There's a lot of different materials to consider when making a plush. If you've never done it before I'd recommend starting with something like fleece because it's a good material that isn't very expensive. It's also pretty soft and makes an overall nice plush feel.
Most commissioned plush will use minky but minky is expensive at around $14~17 a yard. (and cannot be bought in places like Joanns, they have cheap knock off variants of it that rips apart)
But the most important part of making a plush is a pattern. Do you know how to make patterns? Because if you don't you're going to have a bad time.
