They had a similar thing for Treasure Planet but I'm not sure what the completed map does. Google is telling me there was a version with B.E.N., I think in Thailand.

I worked over a decade in product development for one of the agencies that designed and manufactured Happy Meal toys globally. These collect-them-all executions stopped around the time the Super Size Me film was released. McDonald's marketing made it a policy to avoid advertising their toys as collectible.

Totally correct. My team executed that program as well as the TMNT skate park and Ice Age iceberg ship. The difference in the more recent ones was McD did not advertise it as collectible.

True. But after Super Size Me (and Food, Inc. etc) McD had to scale down on advertising to kids. Collect all 8 toys to build a mega toy means buying your kid a Happy Meal at least twice a week.

My favorite was the Jungle Book 2 ones. Came with buildable playsets that could combine and a figure in each set. And oh no you got the same toy twice? Well guess what combine those bad boys together into one mega version of the toy.

Burger King had a Chicken Run set that combined into a plane, which is really cool because that's pretty much the plot of the movie. I wanted to complete this so bad, but I was forever missing the tail piece.

There was more track pieces but I can't find any pictures of the completed set. IIRC you got a car and a bit of track per happy meal, think there was at least two more cars than pictured.

Get a Lego set and each one had instructions to build a combo model with several others, and a combo model with all 8
Now all you get is regular shit toys or accessories with lego-like appearances.
Oh, and there was the Bionicle Matoran toys which were the best toys and you can't prove me wrong. They could also combine into a big guy

Man, I miss this era. This is when Happy Meal toys were basically good, cheap alternatives to actual action figures for movies. The Monsters Inc line in particular actually WAS better than the officially released figures.

it kind of sort of half assed shined a light through a transparent pic of the ship and you where suposed to be able to project that on the wall. Kind of a shitty light though so it really didn't do anything, but it was the closest we got to getting the prop map from the movie. Man I miss having that thing.

I am honestly surprised no one ever came up with something more accurate to put on etsy or shapeways. I am thinking like a fancy rubiks cube, but a static ball would be acceptable.

I really liked the Narnia figures for some reason, even though the movie was meh and the figures are pretty low quality. Weird, this is bringing back memories of like 7th or 8th grade I had forgotten about. I probably still have them somewhere.

My Dad literally had to call up random McDonalds to find some of the pieces. I think the hat and his belt (it's a wristwatch that makes noises) were practically impossible to get for some reason. I don't have a use for it, but it seems criminal to loose something my Dad put in work to get.

Each part does some neat trick. The head-torso is a sparkler thing, the right arm extends and grabs, the left is tiny water gun, one of his legs is like a mangnifying glass, and the other makes clicking noises. The hat just spins.

I have all of these, but we never had Marvin and the trenchcoat alien(s). I mean they weren't in the promotion at all here, not even on the little papers that come with the toys.
Same thing happened when the Pokemon Sun/Moon toys came last year. No Pikipek and no Roton in any promotion material. No toys either, yet they were part of that set. Weird.

Same with my Mom. I think it was nostalgia. She'd been a big fan of the Inspector Gadget cartoon that ran when she was a kid.
My brother took the poor Inspector in the bath with him and he got waterlogged to the extent that a bunch of his parts either ceased to work or didn't work as well. I tried to play doctor and fix him up.
My Mom didn't have the heart to tell my naive 7-year-old ass that sticking him under a blanket and pretending to take his vitals with my doctor kit was...not going to be too effective.

FUUUUUUUUCK. Fucking kill me I will never be as happy as I was when I was a kid and played with all of these toys, I don't even remember if I completed most of them but I'm feeling extremely overwhelmed with nostalgic feelings that are making me want to kill myself.
