>>6805624I don't think anyone connectected to that has fond memories unless it was their only part or they were in so much costume nobody knew who they were. The cartoon team excluded, since they got two entire series out of it. Hell, Droids was actually pretty good too.
Its not really what Disney will do, its what JJ will do. Disney doesn't have any hovering executive telling them to do anything, which is why JJ fucked up Lucas's script on a whim.
In case you didn't know that part, Poe was supposed to die and its the only reason the character existed. Poe manages to turn Finn while in captivity over time as he resists mind control by promising him a better life, but dies in the escape. Finn's motivation for the first half of Force Awakens is solely to complete Poe's last mission for him as thanks, and once he does Finn sticks around. His character arc for movie #2 and 3 is slowly becoming more and more of a hero by rising through the ranks until by the third movie he's become a squadron leader and elite agent like Poe was. Also, he wasn't supposed to deliver some map that makes no sense, he was literally supposed to just deliver Luke's location.
But when Poe's actor met JJ he lamented that he dies in every movie, and JJ thought about it then decided to make Poe into a super badass James Bond type instead. This leaves Finn with no character arc other than overcoming being afraid, and no explanation of why a Stormtrooper brainwashed his whole life and who was literally just promoted into a frontline combat role suddenly acts like an ordinary person and is a complete coward about it.
Cue Ryan, who just wants to subvert expectation. Now James Bond Poe is highly incompetent and fucks everything he tries up. Finn, with no character arc and a fanbase joking about homolust, instead gets a pointless side mission straight out of the EU (literally, exact same story happened in a Rogue Squadron novel) and a quick hetero love interest out of nowhere.
