What a nice baseplate.
I always imagined it being a small island with a gold glow around it because it just had THAT much treasure in it.
Looking back at it I was probably retarded and it's just supposed to be. (my original interpretation is way cooler though)

This is probably my favorite Lego set of all time. It blew my childhood mind when I realized that it was part of a fortress and part of a shipwreck that the inhabitants of the island had cannibalized together. Many piratical adventures ended with a celebration on that beach. I still have all the pieces, and even though I probably have 30+ baseplates, this one's still my favorite.

Yeah, keyword is late 90s and early 00s. Those years had little to do with pirates. Maybe castle because some people didn't like the last wave of those, but those were not really to blame. It was probably the strange stuff they did during those years.

Actually smaller bricks is better for detail and doing your own mocs with related theme. Longer to build and enjoy that process, and learn better techniques. That's not the issue with the 2015 sets. The issue is they just didn't do as much of it as they could have for 2015. It was just a slap together with the ship being too similar.

Yeah it had some pretty fun alt-builds on the box too.
Fun fact: the hardcore og dark gray moat baseplate is actually a recolour of an idyllic Paradisa sets poolside baseplate.

Anyway, I am trying to re-create the rabbit from >>6773100 but I am very bad and new at MOCing so I'd welcome any ideas (I know red looks ugly, but I don't feel like changing the colors until i'm happy with the built.

I already decided that instead of recreating his odd angled pose, it'd be easier to give him articulation and built him straight up.

The legs are definately from an old Alpha Team set. The torso from a polybag that came with the old trike body.
If quickly browse through the minifigs of Alpha Team, and than the Trike body piece entry and then click on 'featured in sets' on the right you should be able to find them. The torso looks a lot like the late 90's policejackets, but is actually a different print and not a heresy.

Modulars are expensive as fuck. Just one or two of them are crappy by themselves as a display. You need to the other ones as well as hundreds to thousands of dollars of city and creative sets to make it somewhat of a city. Also you can't even get half the modular sets without spending a fortune to a reseller. They pretty much just collect dust because theres no way you are going to take it a part and use the pieces elsewhere.

Why is everyone shocked that I only buy from the Lego store? I mean I'll buy from target and walmart too, but as you know the selection is limited. I'm always a bit sketched out one of those sets has been opened from the box stores.

Anyway, like I said, I'm loyal to Lego. I don't like resellers. I don't like people taking parts out of the sealed lego bags and calling them new. If the boxed set is new and sealed, that's one thing, but again... why should I spend 50%+ mark up on a retired set that doesn't support Lego and I have to deal with some third party hoping I don't get scammed? Let the past builds die. Bring on new builds but if they continue to bring back older themes with modern builds, that would be preferred. Resellers and people who buy from brick link could be the reason why Lego is hurting to be honest. Maybe if people bought the sets to enjoy for themselves and bought directly from Lego, Lego would be more willing to expand the parts they sell in pick a brick. I personally want people who hoard the sets only to invest, to lose money. Need the prices to come down. Less things continuously going out of stock because of adults too lazy get jobs.

I disagree.

Many bricklink sellers are offering a service Lego doesn't want to offer because it's not profitable. The closest they can offer is pickabrick which is usually overpriced and rather small in selection when compared to Bricklink. Lego still makes profit from every brick that is sold to someone that sorts and individually sells them.

Lego has not been struggling financially by any means over the past decade. It is the most valuable and profitable toy brand in existence. They still won't create services that run without a certain profit margin.

If not for Bricklink, I would not be able to create half the designs I do today. Bricklink is the greatest service to ever be offered to the Lego hobbyist world.

Lots of retired sets can be picked up for their retail cost today. Very few go past 10-20% now since so many people are buying these sets to keep as an investment. The market has corrected itself and very few sets are going to boom in price in the future. Lego also has a track record of rereleasing or recreating the very most sought after sets - Taj Mahal, Millennium Falcon, the old Legends line. They're in control of what is available to purchase.

Truth be told, I don't think pirates is very popular theme except for the ships.

The last pirates line only had two ships. Imperial Flagship and Brickbeard's Bounty. Both of which sold quite well.

I just wish Brickbeard's Bounty didn't have all of those cartoon skulls on it. It looks like the sails are from their juniors line.

I'm hoping there will be another Pirates of the Caribbean that features a full size ship. Silent Mary is a very neat set but the eroded hull and lack of sails don't really interest me.

Im hoping for a switch 2.0 or some such that is a better battery or some such. I am assuming that Nintendo will go the DS/Gameboy iteration route with this system. No harm in doing so since Pokemon has made the transition to it.

I even own 2 3DS-es. All because im a professional pokemon breeder (as lame as it sounds). I was breeding pokes from the days of Gold.

Howeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever.
I...kind of...don't want to spend that fucking amount of money for Pokemon game - im not interested in other titles.
Back in NDS era it had Castlevania series, Osu! series and tons of cool games. 3DS was lamer but still had some neat games.

Switch sucks. I never was a fan of mario and zelda. But it breaks my heart that this time the Pokemon game will be so very expensive (console price + game price). Im afraid if i will pass it.

Im buying it only if it will be having some very amazing features and multiplayer stuff.
If they will go lazy and just slap another title to the same gimmick and game, i wont give a single this time.

I don't know where would be the best visual congreagate, but you should see the pretty large selection of third party releases that are coming out/have come out for the switch. Some fit the "mobile tablet" model the switch offers more so than their original pc release. Depends on your preferences of course.

When I look at the exposed holes (and the hinges), I see potential.
Like if you got the right sized plate and a couple of technic beams and put them together, then hinged the building around into an L shape, whack a couple of pins in, and voilà extended floor space.

You can't really complain when you get 878 pieces, many of which are large, and 10 new figures in a $100 licensed set. The hall looks surprisingly good, I love all the windows.

I'd pay an extra $10 or so to get those walls with printed brick work. Stickers, especially ones that are placed in large areas with no defining edges don't look very good.
