Just tell me how much would you want for say a Bohrok-Kal or Rahkshi?

I had this idea, and I kinda thought it similar to Chrono Trigger.

You have your Toa, different masks and armor, equippable weapons, and you'd go through the story, year by year until you meet Artakha, who would give you the ultimate armor and allow you to teleport between islands to finish side-quests and later fight Teridax. Turns out, its not a boss fight and 2009 starts. Final boss is the Great Spirit robot, but bonus bosses are from the serials. Other bosses are Makuta, Bahrag, Titan Makuta, Roodaka, TSO (Time Trap Sidequest), Vezon and Fenrakk/Kardas (like the Paper Mario piranha boss), Maxilos, Icarax, Angonce...

A Chrono Trigger-Style Bionicle RPG would be awesome. Changing characters every so often (playing as the Piraka, Lesovikk, Takua and Jaller...) would be cool also.

I think otherwise. Only the hau and perhaps the pakari are immediately recognizable as tribal. The matatu not only isn't, but it's mouth and side panels have something aquatic to them.
Of course time has endeared almost all the designs to me. But at the same time ruined them. I really hate how the kanohi of the initial arc have such a distance from the face. People like to shit on Stars but I really appreciated the revamped hau that I like more than the original.

I think all of the 2001 Toa masks are great - while not all of them look tribal, they're very clean and iconic, and manage to convey their powers and their users' characters quite well (Gali's looks like a diving mask, Pohatu's is sharp and aerodynamic, Lewa's is smiling and similar to a bird's beak, Kopaka's is alien and robotic and obviously concerns vision)
the turaga masks are more of a mixed bag - I only really like Nuju's and Nokama's

it's a shame the later masks' designs usually had no relation with their powers and were often overdesigned messes

Idk man. Seems to me like the only blatantly non-tribal masks of that era were the Kaukau and Komau. Everything else was well within that psuedo-organic look. Honestly the Matatu is the one that strikes me as being the most tribal and least robotic looking of all the masks. There's almost something elfish to the look. Not to mention the holes in the top that you can stick pieces in for more customization.

This and the Komau used to be my least favorite as a kid because I hated how human they looked. But wires and mechanical details aside, the base shape looks pretty tribal to me. A lot of tribal masks looked like stylized human heads, and so does the Mahiki imo.

But yeah, the original saga had it particularly bad. An official, cohesive and comprehensive telling of the 2001 arc has never been made. MNOG, the comics, the novel and this canceled game were all contradictory and incomplete.

Literally never. Official Lego rereleases are few and far between, and even those have parts that are still in production. Most of G1 molds got destroyed after the cancellation, and Lego wouldn't spent thousands of dollars on new ones just so some nostalgiahungry NEETs can relive their childhood

Look at the torso, it's upside down but with the proportions turned around. It's not a mistake, it's clearly intentional. Whetever you like/dislike the choice is an another case.

Also no one seems to complain that they changed Gali's build by turning her torso upside down too, instead of shaping it just more feminine.

If the "throw claws to restrain" thing from the films still happened, he could've had flying hands.

Getting rid of his Slizer Arms and Onua's bulbous Bohrok elbows (tiny arms aside) was already a bad decision, though.

Also, Gali Nuva was a fucking mistake.

I saw pic related at flea market today for 5€. I don't suppose it's worth that much, even with the canister? Even the parts won't save it for me, only parts of interest are the mask and feet, and even those are dirt cheap on BL.
