>>6775710It's a Toy Biz figure, whom put a whole mess of effort into their figures. The figures were completely painted most of the time. So the figure itself is made from a primary colored plastic, which Toy Biz added flesh tones over that, then hair colors, then costume colors, then they were shaded and highlighted. So the figure rarely ever looked likea glossy plastic toy like you see even with collector lines today.
Instead, you had a highly detailed toy with a complex amount of paint apps and a shitload of articulation. Plus, whatever accessories and comics Toy Biz that made sense to pack with the figure.
So Toy Biz spent a ton of dough into producing their figures, at least compared to Hasbro and the toy only cost like $1-3 more than your average action figure back then. The difference in product cots is probably like 10%, which says a lot about hwo much it cost to manufacture and is true today.
You still see this sort of effort being done today. McFarlane spends far more per figure than Hasbro does. Same with NECA compared to Hasbro. And their super articulated, complexly painted figures are either the same price or about $5 more, which NECA/McFarlane try to make up for by increasing the size, which also shows how little size differences matter in cost.
tl;dr: toys aren't that expensive to produce and any difference is mostly down to how greedy the manucturer is... and the stylistic differences, which depends on the sculptors being used.
Also, Hasbro used the same sculptors that Toy Biz used and they probably still do.
