a ton of G2 characters had no appeal to kids
I know, I was a kid then
If you rule out A) previous characters and B) characters that depend entirely on a gimmick that isnt being reproduced (like color changers) then G2 only had a small handful.
other than the mini cars and mini jets, everything else was gimmick
Victory, masterforce, and zone?
We got masterforce stuff. Overlord just came out.
Victory I'll give you, but I still think we'll get a starsaber before 2019. Or maybe with the new generations line being "cybertron" themed we'll get a lot of the stranger designs from victory and zone
As for beast wars
We got several in generations
We're getting optimus primal
Honestly, Armada's new characters (who were usually named after old characters, but were pretty much all new) were pretty good, and a sure sign that kids will buy new stuff
but do you know what all of those had that the current generations line doesn't?
Media to consume that promotes the figures while you can buy it.
Prime Wars trilogy is catching up, but it'll finish right around the time the line dies.
Transformers Animated introduced Bulkhead, and he caught on and went into Prime.
Prime introduced Knockout, Airachnid, Predaking (as a distinct character)
RID (and the comics) Introduced windblade. It also gave us strongarm, and a slew of new decepticons.
Brand new characters are almost always the staple of the main transformers line
Generations is a sideline, like the movie line
