Zoids were always about being motorized. They were 1000-5000 yen in the 80s.

Why do the newer designs never have visible cockpits, it was such a distinct feature of the classic Zoids. With these I could easily mistake some of them for Transformers.

Did these guys have any sort of fiction to go with them in Japan?

I loved the drill ones as a kid. This series was long gone by the time i was the age to play with them but I snagged a few via second hand stores and garage sales.

I like the concept of open-air zoids but the ones in the show have tons of room to fit a cockpit, so it's kind of stupid. Unless they're some kind of hijacking device used by the riders, then i'll take it back

they never do. They have a partnership with hasbro who handle the western releases, zoids were always released under hasbro in the west just like transformers.

Awful example, the original Pokémon releases were also handled by Hasbro, even the TCG. Jakks later got the Western master license and then finally Tomy has handled releases here on their own, until they’re replaced by Wicked Cool Toys.

The ZA's are great. Expect slightly lesser plastic quality than something from Bandai or Goodsmile, but otherwise they're solid action figures and the best poseable option for Zoids.

HMM kits are incredible to look at; the detail is amazing and they're large and impressive. But god damn it are they hard to actually play with. My experience is that they're fragile and unwieldy unless you at least partially glue them together.

Hopefully that means it's a possibility they're keeping in-mind. I doubt they will, but when/if they bring the new line here I would love to see them also reissue some of the old models as well. I had several of them back in the day, but stupidly got rid of them and a bunch of my other childhood stuff (I went through one of those "I'm too old for this shit" phases... haaard), and I can't imagine what some of those things are going for these days.

I'm a tad late to the party, but are the Kotobukiya models worth looking into? They seem a tad overpriced for what you get, and there are a couple that I'd love to have, but I don't think they'd make in this kind of a line.

They are kinda expensive, but I would say they're pretty damn worthwhile. HMMs are complex kits with tons of tiny little parts--for some reference, my HMM Iguan ended up being the size of a HG gundam, but came in a MG sized box. The color separation is excellent, and there is a lot of nice mechanical detailing that you can pick out with paint or panel lining. Really nice kits overall, even if Koto does lag a bit behind Bandai in parts fit and plastic quality. I highly recommend you at least try out one.

And don't buy them from BBTS, shit is a ripoff. Buy from Amazon instead. Normally I would recommend the usual Japanese webshops, but beware, HMM boxes can get ludicrously big so you might end up paying a mint in shipping. Best to stick with Amazon for relatively low prices + shipping you can see beforehand.

Out of curiosity, where'd you get it? I've seen some "unopened" sets on Ebay, but I'm not sure how trustworthy some of the listings are.

Really hoping that when Hasbro inevitably brings over the new show's line they also put out some reissues of the older models. There's at least a good handful of them I'd buy. Really regret getting rid of the ones I had as a kid.

I'm excited about this because the premise seems to be something taking place early on in the zoids timeline/the new timeline before cockpits were developed and humans started experimenting on and creating new zoids, so most of the zoids are exactly what the title implies, wild.

Related note, the color scheme and design of the beast mode for this TF here reminded me of zoids. desu most of the beastformers from TR gave me a zoid feel.

IIRC Zoids doesn't really have a set timeline with one series happening after the other, they're all sort of their own self contained versions of the setting with just a basic similar original setting of ancient people and zoids being metal animals they made into mechs.

And also the original "Wild" zoids were just metal based lifeforms with cores that acted as a brain. They didn't have like hydraulics and motors and stuff like these clearly do, they just looked like metal animals and dinosaurs. Humans hunted them down for their cores and then built mecha bodies around the core to use as vehicles. I don't have them on hand at the moment but there is old pictures and data stuff showing what the original zoids were like before humans started hunting them for their cores.

Lolno, the version of Sturm Tyrann that comes with the Fuhrer armor a kotoshop exclusive, you're looking at 200 bones minimum if you can even find it and the normal Tyrann's price with shipping for it's big ass box is basically the same cost as a Fuhrer with mark-up on amazon.

Not even what I'm talking about. The fuhrer white armor swap for tyrann isn't exclusive. On HLJ you could get it for 137 or so. It's sold out on hlj now though but it's available on other sites still. So yes, the thing I was talking about wouldn't be as expensive.

Ah I got confused because you're a retard who can't word shit well or use the right name for things. Either way with the shipping on the ridiculously huge boxes for Sturm Tyrann you'd still end up paying more than for just a marked up Berserk Fuhrer. On top of that since the Sturm CAS still uses armor parts from Fuhrer which would be red on Tyrann you'd end up with an ugly half and half colored hodgepodge.
