I was thinking about this yesterday, considering how many Marvel movies use evil versions of the star hero's general powerset and look as the main villain. I get that it all becomes very cliche, but it makes sense, villains are hard to create as far as making them iconic and cool, but when you watch a show, or a movie, you generally think the hero is cool in some way. so just making a villain like the hero you already like is a guaranteed sell.
I wish we got more of the opposite, though, heroic villains of evil characters. When you do have a cool, iconic bad guy, you usually end up rooting for them.
