>>6779970I don't think that's quite fair. Certainly with the collectable gimmicks, there's an attempt by the toy companies to suck people in. You buy the belt and a couple of accessories, then the show introduces new gadgets and more collectables and some people feel like they "need to complete the set". Then it ends, the new show rolls around and seems more exciting/has even cooler toys and a lot of people wind up selling the older stuff to get money for the new season.
I don't think that's so much the case with the Figuarts though, except when it comes to renewal/updated versions of the characters that just make the older figures look shit in comparison, but that's the same for almost every toy line.
Personally, I don't buy stuff if I haven't seen what it's from. I do own some of the showa Kamen Riders, despite never haven watched most of the shows, but I am at least familiar with them from movies and cameo appearances in later shows. I bought the Atsuko Nendo because I thought it was cute, but did at least watch the ova's first. I don't have much interest in watching the entire show, but I wouldn't want something I'm completely unfamiliar with or might end up hating.
