Mega Construx (formerly Mega Bloks) announced Faker, Evil-Lynn and Man at Arms to be added to their lineup of MOTU minifigures.

In case you aren’t familiar; Mega Construx’ minifigs are highly articulated modular miniature action figures that retail for about $5 each and can usually be found at local retailers such as Walmart.

So far the released MOTU line up consists of He-Man, Skeletor, Teela and Beast Man

They also released a set of heads just to swap out the heads on your figures and give them the 20XX head sculpts.

Other examples of them hiding 20XX in the line are extra items such as heads, armors, and swords released with various characters so you can make 20XX versions. For example, if you want 20XX Battle Cat, you have to buy the regular Battle Cat, then buy the new Battle Lion figure, and then swap out Battle Cat's armor with Battle Lion's.

I actually already had a Skeletor, but wanted another for all the extra bits, the different feet, and the fact that my previous one had some very minor paint wear, since I bought it used ages ago. Same thing with my He-Man, I own one, but I got him used and he was missing his shield and axe and had mild paint wear. I might sell my old ones now and use these ones for display.

Been waiting awhile to get Anti-Eternia He-Man, and figured I should before his price climbs too high.

Also I bought a Castle Grayskull over a year ago with my tax returns. It's a really great play set, but damn near impossible to display because of it's massive size. I just pack it away and pull it out whenever I want to fiddle with it.

Depending on what figures you have, they fetch quite a bit individually. Some characters though haven't seen such price inflations, primarily because they're lesser known or literal whos. Lower end characters fetch in the $30-40 carded, and sometimes though rarely less than that. While more well known characters can command anywhere between $60-200 depending on who you have. There's also some characters who were never re-issued or never re-issued in their original colors, such as the Sorceress, who got re-released in a white outfit, and then they waited until now to give us her figure again, this time improving her for the filmation version.>>6821257

Her first MOTUC figure easily goes for over $100. Beastman also sells around that same price for similar reasons.

Now that filmation Teela was revealed to be a divisive dud, I kind of wonder if that will boost the Ultimate's price. Especially now that people will realize that we'll never get another shot at a "definitive" Teela before the line completely ends.

They really dropped the ball on the new Teela. I've seen people say that they actually like the Talon Fighter version better than the new one, and most everyone agrees that the Ultimate Teela/Original Teela is the best version.

There's also seems to be tons of QC problems with the Filmation accurate line, primarily with paint, for some reason. It seems like every figure has some kinda sloppy paint issue.

I know exactly where you got this from. Scott Neitlich said it, which led to an extensive amount of back and forth between him and other people, including people at Mattel.

This is the official answer

I'm almost entirely convinced that Neitlich got confused by Mattel selling the rights to the ANIMATED SERIES off in the 90s, which is why they had to deal with Classic Media and then Dreamworks to be able to produce Filmation-originated characters.

But yeah, if Mattel were lying about owning the rights it would be weird that they were the ones being sued by Don Glut in 2014. If they were just a licensee now that lawsuit would have been redirected to the current trademark owner.

I have honestly been tempted to fix my PD Teela up and get the best Teela possible. I'm planning on popping off her overlays and shaving them down internally with a dremel, then trimming the sides to make them more form-fitting. Then I'll repaint the head or just use the older Classics one. It would be way the fuck closer to what I want than Filmation Teela. I just need to figure out the best way to fuse together the overlay so that it would not pop apart. Maybe MEK would melt it enough, not sure how that stuff reacts to rubber though.

I think part of it is, that Super7 has barely even begun to do their MOTUC figures. They've only gotten through issuing the Ultimates figures, which they did almost everything right, with the one fuck up being that they promised the packaging would be resealable, which it wasn't.

Their other problem is that every single Filmation figure they've put out has had paint issues it seems, which has turned me off from picking them up, even when a figure looks good. I also think they're being too slavish to the animation aesthetic and need to put some more details into the figures sculpts.

Their recent wave of regular Classics figures though has been a success, outside of the Filmation stuff. They did those right and they maybe could pick things up if they stuck to doing Ultimates and doing 20XX figures, since they've barely touched those, and it would give an excuse to release more versions of classic characters that have already been done before, which is kinda what they're doing with the Filmation line.

It never happens. he fails to monitor or regulate the factories and lets them do as they please,and for all we know they aren't actually changing factories when he can just say he does and that satisfies the fans.

Forget reissues of 80s toys, he thinks those are "boring" yet pushes ReAction literally no one asked for, some promised 80s type Filmation stuff he's been promising for a long time now, MUSCLE stuff that no one really needed and honestly I can only assume this shit flies because people buying these are the same morons that sucked Mattel off. The ones that turned on Toyguru when, after Matty shut down, he let fly with how terrible Matty was run. They HATED the truth coming out.

The prices alone on MOTUC can fuck off, I'll stick with the 80s toys.

That last year of MattyCollector was especially bad. Good lord, there were some really shoddy decisions being made in regards to paint. The CG Evil-Lyn was so bad that it may as well have been part of the DC Multiverse line. And the level of mold flash was getting out of hand for several releases, which I never really saw reported on by reviewers for some reason.

When an injection mold has been used many times it gets ever so slightly expanded from the heat of the plastic. This sometimes makes the molds not close tight and plastic to overflow out between the halves of the mold. That overflow is called "flash". It's usually very thin and easy to clean off, but can distort the sculpt and obviously fucks up the paint job (if any)

The 2002 cartoon only really failed because it lacked the same sort of syndication market that the original benefited from. Cartoon network barely played it after the first season. And if you missed an episode, good luck, they rarely did re-runs. The original series was in syndication and played multiple times a day, every day of the week, a kid couldn't help but see it. The only shows CN plays like that are shows they have a greater stake in with shit toy lines like Teen Titans Go!

The other factor in it's demise was that both children and adults were buying the line. I was young teenager when the 2002 series came out and I often found myself digging through bins and through several toy racks just to find characters outside of He-Man or Skeletor. And then I'd see the other characters at comic shops being scalped for twice the price, sometimes more. I even had other friends who liked the series and wanted to get into it, but again, finding other figures was hard, primarily because of all the adult collectors snapping up everything. But that's not to say that I didn't have other characters, but I would have bought way more had I been able to better locate them.

They themselves didn't have any action cartoons to push over what WB was running on their channel, and until that happened, they were ok with running just about everything. As long as it had good ratings.

The fact that they ran HB cartoons so much is because it was cheap/free for them to run and they had a lot of time slots to fill up.

Toonami was their biggest money maker at the time. They tried to fill it with content that fit into that programming and got ratings that met a higher standard. A lot of shit did not work out, hence them constantly ditching shows left and right, and they likely only kept He-Man as long as they did because of contractual obligations.

By 2000 CN had enough original content to branch off their HB reruns into their own channel wit boomerang. Early 2000s was also the height of the anime boom, with Toonami constantly getting new aquisitions. MOTU got screwed over for the same reason most of those Toonami shows that weren't Dragon ball got screwed over; CN didn't outright own them so they put them in low priority compared to their own brand of original cartoons. Same reason most actionc artoons get screwed over now, really.

I just don't understand how the problem wasn't recognized and corrected early on. Shows like He-Man weren't affected by CN later shitty policy, because CN really didn't have their own action cartoons until Ben 10 really (IGPX got a pilot first but regular series didn't air until later), and that's when they started fucking over any and all other action cartoons that weren't CN's own (see original Teen Titans and other WB cartoons like the DC block).

So He-Man was running against other action cartoons which were running on Toonami and it was judged by other licensed stuff that was running on Toonami.
It did not get fucked over by Dragonball Z, it was simply because that was what CN thought all other shows should be getting their ratings at. Obviously, that was impossible, hence the constant changing line up and keeping those that did have higher ratings. He Man just did not get the ratings it should have gotten when compared to other popular Toonami series.

BTW, CN didn't own Dragonball Z. It was licensed just like most everything else running there.
If you want to put any blame on who fucked shit up later, it was Bandai paying to put their shows on CN, but i think that happened later, by which point Mattel was pulling the plug on He Man.

Companies banking on nostalgia, but the runs of these toys are not only expensive to begin with, but also extremely limited (which means they will only be available at rape prices in the aftermarket)

Unless you are a big He-Man fan, most collectors will be unwilling to shell out $90 for a Skeletor figure ( as awesome as he looks )

I can see them possibly maybe cancelling wave 2 of Collector's Choice, but definitely not Club Grayskull. CC probably got 2/3 or less of the subs CG got, there just wasn't any star power in that entire fucking wave. The fact that 1/2 of the CC wave aesthetically looks like it belongs in CG instead due to cartoonish sculpts and color palettes probably turned off A LOT of people. I think this would have been the rare occasion where even a shitty He-Man/Skeletor variant could have been a better alternative to some of the choices. Or, gee, I dunno, maybe some more NA content which seems to be the only surefire design winners left in MOTU. But when motherfucking Karg and an obscure concept character like Wraptrap are your lead designs, you've got some major problems on your hands.

This does come off as intentional on Super7's part, that they want the whole thing to go down in flames. They're at the helm, without restraint, partnering with 4H, and could be making a dream line with no executive meddling, but they're pushing out F-list characters instead of rejuvenating the line. They should be focusing in on filling holes for high demand characters (i.e. 200X Teela/Skeletor/He-Man, the remaining NA toy roster), not pawing through the series bible and concept drawings and old Filmation episodes for literal who's. The only one that feels like it scratched an itch was Karg, and that character is ass and completely uninteresting to 99% of MOTU fans.

It's a rough line for latecomers to get into, unfortunately. And ultimately that hurts everyone because it prevents new blood from really getting into the game and keeping the line alive and profitable. Anyway, my MOTU childhood was all my brothers hand-me-downs, and he mostly had the villains. I also love the mini comic design aesthetics.

Budgeting wise, I’m trying for $200 a month, or 2-3 figures, for the next 5 months, and I should be fine. A crew of10-15 is all I need. Only a few good guys, again mostly one I had as a kid.

Finally jumped on because it’s a now-or-never situation. I’m way younger than the original fanbase, and I think at this point most of those fans are finishing up on from action figures and the next step of this franchise will be expensive statues, like sideshow’s stuff. Even if they make toys again, I doubt they’ll cover the variety of MOTUC

I picked up Zorn on a whim, having never seen the show. But I liked his KO He-Man toy aesthetics. He'd fit right in with a vintage MOTU toy collection.

For a retro figure, he's pretty decent. No surprises on the articulation. His hip joints seem kind of fragile. His sword also is a little too long and made of a hard plastic that could easily break if he took a shelf dive. Still, there's this simplistic undeniable charm to him that most modern figures don't have. I've got him on my desk and I'm frequently putting him in goofy poses with his limited 6 points of articulation.

You're right. The next logical point of focus for an articulated MOTU line outside of Classics will be related to the upcoming dumpster fire movie. And those will just be movie designs with typical shit articulation and quality, like Mattel's DCEU figures. Classics is pretty much "it" for at least the next decade, especially if 80s nostalgia exhaustion starts to set in, so getting into them now when they're only double/triple MSRP isn't a bad idea for the core crews or rarities. It's almost a given that Fisto and Shadow Weaver will be $300+ figures before long, for example.

From what I remember, we're getting 2 CG's and one CC, right? And assuming the same bullshit of S7 not having access to Mattel molds due to moving factories still applies to Power Con releases, it lowers the pool of available resources for them to even draw from. Primarily because PC is not historically a place for exclusives to show off brand new sculpts and they'd be pissing off a lot of people if highly sought after Filmation characters were released as con exclusives. So it seems like they're between a rock and a hard place.

Who knows. They could also do a Prince Adam pretty easily with one overlay, or Eternia palace guards on top of the MAA body. And nobody would really give too many shits about either of those being locked away behind an exclusive wall.

For the former: basically all of them are good and some are great. Callix stands out to me as the best truly 200X character/figure. King Grayskull and Battle Lion are musts. Lord Dactus is cool and is pretty cheap, plus he's versatile for displays in that he's monstrous. Zodak is great, especially if you can get the unmasked head that was included with Strobo. Battleground Evil-Lyn is my favorite release of her character to date, it's a super solid figure.

You could also 200X-ize some characters with the head pack (pic related). They look pretty freaking cool, honestly. I was lukewarm to the idea but they came out great, and that kind of turned the tide on me enjoying 200X.

I was never super crazy about Prahvus, Carnivus, Ceratus, Evil Seed, or Chooblah, because they just seemed more like generic modern fantasy creatures that you could find in any media rather than unique monsters. Queen Grayskull (a.k.a. Veena) and Snake Armor He-Man were things that I skipped so I have no real opinion, though they look nice. Then the ones that I think are good figures but have no big appeal would be Marzo, Battle Armor Hssss, Faceless One, and Dekker. Can't recall any others, probably missed one or two.

Prices really exploded the last 4 years, and went supernova in the last 2. You're asking if used objects are worth less? Well... yeah. Of course they are. There's not a whole lot of things that are immune to the effects of that market principle. As soon as you open figures you can expect a 20-40% loss in resale value compared to its in-package secondary market prices.

Nah, probably not. A few stand outs might, but you're looking at a handful of figures that will climb significantly in value due to sheer rarity. The rest will plateau, then drop once a new iteration of MOTU figures comes about with the same scope as Classics in a decade or two. It'll happen. In another 4 years, the 2002 show will be 20 years old and barely any of those would be considered worth holding on to. And logically the loose vintage line should be worth a lot, but they're mostly going for really cheap out of the package; same will happen to Classics.

You're going to be a good future dad though, because a childhood with MOTU is a good and imaginative childhood. You're just not going to be handing them a golden ticket of action figure wealth like you had hoped.

So now the last one is supposed to be a hybrid of sorts between CG and CC due to tooling costs. Which shouldn't be surprising, seeing as how they've been doing this low quality no-detail shit way too much in CC. Honestly the way this line is going they're tilting CC way the fuck too closely to CG aesthetics because it saves them loads of cash in production. Less sculpted details, less paint. It's pathetic. Granita, Hawke, and Dylamug look stupidly simplified.

I think S7 sees the writing on the wall and is going to focus on the most core characters while they can. Jitsu and Spikor are up there, no doubt. But when you only have maybe 1 wave left before it goes belly up, you're going to find a place in the regular line for Whiplash, Stratos, Ram Man, and the other missing Filmation higher-ups first.

You're on that slippery slope. I got DCUC vs MOTUV Merman because he looked cool. Then it was like "gotta get skelly". Then "maybe just some core villians". Then "Horde is ok too". Super7 is probably bowing out of Classics after the next reveals at SDCC, so "never" would be my answer. At least not while they hold the license. They have some tooling done, but they're looking at thousands of dollars more to finish just that stage.

Well... it's not. Classics stuck around with Mattel because Scott was competent in his job as a manager (which I feel people like myself are beginning to see nowadays despite the myriad obvious offenses throughout the line's history) that saw how to work the margins on a giant multinational corporation and how to drum up business from ever-skeptical consumers. It was basically a line run on Mattel's welfare and was also justified as the front end for an experimental online store.

When Scott left, the incoming managers didn't know how to work the angles with upper management and the funding suffered (thus the shoddy paint work and loss of fine detailing in the last few figures); and when mattycollector was marked for closure, it lost its primary justification for existence.

For Super7, Classics is something that is a losing bet right from the get-go. Their only guaranteed cash cow in Classics, the old existing Mattel molds, were fucked from age and overuse and fixing them essentially would end up costing them the same amount it takes to make a new one. They also have such low volume in potential sales that they will never be able to get good shipping rates from any carrier, which is a multifaceted nut kick from a business perspective. Anybody doing a simple analysis of the MOTU license that they hold would realize that Classics is dead weight and they'll only get their money's worth from the acquisition by pumping out their own brand of inexpensive stuff instead of pricier niche stuff like Classics.

I love Classics, and have an enormous collection that I want to see expand even more, but I won't blame Brian when he inevitably pulls the plug and just does ReAction and MUSCLE. You'd have to be stupid to blame him, what with the reality of where MOTU is as a property in the collective consciousness of the public, and consumers in particular.

It's a low-volume line built on a subscription model. Look at P-Bandai items and their valuation for a more accurate assessment of where you could expect the secondary market to naturally drive it, then multiply it by two because of the lack of interest that MOTU has as a property compared to Gundam or what have you.

Yes, you are correct. These will never be sold retail and are now only available for preorder from Super 7. Super 7 is apparently soon going to be releasing vintage style filmation accurate figures which are going to be available at retail. No word yet as to when and where thhese will be available.

It sucks but Mattel walked away from MOTUC and the collector market completely when the shut down their online store. So it this or nothing. I for one am glad to see Super7 try to keep the line alive, I'll order one and hope it sells well. I know it's a long shot but I'd still love to see the POG Dinosaurs one day.

If making Stridor means that they have access to Mattel molds again, then maybe. Flynn suggested that a proper Stridor helmet will maybe be coming out somehow, and I've seen people say packing it in with Fisto could be a good way to do it. But if they fag out and pack it in with Filmation Fisto, there will be LOTS of pissed off people.

Grew my collection from zero to seven in one weekend. 89 Heman and Icarus were my two most wanted, so I am extremely happy right now. Didn’t pay over 35 for anything in the pic and much less for some of them.

For Skeletor, get the Molarr/Skeletor two pack, it's like $30-35 everywhere and has everything you need for a perfect Skeletor EXCEPT for the head. To improve that one, get Demo Man, who is 100% required in any worthwhile MOTUC collection and comes with a god tier Alcala Skeletor head. Boom, perfect Skeletor for way less than the Ultimates current market value or the standard issue one, and you're getting an awesome Demo Man out of it.

A cobbled together cheap He-Man isn't so easy, and you would need to just pony up for a loose standard release one or the Ultimates version. The roundabout way to piece together a good He-Man and save some money (while picking up good figures) is to buy Oo-Lar and Goddess, as well as a cheap $12 headless Flying Fists He-Man off of ebay. Oo-Lar gives you the vintage head, Goddess gives you the shield, chest armor, and ax. You'd need to go to ebay for a cheap chinese power sword, which would be like $6 shipped. I would say it's not really worth it though, unless you plan on getting Oo-Lar and Goddess.

Hydron would be great if 1.) the knife sheath were functional, 2.) he had a second unmasked head, 3.) he didn't have a bullshit dumb weapon, and 4.) he didn't have such a bad case of the fat armor. I'M NOT GOING TO READ THE WHOLE THREAD BUT
What are your thoughts on the Live Action MOtU 2019 film which will start filming this summer for an octobre release-might move to december though. The film is made by Sony. There are also talks about a Thundercats movie and WB still wants to do that Dino Riders film. Street Sharks was foing to have an live action film but it got canned. It was going to be directed by Michael Bay and produced by WB. How will the toy line for this MotU film go? Will it get love like the JW:FK toy line from Mattel?

My expectations are so low for such movies, that they'll probably be exceeded. I'll have to go see the new MOTU movie just for fun.
As for the toy line, it probably won't get the same treatment that JW:FK got. JW made a billion dollars, and the next one is honestly on track to do the same. Its a proven money making property for now.
MOTU for the past couple decades has not been a success. So it remains to be seen exactly how far Mattel is willing to go when it comes to resurrecting this franchise.
This really comes off as one of those things where they have to do something with the license or lose it.
